Welcome Comrades to the 92nd edition of the Dispatch
As the swirls of dust from the Pantheonic plethora swirl over my crawling skin I gaze blindly into the night. Is it there or not. Can it actually be a form appearing before my very eyes. The darkness is so dense that I am sure that my eyes are tricking me. If only I had listened to the multitude. If only I knew what I was looking at ... or it that I don't see because I know not what I want to see? If only there was a sign. A sign? A sign! That's it ... it's a sign! Too hard to make out the features in the gloom. Where's a carrot when you need one? Ah ... it's clearer now that I am closer to it. [Munches Easter carrot with uncharacteristic fervor.] What's this?
Well, it's whatever you want it to be! Read the Foundry for more details. But I positively tingle at the possibilities! Congrats CC, and [player]koontz1973[/player] and [player]Seamus76[/player] in particular, you've done us proud again. Something exciting indeed!
Despite being busted as a multi, [player]DoomYoshi[/player] brings us updates on his rewards and challenges and has just managed to pay penance accordingly - he even gets a promotion to Suggs manager to boot! [player]safariguy5[/player] brings us an update in the world of Mafia Wars and the long-anticipated interview of [player]denthefrog[/player] - ooh-la-la! [player]Leehar[/player]'s team updates us on the world of clans - thanks [player]Ickyketseddie[/player] and [player]qwert[/player] and check out [player]Swifte[/player]'s new Movers and Shakers column. [player]Dukasaur[/player]'s team, running low on writers, brings us what could be one of the last instalments in the Tourney world - read the shock explanation but enjoy [player]DaveH[/player] and [player]anamainiacks[/player]'s articles all the same! Finally, there is the usual mindblowing entertainment from [player]koontz1973[/player]'s team in the Foundry - with the man himself bringing a ton of updates and another competition supported by [player]generalhead[/player] and [player]Seamus76[/player]. If there nothing there for you then we are indeed sorry, not for us but for you! In the words of Khalil Gibran:
I have learned silence from the talkative, toleration from the intolerant, and kindness from the unkind; yet, strange, I am ungrateful to those teachers.
Enjoy the fruit of our labouring fingers!

[spoiler=Interrogation of denthefrog]Q. What's up?
The sky
Q. How many frogs are living in your den?
4, I'm the only ugly one.
Q. What's your favorite kind of frog?
Poisonous frog
Q. What is your favorite fact about frogs?
The one about being kissed by a princess.
Q. Is it easy being green?
Better green than pink
Q. What is your favorite map?
The rail maps
Q. Marry me (loes)?
Of course
Q. Ass or breast man?
Boob man
Q. I (Ace Rimmer) don't know how long you've been a SoC instructor. Does it get old, or do you still find it enjoyable? Do you try to mix it up enough so you aren't always teaching the same thing?
I have been too busy lately with KoRT leadership and being a MOW so teaching hasn't been a priority. But it's still enjoyable, especially when you are trying to help win a game for somebody and their reply is "wow I didn't think of that" or something similar. As for mixing it up, well there is always a map or setting that some friend or I want to learn.
Q. Do you think josko would make a good teacher?
He is a good teacher.
Q. How often do you get students and privately you say "what a feckin moron"?
Never
Q. Will you submit your answers on time?
I think so. I don't like being late or wasting people's time.
Q. Is fishydance your CC wife since you are playing the merch's valentine tourney with her?
Nope, luckily for her.
Q. As a Frenchman, how upset are you with CC's refusal to implement a "surrender" button?
lol I don't really get upset at online stuff, especially when it comes from morons like you.
Q. Who do you prefer as your wife: Jane or Loes?
I'll break the law and have them both.
Q. Who do you prefer as your wife: Pirlo or Merch313?
I saw a picture of Merch, so it's got to be Pirlo.
Q. How did you come to be so awesome, man? Any tips for the rest of us?
I don't think I'm awesome, but thanks. But seriously, for standard esc games, go to SoC to learn the basics. As for team games, communication is all and it's even better if you can take your turns with your partners or at least one of them.
Q. Best game ever?
Don't pay too much attention to any single game really. Winning my first dubs tourney with drunkmonkey was nice and winning CL4 was a bit special too.
Q. If pirlo was a girl would you marry her?
I'm easy, why not.
Q. What's your best thing you cook?
Anything fresh and seasonal
Q. How much do you hate EW for excluding me (Foxglove) and fishy from this list? (I hope a lot, but in a friendly sort of way.)
Don't mind him, I wouldn't mind adding you two to my harem.
Q. Who is the best looking KORT girl? Pick wisely!
They are all gorgeous and I love them all.
Q. In Escalating Terminator, will you "pull the trigger" if you have a chance at a kill, even if there's not enough cards there for a re-cash?
Not anymore, only winning the game counts these days. Unless I have no chance to win, then might as well take few points before dying.
Q. What is the biggest obstacle n00bs face when coming to our site?
Not sure since it's been a long time, but I would guess it would be the huge varieties of maps and settings?
Q. How many times has Josko made you cry?
Never but I almost foe him once. lol (I love him really, he is the best but can be a bit tense sometime but that is the price to pay to be that awesome.)
Q. What is the best part of been a SOC member and the worst part?
Best part is to see players improving, worst part is not to have the time I'd like to have lately to spend helping.
Q. Do you do it for the fame, the glory or the warm fuzzy feeling of helping others? Or is it a cover to secretively nab up and coming clan members?
The warm fuzzy feeling of helping others
Q. What's the best joke about french people have told you on this site?
Never heard a good one.
Q. What are you doing in london and how long have you been there?
I'm 1 hour away from London, Ipswich to be precise, and I have been in England for far too long. 20 years now, shit time passes quickly.
Q. If you had to kick one person out of KORT, how would you break it to merch?
Easy: you are out fucker.
Q. During your free agency, you had numerous suitors. Why KORT?
They were and still are the best clan around.
Q. How many games or percentage have you carried your team when teaming with monkey?
150%
Q. Where you get the name from? And is it Den the Frog or Dent he Frog
Den for Denis, and frog because I'm French.
Q.

I don't think he can count that high.
Can you count that high?
Unfortunately, I can.
Q. How much is that little froggie in the window?
Free
Q. Are the French better lovers than fighters?
Can't speak for all the french, but I much prefer to make love than fight. [/spoiler]
Ahoy Mateys, we've got a veritable cornucopia of articles today, from the wheeling & dealing in recruitment, updates on the All-Comers Cup & Clan League Competitions, as well as a survey on one of the great questions for Clans today, esprit de corps!
Hello again my friends. Usually I say "and welcome to your favorite part of the Newsletter, War Games, where you can find information about CC Tournaments!" Unfortunately, I'm afraid I can't quite bring myself to present such a cheery front. It's my sad duty to report to you that the Tournament world on CC might soon be a thing of the past.
Just in the last few days, the new owners of CC have decided that the Tournaments database is absorbing too many server resources, and with no revenues to counterbalance the costs, is pure deadweight loss to CC. Furthermore, the running of free tournaments is a distraction from the serious business of promoting the Conquer Cup. Therefore, over the next few months the Tournaments Department will be dismantled, and only pay-to-play tournaments like the Conquer Cup will be permitted.
To all the people whom I have had the pleasure of playing with in CC Tournaments over the last two years I bid adieu. Thanks for the memories! Oh, and by the way,
Tournament Tipsby DaveH [spoiler=League Tournaments - part 4]In this article I will continue with the steps I am using to continue the 2012 NFL season tournament I picked up from flexmaster33.
In the last article I explained the creation of lookup tables so that the points awarded to the winning and losing teams could be translated from the winning round. This created a table from which I created a list of teams and total points using the routine that I called "AddScores()".
This routine formed a list of teams with winning and losing points added from which I manually formed the following summary; Note that I have highlighted the winning team - for my own information only.
The master scorechart is shown below:
To update this master scorechart, I need a routine that selects the starting row of the week's results. It then picks out, in turn, the winning team and score and the losing team and score. It then goes down the master scorechart to match the name of either team. The home or away points are added and also the number of wins or loses also.
Sub Update() iResRowStart = InputBox("Enter the Starting Row Number of the Results:")
'select each matchup in turn and extract the winning and losing data For i = 0 To 15 aAwayTeam = Cells(iResRowStart + i, 3).Value aHomeTeam = Cells(iResRowStart + i, 5).Value iAwayScore = Cells(iResRowStart + i, 4).Value iHomeScore = Cells(iResRowStart + i, 6).Value
For j = 3 To 34 'run down the team name column of the master scorechart If Cells(j, 3).Value = aAwayTeam Then 'an away team match Cells(j, 8).Value = Cells(j, 8).Value + iAwayScore 'update the home and away scores Cells(j, 9).Value = Cells(j, 9).Value + iHomeScore If iHomeScore > iAwayScore Then 'Home Win Cells(j, 5).Value = Cells(j, 5).Value + 1 ElseIf iHomeScore = iAwayScore Then 'Tied Cells(j, 6).Value = Cells(j, 6).Value + 1 Else 'Away Win Cells(j, 4).Value = Cells(j, 4).Value + 1 End If
ElseIf Cells(j, 3).Value = aHomeTeam Then ' repeat as above but for a home team Cells(j, 8).Value = Cells(j, 8).Value + iHomeScore Cells(j, 9).Value = Cells(j, 9).Value + iAwayScore If iHomeScore > iAwayScore Then 'Home Win Cells(j, 4).Value = Cells(j, 4).Value + 1 ElseIf iHomeScore = iAwayScore Then 'Tied Cells(j, 6).Value = Cells(j, 6).Value + 1 Else 'Away Win Cells(j, 5).Value = Cells(j, 5).Value + 1 End If Else End If Next j Next i End Sub
One of the problems with a any routine such as this is if the team name is spelled incorrectly, in which case there will be missing data in the master scorechart. To check on this I tally the total scores in the week's results and check that, in updating it, twice this value has been added to the previous total (twice because each team score is recorded twice on the master scorechart).
(These "tips" started off as ones that I used to make it a bit easier in managing my own tournaments. Now, I am looking at other types of tournaments and scoring systems by all you innovative TO's out there. So, if you have a unique scoring system that you would like me to have a go at automating, please let me know and I'll be pleased to try and assist. Any queries on the above I'll be glad to respond to of course. Please note that I use Excel 2003, so there may be variation in the menu instructions if you have other versions of Excel)[/spoiler] TPA3 Wrapby DaveH
