The Revolution Begins

Post by El_Jefe »

Hi Everybody,

As you may or may not have heard, there are some big things brewing... I'm very excited to be officially joining Conquer Club as the new commander-in-chief. It is a great honor to be following in the footsteps of the fearless leader and visionary that is LackAttack. He built this game from the ground up and managed its growth into the completely addicting experience that we all love. Without him, none of us would be here. He also amassed a squad of incredible volunteers that keep the game fresh and fair and always entertaining. Thanks LackAttack!

I've been a long time player and I'm ready to do everything I can to make this game even better. We have new resources for development so we should be able to tackle many of the features, projects and improvements that have been on the to-do list. We would love to hear your suggestions for what the most important new features are (also improvements, bug fixes etc).

Please use this forum to suggest / discuss new ideas:
Suggestions

We also have an increased budget for prizes and promotions so stay tuned for new announcements. Feel free to suggest any ideas that get you excited -- more tournaments? Bigger prizes? Different prizes?

You can usually find me with a bunch of four player classic games on the go. Feel free to drop in anytime and join a game.

I'd also like to announce that AndyDufresne will retire from his position as Community Manager. By all accounts Andy has been a stellar Community Manager and the Conquer Club community has thrived under his watchful eye. Thanks for everything Andy!

Fortunately we have an experienced Conquer Club veteran standing by to take over as Community Manager. Rdsrds2120 will be the new Community Manager. He has been an excellent Head Global Moderator (and helped with the Entertainment Team and Live Chat and much more). RDS will help guide the process of improving all aspects of the Conquer Club experience. Welcome RDS!

Also a HUGE Thank-You to all the volunteers that help make this game great and this community so much fun.

There are lots of big things in store for Conquer Club and I'm thrilled to be a part of it. Hope to meet you soon in a game. Have a great day.

PS - I've just set up a bunch of classic games (unlimited reinforcements, fog of war). The password to join is JEFE. Feel free to come play (or heckle). The first person to eliminate me from one of these games gets a year of premium (or an extra twelve months if you are already premium). Please only join one game.

Dear Members,

Conquer Club has been a wonderful adventure for me since I launched it in 2006. I've met so many great people and thoroughly enjoyed the creative process. There is no question about it, this website has magic and it was a privilege to be its webmaster!

I appreciate that quite a few of you have pushed me to face the reality - I no longer have the resources to take this website further. So passing the torch to El_Jefe and his team is the best thing I can do for Conquer Club. They can not only keep the magic alive, but they can bring this website to an entirely different level of success and innovation.

Moving forward, I'm going to stick around on the admin team as "outgoing webmaster" for as long as I'm needed. I still have more technical and business knowledge to transfer and I'm eager to help out with my experience and programming skills. Yes, a few more updates by "lackattack" are in the pipeline! I also have plans to start playing again with the goal of reaching Lieutenant once I eventually become a member-at-large with no responsibilities ;-)

Our faithful Support Admin King Achilles will stay on. On top of answering player queries and running our C&A department, he'll be an important anchor of support for the new management.

Please join me in embracing our new leadership... El_Jefe and Rrdsrds2120! With this injection of fresh energy and resources, Conquer Club should be a truly exciting club to be part of. It's like 2006 all over again!

Thanks for all your support and dedication to Conquer Club. Long live Conquer Club.

Ahoy Ahoy Conquer Club,

Bananas, bananas for everyone. And by that, I mean thanks. As both Lackattack and El_Jefe have mentioned, soon I will be departing from Team CC during this transition period. It is a bittersweet departure and one that weighs heavy.

When I look back, I am not sure what sort of mark I will leave on Conquer Club and the Community. But I've had a lot of fond memories here on Conquer Club, and it has always been a pleasure to be associated with the website and Community. It has been great to be a part of the Community as a whole, and especially my usual stomping grounds of the General Discussion, the Map Foundry, and the Off Topics forum (Longest Thread, Thread callout, holla).

It has been a long but enjoyable ride from a Volunteer in the early days of 2006 helping out in the Foundry and the Suggestions forums, to moving on up to Multi Hunting and to an Administrator as Alpha Monkey, Chief Moderator, and eventually to Community Manager. I've been very fortunate to surround myself with a group of Volunteers, past and present, that have made Conquer Club rarely seem like a real job to slog and work through, and for that I am very grateful. And I am very grateful to Lackattack for giving me all these and many other great opportunities.

Over the years, I always wondered how I would end this sort of post. After some thought, I think there just might be only one fitting way to close this message:

Spoiler Alert: If you haven't seen the film and intend to do so sometime in your life, open the following spoiler and watch the clip at your own risk.

[spoiler=Shawshank Redemption Clip][/spoiler]

Thank you all, for being the best quirky Community I could ever have imagined. I leave you all in the very capable hands of El_Jefe, rdsrds2120, King Achilles, and of course our Volunteers as well! Best of luck,

Bananas.

Bon Voyage.

As is apparent by the preceding announcements by other Administrators, I will be taking the reigns of Community Manager in the wake of our dear [player]AndyDufresne[/player]. I'm sure, for most of you, the news of this transition is shocking, startling, sudden, and for some of you, sentimental that such an entity is departing from his admin role and setting out to join the ranks -- I know that it is for me:

    Image

I'll miss working with Andy in an official capacity after he has handed his duties to me, but as we, as ConquerClub progresses, I'll be ever-optimistic! I am optimistic for the future, to looking ahead at all of what can be done and accomplished, on where our journey is headed. I look back over the couple years as my moderation practice has accumulated -- whether it was starting out as a Chatter (currently with [player]trinicardinal[/player], and it has been a time I will surely miss), helping out the (now debunked 8-[ ) Strategy Guides project, joining the Special Events Team under the authority of former Entertainment Coordinator, [player]samuelc812[/player], who helped me develop and fine-tuned my Special Events approach, and now under [player]Gilligan[/player], a solid rock of a friend who I go to for exceptional advice (sometimes about Pokemon :P). Let me not forget who originally signed me onto the Global Moderator team, and who I succeeded just not too long ago, [player]clapper011[/player] -- with a sort of motherly capacity at times! I extend some shoutouts to some of my more familiar co-mods, [player]plurple[/player], [player]nagerous[/player], the incredible [player]macbone[/player], and multiple others that I'm not mentioning for brevity. I look back on my experiences with them and am thankful for my experiences up until this point that I know have well-prepared me for place as Community Manager -- and that I have fallen into an excited and anxious, yet comfortable place!

All in all, my experience with the site so far has prepared me for this expedition. I feel comfortable, collected, confident, calm and coordinated. I hope that in my time as Community Manager under [player]El_Jefe[/player], we can bring CC to new heights and establish a groundbreaking time of revamping, reworking, and reinvigorating. I look forward to working with you all, Community and Team alike, to accomplish those goals. We have a new time ahead of us -- a new journey. So, hold onto your seats, strap yourselves in, and get ready, because it is...

Yes, this is not a joke nor is it an early April Fools prank. This is really happening.

Nothing can be compared to my work experience with Lackattack and AndyDufresne and I will always be thankful for them bringing me to Conquer Club and accepting me as a part of the family. Conquer Club would have not existed and lived on without you. Thank you very much.

As what El_Jefe has said, he is now taking over as the new webmaster and will bring this website into a brighter future. We are all looking forward to that. With El_Jefe's leadership and rdsrds2120, we will continue to strive hard to make Conquer Club better as ever. This is a new chapter. A new captain with a fresh outlook and ideas. Together with all of you, Conquer Club will live on!

El_Jefe, congrats on the new role. Looking forward to seeing how you fill the huge shoes left by Lack. Good luck in that. rdsrds2120, You probably have a harder job. Filling the banana skin is probably going to be harder. I wish you luck and hope to see you around the foundry some times.

Lackattack, never spoken to you, never played you, but you are the father of the site and will be missed. Andy, wow, no more banana innuendos.

Congrats again on the promotions and happy retirements guys.
