Re: RC Fun

We bought a nice one for my old dad that he enjoys; I simply cant get the helicopter flying thang.....lol

I have had lots of fast rc vehicles over the years; my current (long term) project is making an everglades style airboat - about 4' long, powered by a 50cc chainsaw motor with a dual 16" prop.....can't wait to finally get it going; should be the perfect size for a GI Joe ;o) I've calculated that (if the damn thing works) it should go like 40 mph.....

I've had hydrofoils with like a 3 cc gas motor (cute miniature outboard) that were maybe 2' long...they were really fun and actually hauled ass; the air boat is just an exercise in excess and stupidity but it'll sure be cool ;o)

We bought our daughter a pretty affordable yet smoking rc truck. http://www.hpiracing.com/kitinfo/105502/
Highly recomend the mini recon. Tough, fast, fun and inexpensive!

I was considering getting a plane but decided to get a sim instead. On the big screen it's pretty cool. I lost count of how much we have saved by not crashing real ones. Also it's wintery here and I can fly if I want. No long underwear required.

I understand it's very different, yet because I dip into too many hobbies I'm quite satisfied with not flying the sim.

I'm a fixed wing guy and the biggest reason I didn't get a physical RC sopwith was... I decided to focus my time and spare pennies on getting my actual license back.

We went to a meet a couple of years ago where guys had brought all their amazing stuff from here and B.C. There was a functioning jet that he said he had spent $15000 on. My 6 year old likes to fly a similar one on the simulator. We actually learned enought to get a helicopter to fly and occasionally land on the sim. I would have given up on a real one. Much carnage.

How about this?

THANK YOU Bedub for that poignant post =D> I agree wholeheartedly ;o) The dude at the RC shop where we bought my dad's heli said that planes were MUCH easier to fly....would like to try...

In RL, I have had the chance to man the controls of both a plane (small cessna) and a helicopter (gazelle)....I found the helicopter much more logical / inherently do-able....I couldn't turn the plane for crap....lol.

Here is my favorite plane in RC form....so cool.....they make RC plane sized REAL working radial engines...again....so cool....

Thanks to this conversation we just started it up today. Good times playing with my kid. Saving thousands of dollars on smashed equipment.

He loves crashing them. Makes me cranky but since he's not really wrecking things I try not to let it get to me.

I was trying to fly a Huey. Those buggers are heavy and unstable. Pretty tough. He got a good laugh at me crashing the thing.

The Goose is the rarest one....super expensive. What was that an 8 seater? I think the Widgeon replaced it (5 seater?) and they are available for about the same price as the Albatross....why not go big?? lol LOVE that plane.....

Ever since I saw one, I've wanted a Spycopter, something you can use outside your house and that besides recording, you can look live.

How much would one of those cost and who's going to buy it for me?
