squares tourney [COMPLETE]

now that i am less busy again i thought that i would give tourneys another shot by retrying an idea that i wasn't able to follow through before.

[spoiler=details]OK so i will need 16 players (including myself). Each player will be assigned a position in a square (4x4 grid). I need each player to choose their own map and settings, any settings are allowed but no speed games and all games will have a 30 round limit so that the tournament doesn't last forever. random map settings will be: Random, unlimited, escalating, sunny, no trench, sequential, automatic.

Round 1
at the begining of round 1 the grid will look like this:

with each player in the tournament representing a different colour.

so say you are red in the top left corner in round 1 you will have 2 matches for a total of 6 CC games. Then in round 2 red would be playing in the two boxes that he/she has colour in as red won his first round match against brown but lost against orange. so in round 2 they will be playing for box 1 and box 5, in box 1 it will be a rematch of round 1 with orange and in box 5 there will be 3 3-player games on each players home map. If we were yellow at the top in round 1 we would have 3 matches and so 9 CC games. so for yellow in round 2 you would be playing for boxes 3 and 4. in box 3 there would again be a set of 3 3-player games and a re-match of round 1 with blue in box 4. Finally if you were white in the middle you would have 4 matches to begin with for a total of 12 CC games. so lets say we are purple in the third example you have won all of your first round matches and so have managed to keep box 7 with no competition and are trying to take control of boxes 3, 6, 8 and 11. so in box 3 you are playing in 3 3-player games, in box 6 you are playing in 4 4-player games one on each players settings, in box 8 you are playing 2 1v1 games on blue's setting and one on your own and finally in box 11 you are playing 4 4-player games. so at the beginning of round 2 the grid could look something like this: Image

so in this example in round 2 there would be 13 seperate boxes being fought over. if it is a corner box (boxes 1, 4, 13, 16) then it would end up being a best of 3 like in the first round. If you are fighting for control of a center box (boxes 6, 7, 10, 11) then you are either fighting 3, 2 or 1 other person and for each section of the square you own(the number of times your colour is in the box) that is how many games are on your map and settings and you will get points if there are more than 2 of you as specified below and if just 2 of you then the one who wins the most claims the square if there is a tie then one more game on the random settings above will be used. and the rest of the boxes are similar to the central ones but are either 3 or 2 players in them. Then after all games are over and each box has been claimed then the beggining of round 3 might look something like this:

and you go back to round 1 but with new potentially new squares to start from. and so on untill one person has claimed the whole of the board.[/spoiler]

[spoiler=example]Say we have a really simple model with only 4 players they will each start with one square each like this.

each player will have 2 matches against his neighbors so 6 CC games. each match will be a best of 3 one on your home map one on your oponents home map and one on the random map and settings above. say purple wins both of theirs and orange and red win theirs against blue then this is what the square will look like:

so purple will have a match against orange and red for their squares and orange and red will fight over blue's lost square. If purple win's both again and orange takes the last square then purple will have 2 matches against orange:

and if purple wins both they will win the tournament:

This looks really neat & makes me wish I liked 2, & 3 player games. ;)

Put me down as the 16th player & move me to the reserve list if enough other people sign up.

Random map, auto, sequential, no spoils, trench, fog.

I understand the concept, but is it fair? I'm trying to decide. How do you determine which square a player starts in? It seems like different squares will play a different tournament because they get more or less chances based on where they start.

this didn't seem to be an issue last time i attempted this idea and the players would be put into the grid via the use of random.org

I have no idea what is going in this tourney. you are either a genius or one of those guys who talks to themselves while crossing the street. Im in -- arms race, seq, esc, fog. I'm just going to play the games you send me, and leave it up to you to tell me if I win or not.
