Tournament is full, accepting reserves.
If I'm doing my job as a parent, one of the lessons I should hope my kids remember is that life ain't fair. You never know what's going to happen. Sometimes things go your way, sometimes they don't. In that vein, I introduce the Life Ain't Fair: Totally Random tournament. Every setting will be randomized, including how many players in each game. Each player will play 3 games (5 in the final round) in each round, and be awarded points based on how many people s/he beat in each game. The top half (by points) of the field will move on to the next round. Points will not carry over from round to round. The final round will be the first round with 8 or less players remaining. Freemiums welcome, but must keep 3 slots open for this tournament. I will user random.org to generate the randomness required for this tournament.
If any freemium players make the final round, all 5 sets of games would be figured out, but only the first 3 games assigned to freemium players will be created, with the final 2 games involving any freemiums being created as possible. (See Minutiae section for more info on how this would work). I will publish the games determined, but not created, in this thread.
- Number of entrants: Any, minimum of 16- The last 10% of people who sign up will be kept as reserves.
- Map: Random
- Game Type: All of them: randomized selection
- Play Order: 50% chance of either Sequential or Freestyle
- Troop Deployment: 50% chance of either Manual or Automatic
- Spoils: 25% chance of Escalating, Flat, Nuclear or None
- Reinforcements: 33% chance of Chained, Adjacent, or Unlimited.
- Special Gameplay: 50% chance it will be Foggy; 50% chance it will be Trenchy
- Round Limit: 25% chance of 20, 30, 50, or 100 Rounds - "None" will not be an option, I'd like to be sure this tournament ends eventually.
How it'll work: I'll randomly select a game type, then randomly select the number of players who will be playing in that game (from the allowed choices, of course- if it's Quads game, it obviously need to be populated by exactly 8 people), then randomly populate that game with players. Once that's done, I'll create more games with the players who have not yet been assigned a game. Once the list of players has been exhausted, I'll repeat this twice more (4x more for the final round). The remaining game (If you have more questions about this process, please see the "Minutiae" section below.)
Points: Points will be awarded as follows:
Standard games:

For Terminator games 1 point will be awarded for each player eliminated. Additionally, points will be awarded for placing thusly:

If a Terminator game ends due to a Round Limit being reached, each surviving player will be awarded an additional point for not being terminated (except 1st place- this point is already factored in in the above point schedule).
For Assassin games, the winner will receive (2 x number of players) points (16 for an 8 player game, 14 for 7 player, etc.).
For team games: For Quads, Trips, & 2-team Doubles games, each player on the winning team will receive 4 points. For 3-team Doubles, each player on the 1st place team will receive 4.5 points & each player on the 2nd place team will receive 1.5 points. For a 4-team Doubles game, each player on 1st place team will receive 5 points, each on 2nd gets 2, & each on 3rd gets 1 (this follows the last 3 columns in the Standard game point chart).
If a 2-player Terminator or Assassin game is created, it will be awarded points following the Standard game point scheme (i.e., the winner in a 2-player will receive 4 points in from a 2 player game, regardless of how it is labeled).

12 hour rule
All 2-player games will observe the 12 hour rule: If you are the first player to act in a a 2-player game, You must wait at least 12 hours to take your turn in the first round. (Exceptions granted for build boards, or if the 2nd player to act has explicitly stated in game chat s/he has seen the board).
Ties
Ties within games: If 2 or more people are eliminated simultaneously in a game, the points for those places will be averaged & given equally to those players (e.g., If there 4 people left in a 6 player standard game, & 2 players are nuked out of existence on the same play of cards, the 3rd & 4th place points (2 and 1, respectively), will be averaged, and each player will receive 1.5 points.
Round-level ties: If a non-trivial (i.e, if some of the players involved in the tie would move on, but others would not) tie exists after a round is complete, all tied players involved in a non-trivial tie would play one game to break the tie. This game would use the same random settings as the other games, but team games would not be selected from, even if possible.
Final round ties If a tie exists for 1st place following the final round, all players tied for 1st place will play 3 additional games to determine the winner, using the same point structure as the main tournament. No team games will be used in such a tiebreaker, even if possible.
Replacement by reserves
Each player will receive 2 invitations to join his/her assigned games. Missing (ignoring, not noticing, whatever) both invites will cause you to be replaced by a reserve in the tournament.

For all rounds except the final round, each player will be assigned 3 games. Each player will be assigned a game before the the 2nd set of games will be created, & each player will be assigned 2 games before the 3rd is created. While in most cases each game type will have a 1/6 chance of being selected, this will be modified if there are 9, or less than 8 players yet to be assigned a game- a Quads game will not be selected in either case (if there are 9 players left to be assigned, a quads game cannot be created because the remaining player would not to able to be assigned a game). Likewise, Trips games would not be created if there were 7, or less than 6 players left to be assigned; Doubles if 5, or less than 4.
Edit: added Additional Rules section, added clarification on awarding of points in Terminator games.
Edit 2: added paragraph on freemiums making final round.
Edit 3: added conditions upon which one would be replaced by a reserve player.
Edit 4: corrected typo
Edits 5+: updated thread title
