Re: 1v1 Conqueror of the Americas [round 2]
I will be rescuing this tournament.
Okay, for starters, I've quoted eagleblade's initial post verbatim, and added spoiler tags to make it a little more organised. Step 2 will be to figure out if round 1 is complete, and to post scores as required. Step 3 will be to start sending out Round 2 games. I'm hoping to get this done fairly quickly.
Edit: Looks like round 2 was mostly complete, although completely undocumented. I'll be doing some clean-up of the scoring, and we may be into round 3 sooner than expected.
At this point begins my work. Below are the five rounds, with scores entered for the ones that are complete.
ROUND 1: Round Robin
-there will be 8 groups of 4 players each that will have a round robin
-each player will player another player TWICE
-each country will be asked to choose a home map from the options in each group (messages will be sent out when Part 1 starts)
-first and second players ranked in that group will advance into Part 2
-in an event of a tie there will be ONE tie breaker game played on the map "North America"
-there will be 1 point awarded for winning at a home map and 2 at an away map
GROUP 1
Haiti-cheesefries25 2 pts.
Jamaica-withmejulie 6 pts. ADVANCES
Dominican Republic-Hedronn 7 pts. ADVANCES
Trinidad and Tobago-chidone 4 pts.
they will play on the maps: Haiti, Jamaica, Caribbean, Charleston
GROUP 2
Argentina Pampas-koul 7 pts. ADVANCES
Argentina Buenos Aires-General Bax 5 pts. ADVANCES
Brazil-hammer1967 1 pts.
NBHP-GeneralAnestetic 2 pts.
they will play on the maps: Brazil, Chicago, Quad Cities, San Francisco
GROUP 3
Canada-Fewnixy 4 pts.
Quebec-Marshallbobby 7 pts. ADVANCES
Greenland-blonderic 1 pts.
Bahamas-deanof7 6 pts. ADVANCES
they will play on the maps: Canada, Montreal, Vancouver, Greenland
GROUP 4
18 Colonies of the east-randy pierce 2 pts.
Panama-bearshark3
NYC-richman688 2 pts.
Guatemala-KingDiabl0 2 pts.
Cuba-NCachulo 9 pts. ADVANCES
they will play on the maps: NYC, USA Southeast, USA New England, 13 Colonies
Group 4 is our first problem. NCachulo won the maximum possible of 9 points, and definitely advances. That is indisputable. However, randy pierce, richman688, and KingDiabl0 all won 2 points, so there should have been some kind of tiebreaker, and there is no record of one. For some reason which the original TO has not explained, randy pierce was allowed to advance without any reasoning provided. (Also, I'm somewhat disturbed that there is no record of why bearshark3 was dropped from the tournament. There may have been a reason, such as missing invites, but it should have been posted.) I'm going to write to all 5 of the players in Group 5 and see if they can explain all these discrepancies.
Edit Feb. 20th. I wrote to everyone involved, and nobody could explain to me how the tie was decided. Nobody seemed particularly worried about it, so I have to assume that the tie was settled in some way that was generally acceptable to all, even if nobody bothered recording it. Since randy pierce has already played his round 2 games, it makes sense to just let the result stand as-is.
GROUP 5
United States of the Pacific-Alexlau 3 pts.
Nicaragua-pridekiller 8 pts. ADVANCES
Belize-danervinsucks 2 pts.
Honduras-bernooch 4 pts. ADVANCES
they will play on the maps: USA west, USA Rockies, California, Central America
GROUP 6
Golden States-gimli1990 6 pts. ADVANCES
Chile-harvmax 5 pts. ADVANCES
Tijuana-Krissan 4 pts.
Mexico-chapcrap 1 pts.
they will play on the maps: USA Great Lakes, Mexico, Operation Drug War, Pearl Harbour
GROUP 7
Spanish Bloc-eagleblade22 5 pts. ADVANCES
Uraguay-Steelfoot 4 pts.
Columbia-ianphull 4 pts.
Steelfoot and ianphull both having 4 pts., there was a proper tiebreaker and Steelfoot ADVANCES
Bolivia-rmjw10 2 pts.
they will play on the maps: USA Southwest, The Dust Bowl, Texas Wars, Route 66
GROUP 8
Peru-marcayuq 3 pts.
Equador-generalhead 6 pts. ADVANCES
Paraguay-Jinks 8 pts. ADVANCES
United Guyanas-fmdm03 2 pts.
they will play on the maps: Galapagos Treasures, US Senate, USApocalypse, Triple Alliance
And that's it for round 1! We have a potential problem with Group 4; other than that everything seems to have been done correctly. The original organiser's problems seem to be more in the realm of slovenly record-keeping rather than any more serious mismanagement.

ROUND 2: Round of 16
We are ready to start round 3. The tournament doesn't say how game options were chosen. It seems people chose their setting on their home map, but how were they chosen on the neutral maps?
I've decided on the following system: If both players choose the same spoils on their home map, then the neutral map will also have those spoils, but if they choose different options, then the neutral map will have a third option that is neither of theirs. For instance, if both players choose Escalating, then their neutral map will also be Escalating, but if one chooses Escalating and the other chooses No Spoils, then their neutral map will be Nuclear, and so on.
My only remaining problem is what to do about the Sun/Fog conflicts, since there is no third option there. To decide, I'm going to Game Finder and see what most people on the site prefer:
USA 142414 sun, 15852 fog
FN North 7318 sun, 4629 fog
New World 39384 sun, 75140 fog
Clearly, by large margins, people prefer to play New World foggy and the other two sunny.

Montreal NS-U-S Game 10648285

New World E-C-F Game 10648304

Settings chosen as explained here.
As it turns out, both players in each pairing agree on spoils and reinforcements, but disagree on fog. Using the same method as in Round 3, I used game finder to find that CC player generally play USA sunny, by a huge 142600 - 15893 margin.
Marshallbobby 1 vs. eagleblade 2
First Nations Americas NS-U-S Game 10698050
The final will be eagleblade vs. koul. Eagleblade's settings are NS-U-F and koul's are E-C-F, so by the same methodology as we used for round 3 and round 4, the neutral setting will be N-A-F.
Set 1: North America
NS-U-F Game 10770323
E-C-F Game 10770325
N-A-F Game 10770336
Set 2: South America

eagleblade wrote:
Years of Economic crisis shattered the Americas forcing the increase of taxes that eventually began causing civil unrest. Finally Argentina revolts and the central government manages to only hold the capital, then brazil follows but the rebels flee into the amazon rainforest. After the rebellions of South America Quebec separates. This is the spark for massive civil unrest in the most powerful government in the world USA, a major protest starts in L.A that spreads throughout the west coast. To make matters worse a drought happens and the central states reject to give any surviving crops to anyone. Already pumped up on the protest the central government of the US overreacts and sends in the military to forcefully take the crops. Soon all of the Americas is out of control....

USA 142414 sun, 15852 fog
FN North 7318 sun, 4629 fog
New World 39384 sun, 75140 fog
Clearly, by large margins, people prefer to play New World foggy and the other two sunny.
Hedronn 1 vs. Marshallbobby 2
Caribbean NS-C-F Game 10648283
Montreal NS-U-S Game 10648285
USA NS-A-S Game 10648288
koul 2 vs. deanof7 1
Chicago E-C-F Game 10648289
Vancouver FR-C-S Game 10648291
FN North NS-C-S Game 10648294
pridekiller 1 vs. eagleblade 2
California FR-C-F Game 10648296
Texan Wars NS-U-F Game 10648297
FN South NUC-A-F Game 10648301
bernooch 0 vs. Jinks 3
USA Rockies E-C-F Game 10648302
Triple Alliance E-C-S Game 10648303
New World E-C-F Game 10648304

Settings chosen as explained here.
As it turns out, both players in each pairing agree on spoils and reinforcements, but disagree on fog. Using the same method as in Round 3, I used game finder to find that CC player generally play USA sunny, by a huge 142600 - 15893 margin.
Marshallbobby 1 vs. eagleblade 2
First Nations Americas NS-U-S Game 10698050
Rail USA NS-U-F Game 10698060
USA NS-U-S Game 10698089
koul 2 vs. Jinks 1
First Nations Americas E-C-F Game 10698051
Rail USA E-C-S Game 10698069
USA E-C-S Game 10698098
-winner of 1 will face winner of 2 in 2 sets of a best of 3, the first set will be on the map North America and the second one the map South America
-in an event of a tie there will be a deciding battle on Doodle Earth
The final will be eagleblade vs. koul. Eagleblade's settings are NS-U-F and koul's are E-C-F, so by the same methodology as we used for round 3 and round 4, the neutral setting will be N-A-F.
Set 1: North America

E-C-F Game 10792708
N-A-F Game 10792709
Re: 1v1 Conqueror of the Americas [Continuing]
All round three games are underway.
Couple of reminders:
1. Scores and standings are in my post immediately above this one. Scroll up or click here.
2. You are allowed to change your home map between rounds. For round three I gave everyone the same home map and setting that they use in rounds one and two, but if you want a different one for round four just post it.

Round 4 will be Marshallbobby vs. Eagleblade and koul vs. Jinks. In round 4 it seems you do not use your home maps at all; the maps are as listed above. However, the tourney post didn't give any guidance as to what settings are to be used, so I'll pause here and PM eagleblade as to what settings he was intending to use at this point. If he doesn't respond within 24 hours I'll just go ahead and make a decision. Either way, round 4 games will be out on Tuesday.

Okay, I've gotten no guidance from the thread on how to choose the settings for the Round 4 games, so I will choose them by the same method as in Round 3, with the player from the first-named group getting his home settings on the first map, and the player from the second-named group getting his settings on the second map.
Games have been created and invitations sent out.
