Venus is nowhere near as fun as Uranus.

You couldn't last five minutes in the smallest of solar storms that frequent the solar system. So please stay inside the nice mangetic field of you planet, that I, your Lord, made for you and not for the other planets, like Mars which has no magnetic field like the earth and no atmosphere to speak of either. Sincerely, Religion's Boss, God.

not sure if trolling or serious

also I thought this was cool Image

even a difference as small as 1% could kill most life on earth.

Yes but that doesnt mean we cant adapt to a specific environment given enough input energy.

i.e. There may not be life there, but we could potentially live there.

well, theoretically we could survive maybe a lifetime on the moon, if we wanted/needed. however, it would not be as good as on earth, and we would need artificial protection from the suns radiation etc.

also, the risk of meteor impacts is much larger, the earths magnetic shield is pretty neat and should not be underestimated, and our moon is pretty unique and essential to a stable rotation, tides, climate, and it acts like a shield as well. temperature, the pressence of water, and a life-supporting atmosphere are not the only good things about the earth, it's quite complex.

ye, potentially we could probably live almost anywhere in the universe, but it's not ideal.

Yeh and thats what the diagram shows really: "Closeness" to earth. Livable temperature, reasonable gravity, stable atmosphere (which rules mars out as you say) etc etc all contribute.

Mars we'd need to stay in our suit and use a shit load of energy on life support; however there may very well be a planet nearby (ie within 50 lys) that might be just a gas tank and thick ski jacket (or conversly lots of sunscreen) in terms of living requirements.

Venus actually could be terraformed if enough effort was put into it.

THIS IS NOW A SPACE SCIENCE THREAD, F*CK YEAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!

This figure shows an actual image of a sunset on Earth compared to artistic representations for the best candidates of potential habitable worlds so far. The image corrects for the size, colors, and brightness of the star and sky as seen from an Earth-like world located in the orbits of these worlds. The size of and colors of the star of Kepler-22 b look similar to Earth because it orbits a Sun-like star. The sunsets of Gliese 667Cc and 581d look much redder because they orbit a red dwarf star, with the sky of Gliese 581d much darker due to its greater distance. The star of HD 85512b is the brightest of all cases although the star of Gliese 667Cc is the biggest. CREDIT: PHL @ UPR Arecibo.

You could use the same reasoning to justify maintaining the current expenditures to the National Defense.

NASA has selected a new mission to Mars, which is set to launch in 2016. This mission is named InSight, and will be focused on looking into the interior of Mars to see how and why it formed so differently from its neighbouring rocky planet - Earth.
The mission will attempt to discover if the core of Mars is liquid or solid, and why the surface of Mars is not divided into tectonic plates the way ours is.
The InSight mission beat two other proposed missions - one to explore the methane-ethane sea of Titan, and another that hoped to land on a comet.

Exactly. However, this seems to be a custom made one by some random user that frequents the site...
At least, that's what I think it is - after looking for this specifically on their website and finding nothing in the non-user e-card section.
Renewed yet infused with apathy.
Let's just have a good time, all right?
