Revealing Roles
When mafia is played in RL the dead people can see who everyone is at night. That got me thinking.
I would like to know who everyone is when I die. It makes it more interesting to continue watching the game and provides a good learning opportunity.
What do you guys think of revealing roles to those who are dead?
Possible downside: dead people can not come back as a replacement.

Seems dangerous in the online world... what's to stop dead player from PMing roles to other players.... who'd know?
I think it's worth the wait, anyway.

There's the subject of integrity. I've found that if you don't plan to replace, if you PM the mod they have no problem telling you.

Really though everyone could just cheat anyway. I hope this does not happen in games but really it could.
I think revealing the roles would just have the same amount of trust involved as playing the game.
I wouldn't like this though. I like to follow the game when I die and try to figure it out still.

I agree with dazza's response to that. I think that anyone could screw the game up if they wanted.

I guess I hadn't really thought about that. I'll probably do that from now on. I would love to know everyone's role once I'm eliminated. Makes it much more entertaining I think.

Still not worth the risk. Besides, it robs the moderator of the sociopathic joy of watching everyone run around in a maze confused out of their skulls while watching and knowing every detail. Who would give that up?

I've done that with Commander (I got the Unkown Mafia excel file and he got the FFVII excel file). I think it's not a problem if you trust the person you are dealing with.

Excel files? My, you kids sure have all these new fancy gadgets now. Whatever happened to pen and notebook paper, and the roles decided by a deck of cards?

I decide what person gets what roles by names in hats.

How many names per hat?

I think he shakes up the names in his hand and drops each one into a hat labeled with a role, so it's 1:1.
I use random.org, fwiw.

I wonder how random random.org can be when it picks 7 eight times in a row.

The list randomizer works just fine.

Note to self: random number generated games, 3 double voting lynch stoppers, and a couple of simultaneous serial-killing bodygaurds, what could go wrong?
Also, to stay on topic, I've been asked before a couple of times, and I trust well enough none of us would want to win that way. I don't mind, but I don't think I would want to know personally if I continued to follow the thread, it may be a bit frustrating, like watching a cheesy horror movie and rooting for the victims.

Re: Revealing Roles
I personally love knowing all the roles in the game. I think it is more fun to follow and see others thought processes. I have even thought of kinda quitting playing games, and only hosting since I found it to be so much fun, but then again I do need to learn about some of the new inventive roles that are being come up with at times.

Re: Revealing Roles
Yeah, if people die and want to know some roles, I have no problem telling them. Especially if they're ineligible to replace people due to night action knowledge or something.

How is it different from modding a game and knowing the roles?

the mod can cheer for any side, or stay unbiased completely, the dead are already assigned "friends" or "enemies". Actually, now that I think about it, when I was asked, I'm pretty sure it was mostly requests from third party roles who had no faction left.

I always root for the Sk. Even when I'm playing the game.
