Looking good! As a native of Jefferson County, former resident of Lucas County, and current resident of Erie County, I am looking forward to playing this map. It likely will not appeal to those unfamiliar with the great state, though...
If you are going to keep the regions separate with only a few links betwen them, you may consider linking Erie and Ottawa counties - as the Edison Bridge crosses the bay between them; but it would also be fine if you left them unattached.

I'm glad someone new is trying Narnia. That being said, I don't like your 1st try very much.
1. It's too cartoony, and it does not feel at all like Narnia. Perhaps some more muted colors, and some images as was mentioned. The 3rd & 4th maps you link to are fantastic. I would try to capture their feel as much as possible
2. It's too wide, and not tall enough. Think of the journey from "The horse and his boy" on your map. It's almost due west the whole way, not north. I would say, don't feel like you have to use ever square inch of the map, allow the map to be loyal to what it is supposed to be: Narnia. Don't feel an obligation to cram every geographic feature from every book in.
3. The lines seem forced and straight, which is normal for an abstract map, but awkward on a geographic one. Try to create a natural feel like you would see on an actual map, rather than territories with 3-5 straight lines as borders.
4. Your names need more creativity. the Lamp post is a territory, but so is the lantern waste.

So, I looked into the geography of Ohio, and man is it boring. Pretty much a totally flat state. It has rivers, but those go through the middle of counties and can't really be used to provide impassible borders. So I definitely think the USA map style "break apart" is the best solution here.
You biggest problem right now is the number of territories in each region. Any region with more than 9 territories cannot be taken and held in normal circumstances. That's not to say having one of these wouldn't have its place, but 7 out of your 8 regions are well over 9 territories. Imagine if the Classic map was 7 Asias and one N. America.
So you really need to split all of these regions but the white one in half. Whatever you were going to name them, you can just call them N. [region name] and S. [region name]. In fact, you can give an extra bonus for holding both halves of the same region, sort of a World 2.1 thing, which would also mean you can use similar colors for N. and S. (you can probably imagine how hard it is to find more than 10 very distinctive colors).
Just remember when you're splitting the regions that they don't all need to be exactly even, a 5 and a 7 is just as good as two 6s. So do whatever you think is the best division.

I agree with this. A world 2.1 style split on many of these regions wouldn't be a bad idea at all.

Thank you! THIS is what I mean when I'mbeing negative. I like the IDEA, but the graphics suck, the borders are squares, and the names of the countries aren't creative enough. THAT'S why I look like such a prick; I don't bothe to write out super long posts.
I currently dont find this map very interesting...you need something to seperate it, to give it something that makes it stand out...
make it less ohio if you will....
make it less ohio if you will....
my new site - http://www.spritestitch.com/ - A video game craft weblog...
keyogi hit this right on...While I realise this is only your first draft, it would be nice if you could try and capture the feel of Narnia
simply having a map with the names of areas from narnia is just not enough...I think the map needs to feel more like the hand drawn type maps you see in books, and less like a computer drawn map...

I completely disagree, the site needs more real world maps, not everything has to be abstract.

are the different colors of the same colors the same bonus or are they different bonuses?
and the names are hard to read.
the different colors are different bonuses. you can own dark blue and get a bonus of...lets say 3. or you could own all of light blue and get a bonus of maybe 4, but if you own ALL of blue, dark and light, you might get a bonus of 8.
its a world 2.1 kind of thing.
i know the names are hard to read, but that wont be the final size of the map. and ill probably end up making the names clearer.
patt wrote:does anyone have any ideas about how much bonus armies each region should be worth?
This is actually usually much easier. The problem you have is that the individual sub-regions are worth more than the whole regions because they have way more defense points. For instance, W. Red and E. Red have 4 and 5 defense points respectively, but if you owned all of Red you would only have 2. The bonus formula winds up giving 4 for W. Red, 4 for E. Red, and 4 for all of Red. Obviously this can't be right, you should get more for having both than just the two individually.
I think we need to give less for the sub-regions than they would normally warrant, and more for the full regions. This actually works out better because there are 15 sub-regions. Currently the max number of players is 6, so you should be able to take at least one of the sub-regions out of sheer numbers. Taking a full region takes so long that other players more or less "had their chance" to stop it from happening.
So we're kind of in new territory here. I'll try to figure what I think they should be, and I'm sure others will have their opinions, but in the end you might need to either take a poll or decide for yourself what you think they should be.
patt wrote:I'm also thinking that Cuyahoga, Franklin, and Hamilton should get a plus one bonus because those are where the three major cities Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati are located, respectively.
I'm a rather outspoken opponent of single territory bonuses. I feel taking and holding a region signifies your ability to capture a specified collection of territories, and your opponents' failure to stop you. Single territory bonuses are more about whoever happens to start on them or be on them at the time. The first is a skillful conquest, the second is a lucky break. Others seem to think they're great, but not me.
interested
I really like this idea, but I don't have the time or the skill to make it go ahead. Someone should pick it up.

I'm 206 as well and don't like the idea of using all these chain stores.
Even though these companies started there, most Burroughs North of downtown have building codes that are set into place to keep chain stores from opening there so I think that having all these stores would be a bad representation of the city as unlike California, Seattle is not a giant strip mall and shouldn't be portrayed that way.
I brought up the idea of doing a Seattle map some time ago and this was my post.
SEATTLE MAP
Like New York and San Francisco, Seattle is broken up into a handful of Burroughs/Districts. With the Puget Sound and Lake Union right in the middle of it, it makes for as good of a City Map as the San Francisco Map that is being worked on right now.
Seattle Burroughs
Capital Hill
Queen Anne
Fremont
Ballard
U-District
Belltown
Magnolia
Wallingford
West Seattle
Madrona
Green Lake
Montlake
Pioneer Square
Beacon hill
Mt. Baker
International District
SoDo (South Downtown)
Crown Hill
Shoreline
Interbay
Phinney Ridge
Loyal Heights
Ravenna
You can use the fairies and bridges to get to Bainbridge Island and Bremerton
I think the fact that Seattle has all of these Burroughs, makes it painfully obvious that this is how the map should be split up. You can incorporate bridges too perfectly.
People from Seattle have a lot of pride in their city so if you are down for making a Seattle map, I applaud you, but you are gonna have a lot of locals like myself with a lot of opinions who want to see their city represented right

is is looking better.
however i think u should:
1. some of the coulers are off. the 2 tones or red and orange are too similar.
2. put a thick boarder throught the 2 part you've seperated and maby change the color of the country boarders
3. Also need to put ledgends and a title in to acctually kick start the map
4. the white continent need at least one more boarder

Ohio Appellate Districts
As a continent alternative, the link below shows the breakdown of the twelve Ohio appellate districts. Although Hamilton, Cuyahoga, and Franklin each comprise a single district. What if those three counties were made to be a tri-county disjoined continent of their own?
Just a thought -- as an Ohio attorney. But if the present continent breakdown is preferred, I have no objections.
The districts aren't necessarily drawn equally, but it might make for interesting gameplay and would provide for ten continents if HamCuyFrank were combined. I like the idea of unequal continent sizes.
