Elite Conquer Rome dubs tourney Winners: josko.ri and Rodion

Post by g8keepr »

Several people (myself included) think that CR is one of best maps for dubs - a map that honors strategy over dice/drop.

So I thought it would be nice to bring the best CR dub teams together (again) and find out which team is the best (in this tourney; last time: ChrisPond / g8keepr http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=710&t=178490). =D>

All rounds will be a best of 3 (finals maybe a best of 5 or 7 - if the teams in the finals agree to such a change); there will be no playoff game for the 3rd place.

Format/requirements:
- 8 double teams - no entry as individuals
- combined score of the teams: > 4.000 points at the time of signing up
- winning ratio on CR teamgames > 50%
- elimination with each round being played as best of 3 (to make it a question of gameplay)
- all games are sent out at once: freemiums can join, but have to keep 3 slots open
- whichever team wins at least 2 of the 3 games will advance to the next round
- teams will be ranked by something - will decide about the criteria after looking at the participating teams
- in the event that a team needs to replace a player, this will be allowed once. The replacing player must keep the team at or above the minimum average team score.
- finally: I can deny or allow entrance to particular teams at my own opinion about the ability of the team to be a "elite dub team on CR". ;)

Game settings:
- all games are on Conquer Rome: 3 double games at once
- settings: auto, seq, chained, no spoils, foggy, no trench, no round limit

The 12 hour fog rule will be enforced. What is it? After the game has been initialized, the team going first has to wait 12 hours before taking the turn. If the other team informs that it had a look at the map/got a snapshot, the team could start earlier of course. So give your opponent a chance to have a look at the map before starting. Breaking the 12 hour rule will turn the game into a loss regardless the outcome of the game; so think twice before hit "begin turn"!

Players will have 48 hours to join games once invitations are sent. If a member of the team does not join within 48 hours, the game will be a loss for the team.

Please sign up with a name for your team, the players of the team, the number of your combined points and the winning ratio of your team on CR dubs (both players had to be in the games - easy task using "maprank"). Freemiums have to keep 3 slots open. If more than 8 teams sign in, I will decide upon the 8 teams for the tourney (or wait for 16 teams).

Let me know if there are any questions or if I missed something.

Looks like there may no longer be room... but I would love to play on my favorite map with Hook2 if there is room!!!

1930+2590=4520
Hook2 - 33/42 I think... so 78.5%
swimmerdude99 - 39/59... so 66.1%
team average is 72.3% win

ACE in Rome.

Team name: Maker & Sun
Players: Kabanellas + hopalong
Combined points: 5263
winning ratio of your team on CR dubs: NA - we have never played together before ... have never met, actually ... it's a pre-arranged marriage, i think

It seems you will need extend it to 16 teams. However, I still think the best of 3 is too low game count in favor of luck against skill. Maybe you can make teams playing 2 games at a time, and the first team who win both games advances (i.e. 2-0 3-1 4-2...). If set ends 1-1 then send another 2 games until someone wins 2-0. For finals it can even be repeated until someone gets a margin of 4 to be declared winner. That would make tourney a little longer but will increase skill factor over luck factor. Whoever lose by margin of 2 cannot complain that he was screwed by bad luck.

this is good , just maybe add a tie breaker in case of 3-3

Josko, thx for the input. I will consider your suggestion if I run it again. At the moment and expanding the tourney to 16 teams (assuming the quality of teams continues to be that great) I prefer to go with a best of 3 for the first two rounds.

For SF and F I suggest to switch to the modus described by Josko and edited by Silver. Only change to shorten the time: 4 games at once and game numbers determine the result. So it is possible that we see a 2-0 ending in a 2-2; but the team that has lead 2-0 wins the round. As all of us looking for good competition I assume everyone is fine with this. 2-2 would give 3 more games at once - the 7th as a tie breaker.

Would like to hear some feedback - the amount of games would only be a problem for one team so far, but we will handle that I guess.
