===============================
[spoiler=public poll phase]Hello Community of Conquer Club!

during the first phase of this contest, 7 mapmakers have produced and submitted a revamped version of the current North America Map.

Now, it's your turn!
We ask to you all to look at the maps listed here below and vote for those you like the most!

You can vote up to 3 maps, but make your choice carefully, once you have voted you can't change it anymore!

Without any further ado, let me show you the maps:

I kindly ask to everyone to preserve the spirit of the competition, so please don't turn it into a popularity contest! We want that the best map advance to the second round, not just the ones drawn by the people who are more known on the forum.

Be aware that the CAs have the privilege to disqualify any maps from the contest if we are informed about a mapmaker that asks for votes via PMs/Wall or posting into private forums/clans.

On the opposite, everyone is free to promote the whole contest in such a way that the submitted maps are kept anonymous.

Thank you :)

===============================

[spoiler=original post]Hello Mapmakers,

It's time for a new competition!!! \:D/

It was September 2006, when the North America Map was quenched, it was the 24th map on ConquerClub.

Much water has passed under the bridge from that moment and now, after more than 60000 games played on it, that map "start to look a bit old".

For this reason, the Cartographers Team is pleased to start this new Foundry REVAMP competition to revamp the GRAPHICS of this map!!!

To take part in the competition you have to produce a graphics version of the map; it's an open competition, any one can enter (yes that means you! ;) ). If you want to enter, you simply have to post your submission to me ([player]thenobodies80[/player]) via PM before the deadline, CC Time: 2012-03-11 18:00:00

Now, before you start to draw your maps, please read the following rules:

  1. This is an anonymous competition; that means no signatures on the map!
  2. No gameplay changes of any sort.
  3. Meet the deadline! If you miss the deadline your image will not be considered for submission.
  4. The map must stay within the STANDARD size limits (WxH) 840x800 (large version) and 630x600 (small version)

Since [player]DublinDoogey[/player], the original mapmaker, has kindly given to us the permission to revamp this map without to set particular limitations, the winning map will be required only to have the original mapmaker name mentioned on it somewhere. O:)

Contest Structure and Voting System
Since we've learned the lesson from the previous contests, the voting system will be different for this one.
The competition will have two rounds.

  • First Round:
    1. I will post in this topic all the maps submitted.
    2. I will run a public poll for 1 week, everyone will be able to vote.
    3. The 3 (or 4) maps that will receive more votes advance to the 2nd Round.

To prevent the usual mess with contests, only the CAs will be able to post in this topic so if anyone has questions or concerns about the contest, please send a pm to me ([player]thenobodies80[/player]). I'll post all the questions/answers in this thread in a new post to use like a sort of FAQ. ;)

  • Second Round:
With the second round things will work in a different way, in fact I'm going to introduce the Jury system concept that could seem a bit complicated, but it's more simple than what it seems.
    1. I will forward via PMs the maps that are advanced to the second turn to 2 different groups of people.
    2. Each group of people will give to each map 2 different votes from 1 (the worst) to 5 (the best).
The first vote will judge the graphics quality of the map, the technical execution of the map.
The second vote will judge the aesthetics of the maps, how the parts work and mesh together.
    3. The first group will be known from the start and it's composed by the Cartographers Assistants (except myself) and Andy Dufresne.
    4. The second group will be secret and the names of the components of the jury will be announced only when the voting is done. This group is composed by 20-25 members picked randomly among mapmakers and also other forum users. The members of this group don't know who are the other jurors and I asked to each one of them to keep secret their role, so it will impossible for the participants to know who are in the jury and try to bribe them. ;)
    5. Each map will receive the same amount of votes. A mapmaker or a CA can be part of the jury, even if he takes part to the contest; if the map will reach the second turn of voting, I will vote for his map (to keep the same number of votes for everyone).
    6. In case 2 or more maps will have the same score at the completion of the voting session, I'll ask to a "special guest" to judge the maps.
For the entire duration of the competition I'll be the only one that knows who submitted the maps, who are the jurors and the votes given to each map so no one can be influenced or scared during the vote.

The Prizes
Now that the contest structure and the voting system are clear, let me list the GREAT PRIZES we have in this contest:

  • All mapmakers that will produce a map that advance to the second round will receive a General Achievement Medal
  • The winner of the contest will receive:
    - 1 General Achievement Medal
    - 6 Months of Premium Membership
    - 1 Free Spot for the Next Conquer Cup

Note: The winning map will have a dedicated topic in the Final Forge and it will be uploaded only after a final public review. From that moment the map will be considered like any other map in the Foundry System, in terms of standards, requirements, premium contributions and medals. So when uploaded the mapmaker will receive 1 year of premium membership provided by lackattack and, upon quenching, a mapmaking medal.

That's all , good luck to everyone :)

FAQ

- Do we have to submit both images (large & small)?
No, you have to submit just one image, up to you if develop the big or the small (or both).

- Is it ok to change territory names (for accuracy) as long as the connections etc. stay the same?
Yes, placement of army circles (if applicable), territory names and bonus names can be changed as long as the current gameplay remains the same.
It means that connections, borders, impassables, bonus values etc etc can not be changed.

- Images have to contain 88 numbers on the army circles with colours randomly distributed?
No, numbers on the map are not mandatory.
Up to you if you want to add them to ensure that colors you used are ok. In any case the winning map will be checked and if some troops are not clearly visible it will be asked to the mapmaker to change the colors.

It seems that some people has problems to finish the map in just 2 weeks, since I didn't give a prior notice.

For this reason I'm going to extend this contest to a total of 3 weeks.

The new deadline is CC Time: 2012-03-11 18:00:00

I've updated also the first post. ;)

Just few hours left before the deadline. 8-[

Submit your map before the deadline, or it won't be considered for submission. Remember that your map has not to be perfect for now and that it can be improved later, after the first public poll, so if you are missing just some details, do not be afraid and send me the PM! ;)

The eventual winner will have to sort any problems that are spotted when the contest part is over. Tweaking of colours is easy enough.

I agree should be easy to fix. With that said will changing the colors of some of these maps change the look of them overall?

I have guessed 3 of them. Will be good to see if we are right when we get to see the authors at the end.

Funny how one of the maps now has more votes then the two leader from the last contest. And we are only 2 days into the vote.

While an good natured shout out isn't really a bad thing... but while there is judging going on for the finals of said competition this could be used in an improper way to sway votes or unintentionally leak who author which revamp.

[Merged] with the other North America Revamp Topic.

I'll unlock this thread when I've received all the votes from jurors. As soon as no one can be influenced anymore, you can discuss the contest and the submitted maps and say what you want! ;)
Thanks in advance for the collaboration.

Just to keep you all in the loop of things, I'm still waiting for a response from a couple of jurors.
If I don't receive a pm from them in the next few hours, I will proceed further.

So, expect to know what is the winning map/the winning mapmaker very soon! :D

Post by thenobodies80 »

Hello CC,

the jurors have submitted their votes. After counting, checking (and double check) them it's a pleasure for me to announce that we have a winner!

With a total of 120 points and 150 points, the third and the second classified are respectively [player]CJ Lues[/player] (MAP A) and [player]BrucesWar[/player] (MAP B)

Both them will receive a Image General Achievement Medal for reaching the 2nd stage of this contest

And with a incredible total of 214 points, that is a confirmation of the previous public poll, the WINNING MAP of this revamp contest is:

MAP C by [player]NATTY DREAD[/player]

Let me show once again the map:

Image

natty dread will receive a Image General Achievement Medal, 6 months of Premium Membership and 1 Free spot in the next Conquer Cup for winning this contest! =D>

natty dread, feel free to start your map topic, one of the mods will move it to the Final Forge asap!

I would take the occasion to thank the jurors group, the CAs and AndyDufresne for their help.
A big thank you goes to all the mapmakers who have submitted their maps in this contest: [player]bruceswar[/player], [player]CJ Lues[/player], [player]DiM[/player], [player]natty dread[/player], [player]noddaclue[/player], [player]samuelc812[/player] and [player]Tisha[/player].
Finally, I would like to thank all those who expressed their opinion during the poll phase, I was very happy to see a so great partecipation of the CC Community to the Foundry Life!
