Israel and Palestine will be at peace when Palestine's purpose for existing stops being to destroy Israel.

I posted this in Gillpig's thread too, but it's worth it cross-posting here to observe how lopsided the vote was ... despite the howls and screams of the Israeli ambassador, the vote passed 138-9, with only the USA, Israel and 7 tiny, meaningless nations voting against it:

    - Ceska
    - Nauru (population: 9,378)
    - Marshal Islands (former U.S. colony)
    - Micronesia (former U.S. colony)
    - Panama (former U.S. colony)
    - Palau (former U.S. colony)
    - Canada (current U.S. colony)

Still this is not enough. It simply recognizes a landless "State of Palestine" with no view in respect of its just borders. The West Bank and Gaza are not enough. The 1967 borders are not enough. The Palestinians should not brook any compromise until Palestine controls all territory from the River to the Sea. Any Israeli who does not feel they can live under a Palestinian government should enjoy absolute freedom to relocate to Canada, the US, Palau, Micronesia, Nauru, Panama or the Marshal Islands.

Israel and Palestine will be at peace when Israel stops treating Palestinians as slaves.

They've never been treated as slaves, so why isn't there peace?

How does one treat a slave, NS?

I also support a one-state solution, but I'm not in-tune with the idea of splitting votes 50/50. That results in Palestinians being treated as 3/5 of a person, like slaves. Under the principle of one-person, one-vote, Palestinians should get something like 60% of the vote. 50/50 would be as unfair as the 1948 partition plan in which Jews, who had legal title to 7% of the land, were given control of 45% of the territory (including all the best farmland). The 1948 partition plan was so unfair that the Arab League was left with absolutely no choice but to immediately invade. To avoid future hostilities, equality in division should be observed.

You're confusing Palestine with Hamas. The former is a nation who have been robbed of their land, rights and dignity, while the latter is a militant political movement. Most Palestinians want to see a return to the 1949 border line, and would probably settle for the '67 border line as a compromise. The real aggressors here are the Zionist movement within Israel who believe they have rightful claim to the land from the Mediterranean sea to the Hiddekel (Euphrates) because that's what their god promised to Abraham, Isaac & Jacob.

Is it any wonder that Hamas were democratically elected in the Gaza strip after the way that Palestinians in general, and the Gaza Palestinians in particular, have been treated by the state of Israel?

And for this reason there will be no absolute peace. Ever think that religious views CANT be compromised. Some people will not budge since religion trumps all.

bedub makes the mistake of equating the two sides, when it's obvious that one side is overwhelmingly on the wrong side legally, morally and ethically.

It reminds me of that parable where they are going to cut the baby in half. They should just remove all the people from Israel and Palestine, and then nuke the place so hard that it's uninhabitable for 10,000 years. Can't learn to live in peace? Nobody gets to live here. It's like two children fighting over a toy. Can't learn to share? I take the toy away.

I'm pretty sure that's not the lesson a sane person should learn from that section of the Bible, which is not a parable.

A controversial theological view in most religions, but ok. Thanks, warmonger.
