Are people happier with this small version? I am very happy with the small version. Nice and compact. However, i checked out the size of the large map also...does it really need to be that big?

Maybe the old small map could become the new large map
I won't change the size of the large....I've given something to those who have a small screen, please let also the people with a big monitor can have their version!

I think this decision is fine.
Also, for me, it's not about screen size. People (natty, DiM, tnb80, etc.) have commented that it's about a small screen. Maybe that's the case for some, but for me it's because I want a small map.
After reading the "fun" thread by natty in GD and seeing DiM's critique of the map, I decided I'd look for myself at it and give you another set of eyes.
- The impassable text in the bottom right is too small, I think it should stand out more than the gfx/xml signatures. It looks more like something that's not important, like my background of the Cuban Missile Crisis text. - I think the yellow outlines for W Africa and the orange outlines for S Africa are difficult to see against the brown of the desert. The yellow is fine on the jungle, but not so much on the sand. - I hope you can find something better to do with the bridges, I agree they are too bland. - I'm not a huge fan of the look of the sand dunes either... I wouldn't know they were dunes if it didn't say so in the impassable text. - I really like the bonus structure and how you have it without the continent borders. I think it's a nice change of pace, and I don't find it difficult to see what's going on in the map at all. I haven't played it yet, but I don't see which borders would be unclear. - I didn't look at the small (but important) things like cairnswk's notice of the Title being offset, although I do notice that easily.
Actually was looking forward to playing the map and boning up on my geography, but the continent hosts so many it would likely be too challenging to host them all.
I wonder if an historical map might reduce the number of territories needed to be named for game-play and continue accuracy?
there are 54 countries in africa... im not sure if you intentionally left off some fo the small islands, etc., or what, but Djibouti is definitely missing (it is next to Ethiopia between Eritrea and Somalia).
really cool map

Not sure if i am the first one to spot this, but in Game 10892303 orange is to receive 3 for holding the west coast when he doesn't have Senegal. BOB highlights the other 5 territories of the west coast for the bonus, but not Senegal.

It has been fixed in the xml update in the post before yours.
I'm playing my first game on this map, and I was surprised to see that I was holding a bonus. I should have read the map legend more carefully, and I can see now that each bonus is related to an animal, but I'd like to see this made more plain. If I missed it, I'm sure a lot of first-timers who aren't running BOB will miss the bonus structures, too.
After playing a bunch of games on this map, methinks Southern Africa would do best as a +3. It's already positioned in an ideal spot, given the the expansion opportunities. Plus, if you compare it to the other +4 bonus areas, it's definitely the 'cheapest'.

It is pretty easy to have an amazing bonus with South Africa, Indian Ocean, South East Africa while keeping borders down. But I'll leave the real gameplay gurus to discuss it any further.

Sully, your original post was on the 14th June and no one else has commented on it in over two months. I see no reason as of now to lower any bonuses. Keep them as they are I say.
Your right Sully, but with over a thousand games on the map (over 700 1v1), if a problem was apparent, I am sure more than you would of posted.
But if you look at the bonuses, they are pretty OK as they are. A +4 for South Africa and a +2 for Indian ocean. Reducing those bonuses undervalues them. The only problem arises when one player gains a momentum in the south.

I disagree. Southern Africa is overvalued at +4 and is still very much desirable as a +3. I mean, look at Middle Africa & Angola. There is no way that is equivalent to Southern Africa.
Compared to Middle Africa, they are pretty similar, for a map this size. Raising one or lowering the other would make them unbalanced. Compare it to Maghreb though. That one has one more territ, but one less border, and in the top corner, also has a good way to expand. Niger + Volta, same amount of territs, same border and same bonus.
None of the +4 bonuses are equal, but with all things taken into account, all are worth around the +4 mark.
Horn of Africa +2, 3 territs, 2 borders, Indian Ocean +2, 4 territs, 2 borders. Going on your logic, one of these bonuses is wrong.
I really like this map a lot but there appears to be a glitch in that you cannot attack from Baso Fastino. It doesn't even show up on the list of potential attack points. I hope I'm not duplicating what someone else already pointed out, but that's been my only complaint with this map. I like the texture of the land, the graphics are amazing and I find the distributions to be good. Thanks for hearing me out.

You had all of the territories surrounding it.
