Well, so much for so little! Ladies and gentlemen, this tourney is about to get even more interesting!

Burundi has just completed a sweep of Serbia in the cross-country relay, and Turkey and Bhutan have combined to eliminate Burundi from the shooting competition.

This means that it is officially impossible for any one team to win all 5 individual events, as all 72 teams have been eliminated from at least 1 of the 5.

Are your knuckles white yet? I know mine are! :D

Day 4 action in the Fencing and Show Jumping competitions has now concluded, and only 1 Shooting game remains undecided.
Nepal still holds the overall lead, but Serbia has trimmed that lead to a measly 2 Standings Points.
At this point, the competition to top the overall standings is a two-horse race, as third-place Pakistan now trails Serbia by 12 Standings Points.

I will do my best to keep you guys updated as more results come in.

Here is an in-depth analysis between Nepal and Serbia. I tried to get the spoilers to work, but I don't know how to use them

Team Fencing
NEP:69
SRB:70
Both teams left in the quarterfinals, with Serbia set to play against #6 ranked Burundi and Nepal ready to take on #1 ranked Guyanas.

Shooting
NEP:44
SRB:54
Both teams are eliminated

Show Jumping
NEP:69
SRB: 49
Serbia has the ability to gain or lose a lot of points here as the standings are super tight right around here, while Nepal will fluctuate very few points as the leaders in this event pull away.

Synchronized Swimming
NEP:63
SRB:65
Anything can happen here

Cross-Country Relay
NEP:66
SRB:71
Serbia got swept in the round of 16 while Nepal sits at a 2-2 tie with Pakistan. If Nepal can win in this round, this has the potential to be a 10 point turnaround in their favor.

Overall
NEP:311
SRB:309
This is going to come down to Serbia’s ability to win in Show Jumping and Nepal’s ability to survive in the cross-country relay. At this point, anything can happen!

Now that I am home and can update this tournament regularly, I should hope it will start moving quickly again.

Round 2 of the Shooting competition is now complete - congratulations to the 8 shooters who will advance to Round 3:
neanderpaul14 - Afghanistan
KraphtOne - Bhutan
TheCrown - Iran
kizkiz - St. Lucia
cwinslow22 - Mexico
General Bax - Puerto Rico
gubarretto - Sierra Leone
Peteee - Turkey

Depends what you define as "far behind." I remind you, however, that Day 4 is only the halfway point of the tournament.
At this moment, you are in fourth place:
2 points behind Pakistan,
12 points behind Serbia, and
16 points behind Nepal.
To give you a bit more detail, I will expand nicestash's most excellent analysis to include third-place Pakistan and fourth-place Burundi.

Fencing (for some reason, spoilers wouldn't work - but only for this event)
NEP: 69

SRB: 70
PAK: 57
BDI: 67
Pakistan is the only team of the 4 not to have progressed to the quarterfinals, so they are locked in at 57 points.
The match between #3 Serbia and #6 Burundi will certainly be an interesting one. The two fencers know each other fairly well, having recently faced off in the Round of 16 in the Cross-Country Relay, with smegal69 of Burundi victorious over mviola of Serbia.
#4 Nepal will face #1 Guyana, but that fact should not do much to dampen Leehar's confidence, as he knocked off then-#1 Dutch fencer notyou2 in the Round of 16, while Guyana's fencer richman688 is coming off a relatively easy sweep of #16 Eternal Shadow of Pakistan.
Since only 8 teams remain at this stage of the competition, Nepal, Burundi, and Serbia are each guaranteed between 65 and 72 points. Thus, there is not much difference between 1st and 8th and this event probably will not have as much of an impact on the overall results with the overall gaps as wide as they are.
NEP: 44
SRB: 52
PAK: 43
BDI: 49
All four teams have now been eliminated from this event.

NEP: 69
SRB: 49
PAK: 64
BDI: 54
Show jumping is the most volatile event in this tournament. It is one of only two events from which no teams are ever eliminated, the difference between a win and a loss is never more than 4 measly Event Points, and there are also many, many ties, meaning that it is possible at any moment for a few bad rolls to cause one of these teams to tumble down the table or, conversely, for a few great rolls to enable a team to rocket to the top of the standings. I would caution any team who finds themselves atop this event (*cough Nepal cough*) to not get too comfortable up there.

NEP: 63
SRB: 65
PAK: 66
BDI: 64
This event is not quite as volatile as Show Jumping, since the difference between a win and a loss can be as much as 12 points, but that is more than made up for by the fact that these 4 teams are so one right behind the other here. The warning I offered to the Show Jumping leaders applies here as well.

NEP: 66
SRB: 71
PAK: 67
BDI: 61
Burundi's sweep of Serbia in the round of 16 will be a huge factor in determining how these numbers will change by the end of Day 4. The extra quarter of an Event Point Burundi gets for the sweep has the potential to rocket them up the table, especially since having won their relay in 4 games gives them the advantage in any tiebreak situation, while Serbia's having lost that relay in 4 games puts them at a big disadvantage in any tiebreak situation. Nepal currently sits at a 2-2 tie with Pakistan, after having initially led 2-0. If Pakistan can continue their comeback and win this relay, it could be a big blow to Nepal's overall lead, and Nepal's failure to complete the sweep may well see Burundi shoot past them and at least narrow the gap between the two teams on the overall scoreboard.

NEP: 311
SRB: 307
PAK: 297
BDI: 295
This is going to come down to Serbia’s ability to win and Nepal's ability to hold on to their perch in Show Jumping, as well as Nepal’s ability to survive in the cross-country relay and just how big a boost Burundi gets from their sweep of Serbia.
Of course, anything can still happen, as this is only the halfway point of the tourney!

Thanks very much for that analysis sempai, it's very interesting!
I have a question though: for a bracket round, fencing for example, does a round of 16 appearance guarantee you a top 16 finish? Pakistan got swept in the round of 16th and are in 16th place, but they only have 3 points whereas several people below them have 3.5 or even 4 points.

Whoops! Sorry I haven't answered that question yet, nicestash - it's a good one.
Yes, a Round of 16 appearance in fencing or cross-country relay does guarantee you a top-16 finish, just as a Round 3 appearance in Shooting guarantees you a top-8 finish.
My reasoning for that is that a team should not finish higher in the standings than a team that stayed in the competition longer.

Day 4 action in the Synchronized Swimming event is finally complete!
Nepal and Serbia have held on to first and second place, respectively, and are still separated by 4 points, each having lost 2 in Synchronized Swimming.
Pakistan has suffered a slight setback, losing 3 points to fall 13 points behind Nepal, and, more importantly, allowing Burundi to take third place after gaining 4 points to move within 12 of Nepal.
I, for one, am very excited to see the results of the cross-country relay and how they impact the overall standings at the very end of Day 4.
5 relays are still ongoing, but they look to be just winding down at this point.

That win by swimmerdude (Preston) in the 7th game of the Nepal v Pakistan cross country relay was huge! I'm not sure if you saw the game, but Preston pulled off a win with a lucky 3 card set after being knocked down to a single territory. It was a very good game, and nerve-racking for me to watch!

Haha, and as your country losses more games and gets knocked out of more events, your game load will go down.
The last game should finish soon: Game 12340243 and then the festivities will be in full swing once again!

I decided to update the analysis of the top 4 contenders for the end of day 4. A lot of the rankings were unchanged, so I copied a bunch of sempaispellcheck’s stuff (my additions will be bolded).

The overall rankings have changed a bit with Burundi moving up from 4th to 2nd and Serbia and Pakistan dropping down a spot to 3rd and 4th respectively. Nepal still holds the top spot. The scores are:
NEP: 314

BDI: 306

SRB: 296

PAK: 290

Fencing (I also couldn't get the spoilers to work for this event)
NEP: 69

BDI: 67
SRB: 70
PAK: 57
However, after being swept by Burundi in the cross country relay, Serbia will have to get some revenge and knock them out of this event in order to regain the number 2 spot and potentially challenge Nepal for the lead.
NEP: 44
BDI: 49
SRB: 52
PAK: 43

All four teams have now been eliminated from this event.

NEP: 69
BDI: 54
SRB: 49
PAK: 64

Show jumping is the most volatile event in this tournament. It is one of only two events from which no teams are ever eliminated, the difference between a win and a loss is never more than 4 measly Event Points, and there are also many, many ties, meaning that it is possible at any moment for a few bad rolls to cause one of these teams to tumble down the table or, conversely, for a few great rolls to enable a team to rocket to the top of the standings. I would caution any team who finds themselves atop this event (*cough Nepal cough*) to not get too comfortable up there.

NEP: 63
BDI: 64
SRB: 65
PAK: 66
This event is not quite as volatile as Show Jumping, since the difference between a win and a loss can be as much as 12 points, but that is more than made up for by the fact that these 4 teams are so one right behind the other here. The warning I offered to the Show Jumping leaders applies here as well.

NEP: 71
BDI: 70
SRB: 62
PAK: 61

The round of 16 changed the rankings of the leaders I lot more than expected, with Nepal and Burundi taking out Pakistan and Serbia respectively. The lack of prior sweeps means that Serbia and Pakistan are stuck at the bottom of the round of 16 losers and with the exit of the top 3 teams, Nepal and Burundi are looking very good.

This is going to come down to Nepal’s ability to continue winning in the Show Jumping as well and Serbia and Burundi’s ability to win in the fencing and gain some ground on Nepal. The Show Jumping also continues to be the most important event for all of these teams to win. I think the synchronized swimming could be a sleeper until the very end and if these teams want to win, they’ll have to focus on getting wins in this event.

It’s looking to me like Nepal and Burundi are going to be slugging it out for the trophy and although Nepal has an 8 point lead, a good performance by Serbia in the Show Jumping (they’re 15 points behind Nepal) gives them a huge tactical advantage if they do well. If Serbia can win the fencing and do well in the Show Jumping as well, they might be able to squeeze out a win. In my opinion, the situation is looking pretty bleak for Pakistan as they’ve been eliminated from the fencing, shooting, and cross country relays, and even if they were seated #1 in both the Show Jumping and the Cross-Country Relay, they’d still be 5 points behind Nepal (they’d have 309). Anything can happen though, and in any case we still have a lot of fun to go!

As nicestash was so quick to notice, Day 4 officially concluded yesterday afternoon. I have been and will be creating Day 5 games and sending out invites as I find the time, so please be patient.
At least one player needs to be replaced at this point, and more may soon join him, so if you know anyone who would like to get in on the action, please have them post in the thread.

Thank you, and good luck to all of you in Day 5!

Btw, not that it really matters, but I was curious about the scoring for the bottom 3 fencing finishers:

URU 1 3 Earned 4 GS1 losses in total of 36 rounds.
SAM 1 2 Earned 4 GS1 losses in total of 38 rounds.
LCA 1 1 Earned 4 GS1 losses in total of 44 rounds.

Shouldn't LCA and URU be switched? In the past, lasting more rounds before being eliminated was better.

We still need at least one reserve to get Day 5 fully underway. PLEASE, if you know ANYONE who might want to step it, have them sign up in the tourney thread.
