Voted for the medium sized map add that offers the most flexibility, you can run but not too far and you can fight but not while the whole map to quickly, love the idea of fantasy map

Just wondering when we're talking fantasy, is it to be invented (trying something original) or based on exisiting literature or idea - i.e. Cthulu mythos, or film theme like Brazil or bladerunner/aliens etc ??

Can't it be a map too large for being in the medium category but too small for being in the large, somewhere around 66 regions or so?

I play a lot of Random map games, and when I get ambushed with some nightmarish piece of shit like Hive or Antarctica or FN Americas, it really makes me want to just hit the forfeit button. Except there isn't a forfeit button, and you have to play the damn nightmare out to the bitter end, deploying on 28 million different terts until you have carpal tunnel syndrome, hiring a secretary to keep track of your terts, and generally feeling like it's work and not play.

Never heard it described that way, but you're right on with that analysis!!!

go big maps! I like the added complexity and different types of game play that can be done on big maps.

Well, I had already decided to change my vote from small, but the arguments for large have won me over. As I look at it now, I see medium and large in a dead heat.

No one told me to come here. I clicked the link on the homepage.

and I changed my vote from small to medium.

Fantasy or real. I really think I lean a little more towards real (75%/25%).

I've had a lot of fun on some of the Fantasy maps here on CC, but I really love to use the Historical aspects (topography, geography, built-in advantages & disadvantages) of the real maps. That's once I learn the History, of course. hahah

Fantasy was chosen last week as I am sure you know. When all of the templates are out of the way, we will hit on theme, graphics and gameplay. So theme will be in about 2 or 3 weeks time.

For all those complaining about scrolling, remember, not all have small screens and if the map does go large (up to 99 regions) that can be made in the current sizes. Also, who says 99 regions will be used. 67 may end up being used on the map, hence the huge differences.

I gots a 24 inch wide screen hooked up to my 42 inch TV via HDMI. Size is not an issue for me. Make it bigger if you wish! ;-)

[spoiler=showing your support]You can show your support for this project in more ways than just showing up. We have an avatar and signature for you to use as well. Randomly as I travel through the forums, if I come across someone using either one, a medal will be thrown at them. Think of it like the spread the love competition. Just without the partner.

A few days left.

For our second competition, we are going to look into the future.

...............................What Can I Say?
Every map that gets made, a small description needs to be written. This is what was written for Rorke's Drift.
Map Description wrote:January 1879, around 4500 Zulu warriors attacked the tiny outpost of Rorke's Drift. Under the command of Chard and Bromhead, around 130 British and 20 Natal regulars defended the outpost for 2 whole days before relief.

Below, you will find 4 descriptions for 4 different maps at different stages of map making.
You will find the maps in the
drafting room, main foundry and beta map forums. All you need to do is go hunting for which map is being described. Then when you have the four maps, send the names of them to me ([player]koontz1973[/player]) via PM.

Map 1
Battle for HIGH GROUND! Auto-deploy bonuses which increase as players conquer higher ground; higher levels bombard lower levels. The summit is the only territory that can kill starting spots.
Map 2
Set of on your travels, exploring the furthest regions. Explore unknown lands with famous explorers. But watch out for monsters swim in the waters.
Map 3
This is a simple map, in some ways similar to route 66, where the win objective is to hold the route. Its based on real life, but I have added a few stations and connections that would/could be built in the future.
Map 4
This map incorporates resource collection (4 weapons), build-a-bonus (Capitals), auto-deploy territories, gameplay from standard CC maps, and continues the series style including two "free-for-all" regions.

[spoiler=rules]Please read through all rules.
  • No posting answers into the thread.
  • Send all answers to me [player]koontz1973[/player] via PM.
  • Answers to me by this time
  • At the end of the competition, all correct answers will be entered into a random draw (Random.org) to determine the winner of the GA medal.

Disclaimer: Maps can be moved by the foundry personal at any time. So a map can go from the drafting room to the main foundry or from beta maps to the recycle bin. This will only be done per normal foundry rules and not to mess with your heads. ;) [/spoiler]

Good luck and have fun. :D

just a poll result writing error
Poll one.
Map based on fantasy 97 votes 55%
Map based on real place 45 votes 79%

second should be 79 votes 45%
De gueules à la tour d'argent ouverte, crénelée de trois pièces, sommée d'un donjon ajouré, crénelé de deux pièces
Gules an open tower silver, crenellated three parts, topped by a apertured turret, crenellated two parts
