I'm well aware of the Michael Irvin incident. First, I was at the game and cheered wildly when he got hurt (I would not have cheered wildly if I had known it was career-ending). Second, I'm well aware of the incident because the lazy national sports media reminds me of it every time the Eagles and Cowboys play (because, you know, god forbid they talk about how Philadelphia fans are outstanding fans or talk about similar or worse incidents in other cities).

You may want to google Michael Irvin's response to the Eagles fans' response. Or not... I can provide it for you:

Irvin later told talkshow host Jim Rome that he accepted Eagles fans cheering his injury because he'd been "killing them for 10 years".

Also, Cowboys fans are the scum of the earth and you should be ashamed of yourself.

Eagles fans also bombarded both ends of the field with ice balls,
but hey... most overzealous fans suck at all major sports events.

I've spent time in Philly and Manhattan and have always found
the people there to be great.... that goes for Texans too.

I doubt the majority of Eagle fans would actually wish harm
to any player on the field.

On the MLB front, I'd like to see the American League
with homefield for the World Series this time out.

Classy response from a classy Philly pan. Scum of the earth? Please enlighten me as to why that's the case.

(1) What is a "Philly pan?"
(2) You're from Milwaukee and you're a Cowboys fan.

That's pretty much all I need to say, no?

I acknowledge that there are Philadelphia fans who suck. My issue is that the entirety of the fan population or, at best, the majority of the fan population is painted by the national sports media (and by ignorant people like Mr. "I'm from Wisconsin, but I'm a Cowboys fan because I'm a front runner") as the hardest and worst sports fans. Incidents occur in all sports cities, including New York and Cleveland and San Francisco and Oakland. That's my problem and that's why I have a chip on my shoulder about stuff like that. The Michael Irvin issue was completely blown out of proportion. We cheered when he got hurt, not knowing the extent of his injury. We cheered when he went off the field as a sign of sportsmanship, like all fans cheer when an injured player leaves the field. We still didn't know the extent of the injury. As a group, Philadelphia fans had a ton of respect for Irvin, we just hated him because he killed us. But instead of that, we get "you cheered because Michael Irvin had a career-ending spinal injury." That's hardly an accurate statement.

For at least 2013, Howard is not going to hit well because of the knee issue. Even without the knee issue, I'm not sure how he would do.

I hated the Delmon Young signing. The point was to have another power hitter in the lineup who could also play outfield and I use the term "play outfield" loosely.

My biggest anger point right now is that Domonic Brown is still batting 5, 6, or 7 every night instead of 3 or 4. That needed to change three weeks ago. But god forbid Charlie Manuel does something his veteran players wouldn't like.

Did Philly not notice that Delmon Young was our DH most of the year? And that when he did play in the outfield, he sucked? It kind of surprises me that it wasn't so long ago when the Phillies were a very good team. What happened?

A lot of things. Once they got rid of Mike Arbuckle, they lost the scouting advantage they may have had. They mortgaged the future for Cliff Lee (twice) and Roy Halladay. They signed players to long term deals (e.g. Howard).

As a Tigers fan, I just care that Jhonny Peralta is on that list. Peralta is having a good year playing second for us, and we don't really have anyone to replace him, so if he's suspended this year, it would really hurt Detroit.

The rest of them, we'll see what happens.

Typo, but you knew that

And no, that does not say all you need to say. Is everyone required to root for their home team? My dad was a Cowboys fan and my Grandpa was too. But I get it, anybody who roots for the team with the most money is a bad guy right? Forget that I was born too late to properly enjoy the 90's dynasty and instead have suffered through the Quincy Carter years into the Tony Romo years but remain a bigger Cowboys fan than any other team in any other sport. Hating for the sake of hating is pretty lame man.

How did I not see this thread before?

Bottom line: no one can match up with the Cardinals. Bring it.

Puig is a beast. Imagine if he played for a team that didn't suck balls?

Also I told you we Dempster would suck nietzsche...

He is. He was in my fantasy team :(

I don't think Dodgers will end up sucking all season long, with Puig and Hanley charging the team, Crawford, Kemp and Gonzo can come back. Hanley is batting very well too, (he was also in my fantasy team :() even when he was batting for outs they were all strong line drives.

Have you heard how the bat sounds when Puig hits? it's different.

And I knew Dempsters was going to suck, that's why I traded him away with Machado and Gallardo in a packet for Kershaw.

Time to take another look at my preseason picks, and assess where I am:

Serbia wrote:AL East - Rays 4th in the East, 2 games over .500, 6 back of Boston. Still a glimmer of hope.
AL Central - Tigers 1st in the Central, 3.5 up on Cleveland. Keep it up!
AL West - Angels 3rd in the West, 8 games under .500, 9.5 behind Oakland. Laughable.

AL Wild Card - Blue Jays Last in the East, 6th in the WC race and 5 back of Texas. Doesn't look promising.
AL Wild Card - A's 1st in the West, 1 game up on Texas. Would be first for the WC too, so looking like a playoff team.

ALCS - Tigers over Jays

NL East - Nationals 2nd in the East, 1 game under .500, 7 behind Atlanta. Won't catch the Braves.
NL Central - Reds 2nd in the Central, 8 games over .500, 3 behind St. Louis. Definitely a race.
NL West - Giants 2nd in the West, 3 games over .500, 1.5 behind Arizona. Also a good race.

NL Wild Card - Braves 1st in the East, tied for 3rd best in the NL. Playoff team.
NL Wild Card - Pirates 3rd in the Central, but 2nd in the WC race, .5 game behind Cincinnati. San Fran 5 back in 3rd. Definitely possible.

NLCS - Nationals over Reds

WORLD SERIES - Tigers over Nationals

Just a correction to Serbia's notes, the Braves are the 4th best team in the NL. The top three are all in the NL Central.

I'm hoping the Cardinals send down Tyler Lyons to AAA again. He sucked it up last night and the Cardinals have lost his last 4 starts. There are just better options.

Also, who's gonna win the triple crown this year? Miggy or Chris Davis? Chris Davis is being a beast. With him and Machado, the Orioles look legit, IMO.

Also, I live in Kansas City, so I hear all the Royals stuff and they all realize that the Tigers are about 13459 times better than the Royals. I don't see how the Tigers don't win the division. The only way they lose is injuries.
