I say no to this. This map is already very busy. At the most find a subtle pattern or something for the oceans, but don't add an image. It will look cheezy.

Asheville is spelled wrong on the map.

I still think you should take the yellowish glow off the labels. And it seems iv'e read a lot about people having trouble distinguishing between the roads / borders and other lines. Maybe try some dotted lines? Ignore colors - but I did this quickly in illustrator for a visual.

I'd also suggest incorporate the planes into their respective army circles to help conserve space and prevent confusion. I'm having trouble figuring out if the airport is Chicago or Madison; NYC or Newark, few others I could go either way on too.

Something like this may help, since at times it has seemed like the map is more about differentiating what straight lines are which gameplay item (state borders, continental, region connectors, roads, etc).

unlike some opinions already expressed, i'm not a great fan of that precise hue of yellow in the west. the bright green highway 15 doesn't show up well on it.

just a small gameplay point: earlier on, i neglected to mention bumping up the pennsylvania bonus from +4 to +5 because of its pivotal position as gateway to the north-east when held with new york city.

the roads from syracuse to plattsburgh and buffalo to erie go over water at the moment rather than over land.

I really like this huge USA map... first time I've looked at it in a while. I hope it gets advanced to Beta soon.

Finally another update.

Changed the Western area to a greenish-yellow color. Changed the secondary highways to a dotted line and corrected the spelling of Asheville.

Same here but some had trouble distinguishing the roads from the borders.

Yeah, I think the dotted lines REALLY clear things up. Good idea.

I agree, you can now distinguish in a glance more so than before. If you don't like dots, you could always try a dashed line, which might give you the look you like, but still help with the at glance understanding. Keep up the good work.

Some other changes:

1 - Forgot about ian's suggestion to increase Pennsylvania from +4 to +5
2 - Rearranged the legend to add in a numbered list of cities on map. This was done to help with the clutter on the map, and to make it clearer and more readable. I will redo the numbers in a more logical order once this gets some feedback.

For grins and giggles here is the super large map!

It might of been for grins and giggles but it does look really nice. Will you put a texture (subtle) on the playing map and a picture into the background again?

Disappointing that the map may need a key and numbers, since I usually avoid those maps with something like that. But it is probably needed.

isaiah40...nice improvements with the dotted connections! makes the highways standout so much more
somehting is wrong with the alignment of New York City NY in the key
is there any way you can get the bottom left key text/images to line up better? perhaps put the green plane at the end of its text, and left align the highway and DC text on same guide?
