          Beta - Quenching

---The Final Forge period has concluded for the 1982 Map. All objections have had their time. The Foundry and I hereby brand this map with the Foundry Beta Brand. Let it be known that this map is now ready for BETA Play. After an extended period of time in BETA and once all quirks and issues have been resolved, the map will be put into Full Play (barring any Lack vetoes).

Conquer Club, enjoy!

              Image

While the map is in BETA Play, there are a couple of administrative tasks that are required of the mapmaker(s) in addition to the initial gameplay testing:
    1. Please ensure that the first post of the thread contains all the necessary information to help future visitors to the development thread; it's particularly important to ensure the most recent images are there, along with any helpful guides (such as gameplay quirks/nuances or the location/size of any starting neutrals etc.)
    2. Finally, it is the responsibility of the mapmaker(s) to ensure that they respond to further feedback in a timely and constructive manner.

Just got my first look at this and I think you need a greater contrast between land areas or maybe a more obvious border between the regions.

You mean you want the light / dark of each bonus region to be more extreme?

If so, I will look into it but do not want to take away from the look by making it too obvious.

Might be onto something.

Why is Scot's Regiment a +4 for 4 regions (only 3 of which need to be defended) in a corner of the map?

The only way to be able to hit that 4th region is to attack through 21 neutrals to get to Arg Plane 5.

Also, 1v1 games start with 21 regions for each player.

Lower it to what?

You can also go in by helicopter, less neutrals.

My bad counting. Does this make a big enough difference?

Done the images (for the contrast), but nolefan5311, go through the bonuses now and I will change them ASAP. Why wait and ruin peoples first impressions.

Spreadsheet indicates it should be at 3.08. And by helicopter, you mean going through BLZ1 to British Aircraft 1 to BLZ2? That's still almost 8 neutrals. I don't have time to run all the bonuses now, thought that might have been done before being stamped, but I will check it out tonight.

And 68 starting territories indicate the amount of starting positions per player in 2 and 3 player games should be 22.

2Bn now at 3 bonus. Higher contrast in land bonuses.

Change this map to "Falkland Islands War" or something. 1982 is a meaningless name for this map.

Thats a small non game play thing so will add to the next update list of things to do.

Not going to happen. It has both the British and Argentine names for he war at the top.

Why not 'Falklands/Malvinas Islas 1982' or something along those lines? All the other maps include both a location and date and I think that's a good practice to continue because the location/event name are much easier to associate with the map than just a year...

Because that is too long and will not go into the start a game page or any other page. It would just be shortened down to what it is now. I did have both names on the map around the title a long time ago but it was voted of during the making of the map itself. I have both the British and Argentine names on the map itself. Once players know the map, it is obvious. Anyone new to it only has to look at it.

What I suggested can't be too long.. it's shorter than 'All Your Base are Belong to Us' and that fits just fine.

The full title would be Falklands War 1982 Guerra de las Malvinas which would give it its full names for both sides of the conflict. This full title is on the map itself (at the top) as it has always been, but the title of the map has always been 1982.

No probs, it's hardly the be all and end all! And I agree with you, I like 1982 - I find it meaningful and appropriate. I'd be against changing the name.

I followed the home page link to this and expected a very different map... No neon colors? No pop punk imagery? No leg warmers? Apparantly 1982 was very different in the Falklands.

It was at that, bleak harsh weather, a loss of independence, home seemingly forgetting you. Not a very happy place to be.

The planes are bloody fantastic in this.
