also, from a practical standpoint, it's not clear if there is a border between germany and irakistan or between arabia and europe. Obviously, one could use the xml reader to check, but on a map this simple, I don't think that should be necessary. I love this idea, btw.

Done... I don't quite like how Russia's smaller, but it does look clearer.

erm. it will make it seem like the child does not know what that place is. and i know fiddly bits is not a good name, but perhaps some variation on the same theme?

in the first place Europe isn't in 'bits'... and i think he'll probably have an inkling on what the actual name is, so he should put down something that has at least a tinge of relation to the original name of Europe.

Well, this map is supposedly made by kids.

Kids love potty humor. (If this were a solar system map, Uranus would be a topic of much snickering)

So... how about You're a peein' ?

Do you need an excuse to have a war? I mean, who for? Can't you just say "You got lots of cash and land, but I've got a big sword, so divy up right now, chop chop."

Let's keep it appropriate, please. Remember, people are going to play, ostensibly, thousands of games on this map... do we really want them to see "You're a peein'" on one of the territories?

I like Doodle Earth better, though "World 0.5" still makes a fine informal nickname.

As for Europe, how about "European Onion"? Too silly?

Fair enough; honesty, I didn't really give a lot of long term thought to it, it was just based on a joke my niece told me once.

So, let me toss out another idea, then- since the area in question includes places known for their contributions to world cuisine, (Italy, France, Spain, etc.) how about calling it 'Food'? Or 'Restaurants?'

That one's a bit tricky; I'm living in the USA; I'm not necessarily from it.

I cannot imagine why a seven-year-old child would call Europe Beer, but I'm sure you have a good reason.

Wisse wrote:P.S

Actually, no. For most of the elements I used a somewhat elusive (and discontinued) vector graphics program called Microsoft PhotoDraw. It has fairly good vector editing capabilities, and is capable of artistic effects like what I used for the crayon lines and distortion effects like what I used to make the lines all different thickness. It also has some graphics built in (like the crayons themselves, which was handy). It's also fairly affordable. Or it used to be before it was discontinued.
PhotoDraw does get a little slow in running once the picture gets cluttered, so I copied and pasted all of the elements into Paint Shop Pro which I used for minor editing like fixing the 'a's.

maybe it wont be that good to have it something to do with Europe, since the continent is already called Europe? perhaps we should pick a country within that area and have a play on that name.
