Legalizing weed

Post by luns101 »

Actually, this subject has already been covered. You probably weren't a member yet. I voted no for the legalization of the hippie lettuce.

well see i dont care if they legalize it the problem is i think people will abuse it
what they should do is make it legal but set some laws on it
from my point of view if they dont make weed legal then why make alchol legal? they both pretty much do the same thing

trying to be objective about this...

yes.

Cut crime, decriminalise millions of people... reduce pressure on our police forces and justice systems, freeing them up to go after proper crims.

Nicotine and alcohol are legal and they are bona fide social evils. Pot is not.

And it would make the good shit easier to get hold of.

And to preempt the christian angle : 'Christ' means anointed one. The recipe for 'chrism', anointing oil, in exodus includes quite a lot of 'fragrant cane' - translated from the hebrew 'kaneh-bos'. QUiote enough to get teh anointee very high, by all accounts. Jesus was a stoner

Well that's fucking messed up.
I can enjoy my live without having to sink so low to smoke or use any drugs.
Jail or a good, drug free live?

I choose a drug free live.

For all of you dumbasses who use drugs to 'relax', thrown on some classical music, sit back, and let the mind wonder. Not every person who makes a difference on this earth took/takes drugs.

People will abuse it whether its legal or not.
Its not like right now its hard to get.

And people abusing alcohol are much more dangerous to society than those abusing marijuana.

Assuming you are 17 - 18 years old now...I hope you wait a little longer than that. Give yourself some time to go out and have some fun, hopefully without the weed.

The reason why alcohol and tobacco are legal, is because the government can't make them illegal. By doing so they would be millions of people out of business. Since marijuana was deemed illegal a lot earlier in US history is was easier to do so, without harming the economy.

I think marijuana, tobacco, and some alcoholic substances should be illegal, but it just never will happen.

they actually did ban alchol at one point in the USA but bootlegging and crime went skyrocketing (wonder why)
but now since people are doing weed so much, things are starting to fall apart, they may legalize weed here sooner than you think

From a relativist stance, it's a no brainer.
a] look at all the harsher, legal drugs on the market (alcohol? tobacco?)
b] prohibition doesn't work. at least, I don't know of an instance when it has. in fact, it's illegality only increases the 'outlaw' factor.
c]making it a legal, taxable source of revenues wouldn't (although that stat about being the #1 american revenue is source is incredibly skewed. i can't see it being more valuable than most things if it were legalized, it's value is derived from its status as a controlled substance
d] the only person a stoner hurts is him/herself. in fact, it makes people LESS agressive. please explain how this hurts society.
all in all, i see no ethical reason why marijuana should be illegal.

Legalizing marijuana would greatly decrease the crime rate & boost the economy. If you want to argue about this bring it on because this is what won me my class presidency & I have all the facts
