In its simplest form, this tournament will have you play singles, doubles, and quads games in a semi-creative way. But since most won't (and shouldn't) consider that enough, here are the full rules.
Sign-Ups and Teams
All players will be organized into quads for this tournament, which will in turn be made up of two doubles teams. Now, there are two ways these quads can be formed. The easiest way, if you have the players available, would be to sign up as a quad. You get into the roster immediately, and we all don't have to do any more work until the start of the tournament. However, some of us, such as my self, just won't have the friends to do that. For us, you can sign up either alone or in a doubles team. If you sign up alone, you will become a member of my lonely hearts club. Once someone else joins, I will pair you together as a doubles team. If you are put together that way or sign up in a doubles team, you will join the doubles club. Once two teams are in there together, they will be merged into one quad and be added to the roster.
The tournament will ultimately have 24 players in it, forming 6 quad teams.
Note 1: If you are still in the doubles or lonely hearts clubs and the final spot on the roster fills, you will become a reserve. End of conversation.
Note 2: While you team is critical to reaching the end of the tournament, only one player will be awarded the win. Read the rest of the rules and choose you teammates wisely.
Note 3: If you sign up as a quad, I will be asking you how you want to split up into teams of two. However, you can make my life easier by putting in your sign up post.
Note 4: If you want to name your quad, knock yourself out. Otherwise, I will name you Quad A, Quad B, etc.
The Regular Season
The regular season of the tournament will be made up of 12 rounds. Rounds 1, 4, 7, and 10 will all be four player singles matches. Rounds 2, 5, 8, and 11 will be 3 team doubles matches. In the above rounds, competing parties will never be from the same quad. Rounds 3, 6, 9, and 12 will be 2 team quad matches.
For each round, points will be awarded to each player/team playing. For singles matches, 4 points will be awarded to first place, 3 points will be awarded to second place, 2 points will be awarded to third place, and 1 point will be awarded to fourth place. For doubles matches, 8 points will be awarded to first place, 5 points will be awarded to second place, and 2 points will be awarded to third place. For quad matches, 16 points will be awarded to first place, and 4 points will be awarded to second place. All points will be accredited towards a quad total, not an individual total, so these numbers even out.
Final Bracket
Following the regular season, the top four quads will advance to the a 3 round final bracket. For the quarterfinals, 2 quad matches will takes place, with seed 1 vs. seed 4 and seed 2 vs. seed 3. The two winning quads will then advance and be split into their two doubles teams. For the semifinals, 2 doubles matches will be played, with pair 1 from quad 1 vs. pair 1 from quad 2 and pair 2 from quad 1 vs. pair 2 from quad 2. The two winning teams will then advance and be split apart completely. For the finals, the 4 remaining players will play one final 4 player singles match. The winner of that match will be crowned the winner of this tournament.
Game Settings
The following settings will be used throughout the tournament:
- Automatic Initial Troops
- Sequential Play Order
- Flat Rate Spoils
- Unlimited Reinforcements
- No Fog of War
- No Round Limit
- 24 Hour Round Length
All maps used will be similar to Risk's board, but different maps will be used for each type of match due to the number of players. The following matches will be used:
- Singles - Classic
- Doubles - Land and Sea
- Quads - World 2.1
Dropouts and Reserves
On the chance that you do not respond to any of your match invites(I usually send 3 before I give up) and I cannot get in contact with you, you will be eliminated.
In the event that someone on your quad is eliminated, whomever is on the eliminated player's doubles team will get their choice of the reserves that are signed up. This is so that if there is a reserve they know and work well with, they can play along side them. However, if I ask you and you do not respond within 24 hours, you get whoever is on the top of the reserves list.
Freemiums
As is standard with most of my tournaments, freemiums may play under the condition that they keep one slot open for the duration of the tournament.
