1. Refine borders.
2. Use something more French instead of the jets. I gave you some ideas earlier in this thread.
3. Change textures.
4. Army numbers need centring.

Many people have said they don't like them (the textures) though and have also commented on your borders which are too thick and inconsistent. Fix those instead of bumping the thread. You cannot just say I like them as they are and end the argument there.

Personally I also think the Rafale jets are out of place on this map even though they are French. I would like to see something else like the Eiffel Tower and the Montgolfier instead.

Put up a poll.

And you haven't fixed the borders. The problem is that they are not all of the same thickness. Maybe you are not understanding me...perhaps someone else can explain the problem to you?

so i explain it:

Use a pattern overlay on photoshop with about 30% opacity.. they typically like those.

OK here's my thoughts (checking this at 400% magnification on IE7):
* why not change the background grey on "other regions" to solid texture....only keep texture on the france territories. since other regions are not in play, does it matter if they have no texture?
also, you have to decide what texture U LIKE on this map and if you want it to stick, then justify it against what others are saying, don't be afraid to justify it, but be very adament about why u want the texture to stick...understand?
Other things (as I haven't said much since way back):
* what is that shadow that is appearing on metz, meuse and ardennes borders...i don't think that is meant to be from the planes?
* see if you can lose the very sharp kink in the border between oise and eure
* also the kink/sharp corner on the champagne/yonne border, there appears to be some non anti-alias and smooth anti-alias heppening there together...check this hasn't happened anywhere esle on the border as it will show as a sharp kink/corner
* several of your army shadows are not centred...orne, vosges, metz, ardennes and others...check these!
* there is a white shadow happening on the savoie northern border
* is your med sea blue different to the north sea blue ( i myself think that sea blue is making the map darker, but that is only a very subjective thing for me and only my opinion)
* i agree with keyogi (i think it was) the white glow on the coastline needs to continue around the entire coast as it looks odd only on france
* i'll send you my wave texture from battle of australia if u want to see what that looks like on your oceans...it "appears" as though you have the same but reduced texture happening on the sea as on land.
Keep going! Onward and upward! You'll get there :D

Step back and choose something you like. If whatever you're going to do will please nobody you might as well please yourself.

And when I say "please" it's in relative terms. All the textures look good. Some look better. None look bad.

Did someone say smooth out the borders? It's not essential to have wrinkle free borders, but with fewer kinks the map will appear bolder and more professional.
