Problem with Freestyle games with 2 players

I am currently playing a freestyle game in that initially had 5 players. The game is now down to me and one other player who doesn't take all of his turns.

At the beginning of the last round, I could not take my turn until he did since I was the last to play in the previous round. 24 hours elapsed without him taking his turn and both of us took a penalty for missing the turn, which is pretty obnoxious. I have been trying to keep a perfect attendance rating, but situation has ruined that.

Is there any way to prevent this kind of stuff from happening, aside from going to sequential games? Thanks to anybody who can help.

You should have been able to take the turn after only 12 hrs elapsing.

you should be able to start your turn after 12 hours even if your opponent hasn't played.

Drop everything for 12 hours, and wait till the other hits begin.
