on the other hand czech republic despite losing so badly still seemed like they played better than greece or poland. it will be interesting to see what happens in the battle for 2nd place. as i said before the goal difference will probably be crucial and the greeks might have an advantage here because in the last game they'll an already qualified russian team that will most likely field many reserves.

Russia did very well, but judging by the play of Czech, Greece and Poland, I'd Say Czech makes a good second. I think Czech is a pretty good middle-class team, but Russia is still much better. Russia may actually make it all the way to the semi-finals. Greece might as well just go home, especially if they keep playing like this. I'm amazed Poland didn't manage to seal the win though. That's why i think Czech will actually win from Poland, but barely. Czech will have no problem with Greece however. And obviously Russia will just totally walk over Greece.

Good times.

Anyone else thinking the BBC pundits know absolutely f*ck all? At half time Hansen and co were slaughtering the Greeks defense, when they have a brilliant defense as can be seen by how few chances Poland got in the second half. Samaras was being his usual self, brilliant and terrible all at the same time

I think that the Czech team are over-rated and they were lucky to qualify, they are not as good as they used to be. I see Russia going through with 9 points and it will otherwise will be close, maybe Poland on goal difference.

The decisions made by the referee in the Greece/Poland game were hilarious.

I watched three matches today (there was a Canada v Cuba WC qualifying match in between the two euro cup games), and 67% of them included a red card to a keeper.

I definitely didn't expect either group A game to be as good as they were. Especially the first one. That shit was crazy.

I'm definitely looking forward to the group B games tomorrow.

The first tiebreaker is head-to-head match record? I didn't know that. That's gonna make a huge difference. My predictions for the rest of the group:

Greece - Czech Republic: Has draw written all over it. Santos will definitely make adjustments to the Greek team (like starting Salpi over Ninis and telling his forwards to actually do some defending) which should make the team look like it did in the second half. That team is good enough to draw with Czech Republic.
Russia - Poland: Russia should win this one. Not saying anything bad about Poland, but Russia will be too much to contain for them.

Russia 6
Greece 2
Czechs 1
Poland 1

Czech Republic - Poland: A tough one to predict, I say either a draw or a Czech win. More likely a draw.
Greece - Russia: If Russia has already qualified (which I see them having done), it'll probably be a draw or a Greece win. More likely a draw.

Russia 6 or 7
Greece 3 or 5
Czechs 2 or 4
Poland 1 or 2

Well that certainly puts a bit more pressure on the Dutch. They're really going to have to pull something out of their ass if they hope to move on now. This was supposed to be the easy match of the opening round.

That would be interesting to see. I've never been a huge fan of the Germans (too methodical, not enough flair). Portugal tends to be the opposite (playing with a fiery passion), but I haven't been able to cheer for them since the filthy quarterfinal match in 2006. We'll see as the game progresses, but I suspect I'll root for the underdogs in this one.

First shock of the tournament! Quite disappointed though, Holland play some great stuff (some of sneijders passes were sexy) and I would like to see them do better.

My opinion:

It was only a warm up for Germany.
When they play for real, they'll destroy everything that stands in their way.

cant believe holland lost , they looked good in the game, had plenty of shots but denmark managed a upset so at best they can hope for second now with germany going top.

as always germany win , although portugal did have some chances, pepe shot bounced off the cross bar right onto the line. germany look the favourites for the tournament so far we'll have to wait and see how spain do in their opener.

I picked Portugal for a 888 poker tournament but the Germans won. As per usual.

lol

Portugal has had better teams than the one they have now. I think this Portugal team is the weakest its been in the past decade, so I'd back Holland.

Why isn't it possible that Denmark advances? They can lock things up pretty good, so when they manage to win against Portugal, they have quite a good chance. Obviously I want Holland to advance, but if it's going to be someone else, I hope it's Denmark.

As for the Holland - Denmark game. Kind of disappointing, because we didn't play very bad at all, it just wasn't supposed to be. I look forward to the next matches, because they have to pull off quite a showing now. Could be awesome, could be a short tournament for the Dutch this time.

Does anyone know of a site to watch these matches on-demand? It would be very nice to be able to watch the matches when I get home from work.

That appears to be a streaming site. Do they also do on-demand replays?
