If you're a fan of any team, in any sport, anywhere, You are familiar with the idea of "wait until next year" when your team no longer has a mathematical chance of being in the playoffs. And all you can say to a rival fan is, "Wait until next year, and we will so kick your butts." So this tournament is based around the idea of wait until next year.
There will be six baseball games. Ideally eight people will be eliminated after each pair. There will be in April and May set of games. A June and July set, etc. After each set eight people will be eliminated. Until we get down to just eight people left. If there is a tie for eighth, I will run a Doodle Earth match to determine the final entrant. Then there will be a three-game finals. If there is a tie at the end, then those in the tie will play one more baseball game to determine the winner. If for some strange reason we still have a tie, then one more. That should complete it.
Runs are scored by terminating opponents. 1 run per termination. During the regular season each of your runs Is cumulative. So runs scored in April will still count towards your total in September. At the end of the regular season, the final eight will start at zero each. (This is in honor of my Seattle Mariners who won a record setting 116 games in the regular season and were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.)
Rarely do the numbers work out perfectly. So at the end of the first two games, I may not have exactly 8 people to eliminate. The eliminations must occur in multiples of 4. So if I can't get a multiple of 4, then players continue. And there will still be four games for June and July. At that point I will Be trying to get down to 16 players. Again eliminations must occur in multiples of 4. It is conceivable that everyone would play the whole regular season, though I think unlikely.
Seedings for the games will be by random.org. The seedings will be different for each month.
I am looking for 32 players.
Settings are:
Terminator, because that's how you score runs in this tournament
Sunny, because baseball should be played in the sun.
Escalating, because we need to simulate, bad calls, weird bounces, lucky breaks, etc.
Chained, because you need to manage your team
Automatic, because everyone has an assigned spot on a team
Sequential, because there is a batting order
50 round limit because there is not a limit on the number of innings in a game but this is CC and we all know how some people will stack and stack and stack. ( For tournament purposes, if a game ends on round limit you get 1 run per base held. )
{To explain this further, as requested: Lets say player A has 1000 armies stuck out in left field. B holds 1st. C holds 2nd. D holds 3rd and home. B,C and D each only have 500+ armies. As the limit is reached CC rules would have player A win and terminate and receive points from B, C, and D. That is still true (I cannot change CC programing). However for tournament purposes player A would receive 0 runs (no bases held), B and C, 1 run, 1 base each, D gets 2 runs for holding 2 bases.}
I don't expect based on experience that most games (if any) will reach the 50 round limit.
If you win by achieving the victory conditions, thereby terminating all other players: That will be a Big, Out of the Park, Homer and you will get all the runs associated with terminations. {i.e. 4 people still in, you meet victory conditions, you get 3 runs}
Premium only because of the potential for multiple games going at the same time. I will send out the April and May games immediately. As soon as I can tell who will be continuing I will send out the June and July games. The same for the rest of the season. Yes you still finish the games and runs scored still count even though I have sent out new games before the others have finished.
This map has lots of 'killer neutrals', the batter, all the balls, the pitchers mound. A killer neutral resets to whatever its set point is the next time your turn comes up unless someone takes the space from you. So if you leave 5 troops on a baseball, the neutral kills them at the beginning of your next turn. You might still leave them there strategically but don't do it by accident.
Looking for 32 players and reserves.
Reserve Policy: If there are any players that do not join their games for April and May, they will be replaced by a reserve after 48 hours of time has passed. If a player drops for any of the later games and I can use them to make a multiple of 4, they will be eliminated, otherwise a reserve will be used to keep all games balanced.
