Re: MLB 2013

When I went out on a limb and picked KC to make a playoff spot I took in to account a couple moves they made in the off season. James Shields, Wade Davis and Ervin Santana. Davis had a decent rookie year as a starter and was put in the bullpen his second year. Even thou he has been shelled most of the season his last 3 starts have been pretty good. Santana has been a average starter with potential to be a good one if he keeps the ball in the park. And James Shields is as good as it gets. Shields did not get any run support early in the season or his record would be a lot better. Guthrie has pitched well also. Their bullpen is solid. The question is whether the bats can come around. Butler, Hosmer and Gordon can hit. Can Moustakis, Perez improve? When will Cain come back from injury. And can the newly acquired Bonifacio turn it around and start getting on base to use his speed. Should be interesting the last couple of months.

KC gets past Verlander & takes two today.

My Rangers squander seven shutout innings from Holland
and the pen takes over in the 8th...
Cotts walks a batter after being ahead 1-2 in the count,
then surrenders a fucking homer with an 0-2 count.
ARGH!

There are so many people with better stats. Winning the triple crown is awesome, but it doesn't happen by itself, other people generally have to have a down year.

Anyway, the Cardinals have about 5 players better all by themselves, ho.

There is no one with better stats this year. Silly talk.

As of the game where he hit his 40th home run, Cabrera joined Babe Ruth and Jimmy Foxx as one of three players to have 40 hr, 120 rbi, and a .350 BA in 116 games. Pretty elite. I usually do not subscribe to those kind of single season obscure records, but when you have played 75%+ of the season and are still hitting like that, I would have to say he is putting together one of the best years of our generation. also, winning the triple crown does sort of happen by yourself. By that standard, anyone who wins any award just did it because someone else was having a down year. Chris Davis is only leading the league in HRs because all of the other power hitters are having a down year? Miggy is only hitting .350 because every other player is hitting so low? Doesn't quite make sense. It is even more impressive due to the pitching stats in recent years, since the dawn of PED busts. He is still holding himself well above the rest. IMO only Trout has a chance of beating him out for MVP, and chances are he will have the best batting line in recent history by the end of the year, maybe even historically. I still would not call him the best player of all time, that's just silly. But by the end of his career, if he dodges injuries and steroids, he could be a definite contender for top 10. Definitely if he keeps it up he will be the best 3B ever to play, and probably the best tiger of the last 60 years at least. But he has a long way to go. Right now, he is the best in baseball, if I were starting a team and got to pick any player in MLB, it would be him hands down.

In other news, the Braves rule the baseball world. That is all.

Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Ted Williams, Ken Griffey Jr., Barry Bonds pre roids, Willy Mays, many more, the list is pretty extensive. And that's only position players. There were some dominant pitchers over the last hundred something years too. Silly fanboy.

I find it a bit humorous that you say he's the best third basement considering that most other Braves fans blindly tote Chipper in that position even when they don't always know his stats. :D

When it comes to baseball, I try to be a realist. Chipper was a great one, has HoF numbers even with the injuries, and had a streak of years in his 30s that was astounding, but really Miggy is a beast. I would hazard that Chipper was probably more of an outspoken team leader than Miggy, but that only lands you in the hall when you're a yankee.

I was saying YOU were silly for talking about there being better players this year. I assumed you Cardinal comment was referring to this year. My bad, I misunderstood. You would be 100% correct to say overall he is not the best. Not even top 100 yet.

That Avatar brings Hank Aaron to mind and Baltimore used to have a 3rd baseman named Brooks Robinson that was a decent player too.

I like Miguel Cabrera in the batter's box, he's getting it done,
but it's too soon to call him the best all time.

Of all the players I have seen in my lifetime there is one player I would want if I started a team. Ricky Henderson. Him getting on base alone would unnerve a pitcher and make the rest of the lineup look good.

Looking at the NL Standings, the East & West are comfy
but the Central has nice 3-way rumble going.

In the AL... whot happened to the freakin' Angels?

Fell in love with a couple of aging stars who are past their prime and no starting pitching depth. Money well spent.

Well, he might be top 100... I'm not going to make a list, but I think if you're good enough to get a triple crown and you've been playing for more than 10 years, you're probably top 100.

What do you think about Jason Heyward's face? Are the Braves gonna beat the Cardinals tonight?

Always have to go with the braves. :)

I don't know. I kind of think Heyward's overrated. He has a lot of potential but the last couple years it doesn't seem like he's really living up to it.

Cards for sure!!

And I've felt the same about him since his rookie year. SOOOOO much hype and a slightly above average player, IMO. I'd take Simmons in a heartbeat though. He makes me drool.

I dont know if Simmons will ever be a great hitter. And frankly, I have been a Braves fan since '91, and Heyward is one of the most overrated players to have come through there. Atlanta has never known how to bring up hitting, most of them were just pure naturals like Jones and Jones. We should trade Heyward for a slew of great prospects and then find a way to ditch BJ. Horrible contract, that was.

I think Wainwright is going to beat the Braves tonight. He is way too good to bet against.

Yeah, but he threw 128 pitches. I'm not excited about that, but a good game by him for sure.
