We begin on perhaps a reckless, unprecedented journey no human on our planet dares to experience. A path of which our destination is unknown. Will the next global conflict mean a nuclear catastrophe? Or could limited nuclear warfare and conventional war prevail? What will drive World War III?
Our trip is unscripted. It's up to the players to write the plot, step by step!Welcome to World War III!I'd just like to go over the format for the tournament real quickly. Please follow along, or risk getting caught in a crossfire!
The tourney is divided into 8 phases, 8 battles, 8 significant events so to speak, in our hypothetical World War III plot.
Each of you can contribute to this storyline by writing the script for a battle, in other words presenting a BRIEF scenario (around 5 sentences, maybe a short paragraph) with 2 distinguished sides, 1 fighting for the Alliance and 1 for the Confederation, and the maps and settings all games will be played on.If you have an idea for our first battle, write up real quick and post it on the tournament page: Link to the Tournament Page: Click this for ALL detailsviewtopic.php?f=91&t=159969&p=3503283#p3503283Writing the Script of World War IIIWhy should you bother? Well, for one, you have the chance to choose the map for the round, based on the geographic location of the battle. Also, whoever has the most battle ideas voted into the tournament will earn a General Achievement Medal (the NOSTRADAMUS Award

)
Example:
The year is 2021. Russia and China have been over-run by more aggressive, Marxist-Leninist ultra-nationalist regimes and have formed an alliance championing primarily the tenets of the Alliance for World Opportunity.
Meanwhile, just the opposite has occurred in the U.S. dominated by newly-elected ultra-isolationists vowing retraction from world events to avoid a possibility of World War III, despite fierce opposition. They champion, primarily, Confederation of Common Sense ideals.
But when a routine U.S. patrol in international waters comes in conflict with Iranians, they clash in disputed territory. Wanting to avoid war, the U.S. is caught off guard, and Iran crushes U.S. presence by conventional means. Iran quickly sides with Russia and China (the Alliance) on the grounds of its right to self-determination and independence from Western, foreign influence.
The U.S. then fabricates intelligence that Iran has a nuke to garner allies, namely Australia, Japan (non-offensive support), Canada, and the U.K.
World War III is underway!
Map: Middle East
Settings: Escalating, Unlimited, Sunny.
U.S.A. (Confederation) vs. Iran (Alliance)
Note that this script is a bit long because it's the first battle and would presumably require more background details.
You are encouraged to build and develop off of previous ideas presented, though it's not required!Whichever scenario that receives the most votes from all 70 players will be accepted and added to the growing script.
I'm really hoping some of you try and contribute. Put your own ideas out there.
How Should I go about Writing?I suspect it will be hardest to come up with 2 sides who match the descriptions of the Alliance and Confederation. Those descriptions were meant to be VERY vague so that, so long as you have the most votes, anything will fly, so to speak.
For instance, you could justify a country or organization to join the Alliance out of a desire for self-determination rather than because of ideological, economic reasons. Likewise, an organization could be part of the Confederation because of its preference for anarchy, no-government, rather than its tendency to capitalism.
You could keep it simple by just having predominantly capitalist countries on one side, and historically communist, more left, socialist countries on the other. Of course, the world cannot be divided so equally, and I think that's the beauty of our script, you can make anything happen so long as you present it well.
And I'm no International Studies or Political Science major so I want to see what all you genius gurus out there come up with!
The two sides are INTENDED to overlap so that anyone can justify one country siding with one side or the other. This is indeed often how it is in war, as it's a common fallacy to note that World War II was a triumph for an alliance founded on democracy, when in fact the Soviet Union, the most brutal and harsh dictatorships of modern time, was victorious as well.
I hope to see your submissions soon! You have a good week to do them, remember of course they're not mandatory, but I hope to see a couple for you all to choose from.
Thanks so much, and have a great day,
James
Remember, it's worth your time to contribute because whoever has the most submissions (battle ideas) voted into the script will receive a General Achievement medal!Post your submissions within 7 days, here:
