don't kill me, isaiah, but i think u're try to cover far too large an area. the miami of art deco and gloria estefan is not the miami of the outer suburbs. the latter dominate the map to its detriment. the miami that i'd like to see is one of more detail, from coral gables in the far south-west to north bay village in the far north, cutting out everything north and west of these limits. where are the famous places that are the essence of the city: coconut grove, ocean drive, the biltmore hotel or even liberty city?

ian. :)

cropping away all of the outer suburbs and expanding miami beach widthways will add atmosphere by allowing more of the better-known places to appear as playable regions.

I'm working on this to see how and what can be done. As far as tourist attractions and such the major ones are in the Greater Miami area. Maybe I should just name this Miami & Greater Miami?

I like what you've done with changing the textures and the skyline.
I suggest changing the font/kerning on "Roads are impassable, Cross via Crossroads". It's currently taking up too much room and making it messy.
Perhaps make it the same as the text above it but keep the colour.

tourist attractions such as what? apart from the everglades, hollywood beach and the anne kolb nature center, all of which are outside of the area on this map (and only the first of which is actually in miami-dade county - do u remember the numerous objections we've had in the past to any parts of new jersey appearing as playable areas on maps of new york?), i'm struggling to think of any, though i've admittedly been to miami only twice. a quick look on tripadvisor also shows the gator park, which is too far west of our map to be shown, but virtually nothing else west or north of the palmetto expressway (the road on our map that goes from kendall to opa-locka).

fattening-up miami beach by stretching it east-west and eliminating the entire west and north will let us add some playable regions in areas that are more familiar to tourists.

American Airlines Arena
Bayside Marketplace
Bicentennial Park
City of Miami Cemetery
Club district, including Club Space, Gold Rush, the Vagabond
Flagler Street commercial district
Freedom Tower
Gusman Center for the Performing Arts
History Miami museum
James L. Knight Center concert and event venue
Miami Art Museum
Miami-Dade Public Library, Main Library

I must say I like this new look. I thought of something similar with Madrid when I was looking at google maps. Will be interesting to see the play mechanics when you have it sorted out.

this is very promising indeed! with bongos cuban cafe and bayside marketplace in there, the city is taking on character.

it's a pity that this is miami without south beach though (arguably its most famous attraction of all). to fix this, a to-scale map does not work at all because we end up with downtown in the bottom left, miami beach in the top right and a whole expanse of non-playable blue water in the middle. i tried cutting out most of the water and joining up ur downtown map with a miami beach map by using a blue dotted line to represent the macarthur causeway. it looks rather ugly just now, but does a map along these lines work for u?

Watch it folks! iancanton is becoming a mapmaker!

But yes that could work, I may need to go a little wider so things don't become cramped, cluttered, messy etc. This is a great idea ian, thank you! I play with it some and see what I can come up with.

By the roads. Which is something that needs to be discussed.

I was thinking of one way streets, two way streets, light rail system in Miami. You can attack a POI that touches the street you are on.

prohibition chicago, with non-neighbouring buildings separated by streets and linked by dotted paths if not in the same block, is one way to go. another is classic cities, with buildings linked by lines representing bus, metrorail or metromover routes. copenhagen sightseeing is a third way, with each region given the name of a building and being adjacent only if visibly touching. i'm sure u can think of others!

here is a map of the metromover routes for u to see whether this part of the plan is viable. parts of the inner loop and omni loop seem most relevant for our purposes.
