For all you Greasemonkey/Chrome people out there - I created a little userscript for this tournament. Currently all it does is it adds a little tag next to any coach's name indicating what school they are coaching. It only works with player links, so just a typed out name won't do the trick. Still, though, kind of handy to see at a glance who is coaching what.

So, for example, whenever my name link shows up on a page, instead of seeing "dwilhelmi", I see "dwilhelmi [LaSalle]".

If there is enough interest, I may add an actual post for this script in the Tools forum, if not then I won't worry about it. For now, if you want to install it, here is the link: http://userscripts.org/scripts/source/118443.user.js

I may also develop it further later on. For example, I had thought of adding the coaches current season win percentage in the tag as well, so you would see something like "dwilhelmi [LaSalle - 0.985]". This would also give you an indicator of where you are at in regards to the .500 target for keeping your school for next season. Again, probably pending the level of interest this gets.

Thanks to flex for organizing the tournament, and for supplying me with the information I needed to get this script completed.

yes, commander, I am hoping to have final schedules posted by early next week.

I'm also considering lowering the requirement to retain your school...thinking something like 10-12 win range, so that those teams who are really struggling still have a reason to play (besides you are always alive if you can win your conference tourney at the end of the year). Also this doesn't punish a coach who goes a respectable 14-16 or something like that.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs pulled off a win against the Akron Zips in their first game of the 2K Sports Classic. Starting the year ranked #36 Coach Dub is looking to build on the success of last season and is happy with his team's performance in New York.
Coach Dub was happy to hear the cowbells ringing at the end of the game from the Mississippi St supports in attendance.
The only worry was that the mascot Bully tried to get a little too friendly with the Zips female mascot Zippy. Dub promises to keep Bully on a shorter leash next game and is glad there are only a few female mascots in college sports.

For a less than stellar program I agree. For a powerhouse, mmmm. It deserves thought. Perhaps something like 2 or 3 losing seasons in a row and the coach is out.

I know your goal is to try to maintain interest, but I think a less than .500 coach should be worried about keeping his team. You already have a tournament structure to ensure interest. If you drop the requirement too low, you risk losing the interest of middling programs who are secure in reaching .333 or whatever the new requirement is, but have lost hopes of winning their conference.

I'd rather see coaches of .100 teams lose interest than those of middle-ranked teams.

Interesting point to consider. I think it's worth noting that Flex won't be kicking anyone out of the tournament - It's just a requirement for keeping specific teams, particularly the powerhouse teams. But I really like your point and it is worth considering as I said.

Cool! I did it. It says the team next to the name in forums and in the game listings. It'll be fun to get more of an idea of who's who!

LMU starts the year off with 3 quick wins in their tournament.

Do we need to report wins/losses to this thread?

Also working on getting the Game 3 set out...probably later tonight.

Coach Ricrem could only fume following his team's season opening loss to Washington by a score of 81-65. To say UVM started the game slowly, is an understatement, falling behind the Huskies by a score of 32-16 only minutes into the game. "We had some trouble getting off the bus, and didn't have enough time to warm up during shoot around." It certainly looked that way as the Huskies raced to a 20-0 lead after 5 minutes of action.

After a timeout though, UVM's sharpshooters were able to get going and rallied all the way back to tie the score at 48 with 10 minutes left in the game. However, the effort required to bring UVM all the way back was too much, and UW seized control down the stretch to pull out the W.

"Obviously I would have liked to start the season better, but I was happy with the effort our team put forth today. Hopefully next time our bus driver won't 'accidently' lock us on the bus while he goes and plays craps at the casino that is hosting the tourney."

After suffering an opening loss in on their season opener, the Columbia Lions woke up and returned to their "dance" form. Not only winning their second game of the season, but winning a nail bitter against the #1 Yellow Jackets. Columbia looks to stay in top form for the rest of the season and make a solid run at the Championship.

Final Score: 79-69 Lions!

Maybe the Butler Bulldogs will capitalize on that result and take the number one ranking :D

Game 3s are now officially out...if you haven't received a set labeled "Game 3" it's because you are part of an early-season tournament, and I'm waiting for an opponent to be decided.

Hey Flex,
I'm part of an early-season tournament but my game 3 is with a team that is not in it. What's up with that?
Cheers, rob
