gimil, the only thing i'll say that i see as disadvantageous for this group, is that it disperses engergies away from the foundry at large into the consortium thread.
Is it not possible to bring this consirtium back under the guise of the foundry proper?

If you are interested in trying to make a map yourself, a good first step can simply be familiarizing yourself with the Map Foundry. Pick a couple of maps currently in development that strike your interest, and follow them for a couple of weeks and watch the process of feedback and mapmaker updates, and contribute some of your own feedback to those maps as well.
