it's threads like these that make me think you're actually not an idiot, and you just pretend to be a die-hard democrat to make the rest of the democrats look bad.

I, for one, think it's hilarious. The more serious you imagine PimpDave to be, the funnier it is!

There is nothing funny about the Tea Party or their death squads. If you're laughing about Obama, well, that's just foolish.

And Romney would do better? Not even close! Particularly not with his selected VP.

It's not the government's job to "work for you". The government's job is to get out of the way so people can work for themselves.

Except when it comes to the big corporations and the wealthy, of course
Nope, its government's job to protect the weak against oppression by the powerful. Being a bully is not a right.

No, it's not the government's job to protect the weak against the powerful. It's the government's job to protect the innocent from those who violate their rights. A not so subtle yet very important distinction. You can have a powerful person and a weak person, but as long as no rights are being violated, the government has no part in their interactions.

Same thing. It really is. The weak don' t need protection unless the powerful are oppressing them.
EXCEPT.. the distinction is that the government is supposed to keep it from happening, by setting up good laws, rather than just waiting until damage is done and then attempting to "correct" what really can never be corrected.
The current system of "do as you will and a lawsuit will fix everything" is pure garbage. It is an affront to sensible society, not a real means of control and law.

The government can't prevent crime from happening unless it restricts every single action we do and watches us at every moment to make sure we don't do anything we don't already have permission to do. In the meantime, hundreds and thousands of pages of new regulations are written every year to punish lawful citizens and make it even harder to live their lives and run their businesses because each of those regulations have to be complied with (if they can even be understood in the first place). Do you really think there are that many true crimes being committed to warrant all those new regulations, or is the government just writing regulations to take more control over the actions of free people?

Ridiculous. How do you enjoy eating food that's free of parasites? How about those roads? Who let you out of daycare?

The government doesn't keep parasites out of food: the businesses that make or sell the food keep those out. If they don't, people stop buying that food. The government makes roads, but the taxpayers pay for those roads. And I've been out of daycare since I was 4, so probably my mother.

You also elect officials and pay them a salary, so... if they're not working for you, who are they working for?

Oops, thanks for re-quoting that because I missed a huge fallacy in her statement. It's not the government's job to "control" people. That's what dictatorships do, not democratic republics like the US. The government exists to punish those who violate the rights of others, not to control what people choose to do.

So if America elects Romney, by your own logic, will you also admit that he will be "working for you", which means that Obama can't rationally make the exclusive claim in the title of your thread?

my guess is that dave is just trolling and realizes that obama and romney are both NOT working for the american people. unless he's as delusional as juan and thinks that obama is some kind of people's savior

You are right about the last part player. I would add it's the government job to treat everyone equally, or else there is no equality. Being a bully is not a right, and nobody does have a right to be a bully, which means there is no reason for you to state this. The problem is the gov't is so corrupt. it will sell it's bully powers to anyone with money, including big corporation purchasing the special protections, rights, and privileges from the government with money, or voting blocks of citizens purchasing special rights, protections, and privileges with their votes.

Wow, ITT thread Upton Sinclair is a bad guy now? There's arguing for free markets and there's arguing for fictional markets. Seems like if you're going for the kind of deregulated markets of days gone by, you have to deal with the critics of those "free markets".
the world is in greater peril from those who tolerate or encourage evil than from those who actually commit it- Albert Einstein
