Re: College Football 2011
North Texas Mean Green got their first win yesterday at Indiana.
TOP RANKED TEAMS ALL ROLLED
Arkansas and West Virginia showed they had enough talent to beat top ranked teams yesterday and both failed miserably. Oklamoma State was down 20-3 at the half in College Station and came back to beat Tex A&M 30-29. #21Clemson held on to beat #11Florida State, Arizona State upset #23USC and Western Michigan gave #24Illinois a scare.
Georgia looked good yesterday in Mississippi
and might be ranked again in the near future.
Wyoming hung in there for a bit against Nebraska
before the wheels popped off the wagon.

Re: College Football 2011
Wisconsin gave Nebraska a rude welcome to the Big Ten. Baylor's offensive line gives way and Kansas State wins on a late field goal, while Texas A&M scores 5 rushing TDs in the first half only to fade in the second half on consecutive weeks and lose another close one to Arkansas. LSU & Bama roll and Auburn's upset of South Carolina puts Georgia back in the SEC East hunt.
Lots of ranked team loses including #14 South Florida getting run over by the Pitt Panthers 44-17.
SMU upsets TCU after the Horned Frogs outscored the Mustangs 23-6 to force overtime. Down 3 TDs at the half, Navy made great plays to comeback against Air Force only to lose in OT with a failed extra point conversion.
Next weekend: LSU/Florida and Oklahoma/Texas

#1 LSU is living right... 21-3 over Auburn at the half
and all 3 TDs came after penalties extended drives.

#6 Wisconsin @ #16 Michigan State fails to disappoint as it all comes down to a last second Hail Mary subsequently batted around before being caught by Michigan State short of the goal line with the game looking like it's heading to overtime before the review overturns the call on the field Touch down Michigan State 37-31.
Also Oklahoma may be in trouble as they trail TTU 24-7 at half.

Boise State struggled with Air Force and Arkansas squeaked past Ole Miss. Upsets: five ranked teams fall. Texas Tech beats Oklahoma, Michigan State beats Wisconsin Miami beats Georgia Tech, Syracuse beats West Virginia and Purdue beats Illinois.
It's like NCAA Playoffs have begun. #1 LSU vs #2 Alabama in two weeks and Oklahoma vs Oklahoma State will come later. I expect both Stanford and Clemson to jump Boise State eventually and Kansas State and Houston are now 7-0 too.

That wouldn't surprise me at all... but Alabama, Oklahoma State and Clemson
still have something to say about that.
ESPN's Power Rankings

3 Oklahoma State (7-0)

Re: College Football: Week 9
Lots of big games this weekend, #1 LSU vs #2 Alabama is a week away.
Baylor @ #3 Oklahoma State
#5 Clemson @ Georgia Tech
#6 Stanford @ USC
#9 Oklahoma @ #8 Kansas State
#10 Arkansas @ Vanderbilt
#11 Michigan State @ #14 Nebraska
#13 South Carolina @ Tennessee
#15 Wisconsin @ Ohio State
Missouri @ #16 Texas A&M
Purdue @ #18 Michigan
#22 Georgia @ Florida
#25 West Virginia @ Rutgers
I think Boise State should consider the Big 12 before the Big East if they are looking for a new conference. Although it makes more sense for all schools to be part of conferences centered in their region, TCU joining the Big East just feels peculiar.
Baylor has nearly 300 Yards offense/19 First downs and 57 plays/20 Mins. possession
and trails Oklahoma State 35-0 at the half.

Re: College Football 2011
We can't beat a team that can't throw and we can't defend against a long pass at the end of a game...UW sucks this year...
Other observations. within the Big Ten it makes a hell of a difference being at home.

Re: College Football 2011
That's true everywhere in college football, the home field advantage is bigger than in other sports.
Re: College Football 2011
Home field was huge yesterday as Clemson and Kansas State fall while
Wisconsin got bombed for the second week in a row. South Carolina
was fortunate to escape with a Vandy fumble at the Gamecock's three
being returned for a TD and a final FG hit the uprights.
Stanford squeezed past once beaten USC in triple overtime to end a
weekend of great college games.

Tell that to Nebraska, whose rude welcome to the conference continued with a visit from Northwestern. Ohio State also had them on the ropes in Lincoln before losing
their starting QB in that game and the Cornhuskers making a comeback.
Week 11 and the BCS Rankings shuffled a little...
1 LSU 9-0
2 Oklahoma State 9-0
3 Alabama 8-1
4 Stanford 9-0
5 Boise State 8-0
6 Oklahoma 8-1
7 Oregon 8-1
8 Arkansas 8-1
9 Clemson 8-1
10 Virginia Tech 8-1
11 Houston 9-0
12 Penn State 8-1
13 South Carolina 7-2
14 Kansas State 7-2
15 Georgia 7-2
The unofficial NCAA playoffs for Bowling positions has some great games remaining.
LSU/Arkansas, Oklahoma State/Oklahoma, Stanford/Oregon, Clemson/Virginia Tech,
Georgia/Auburn and Boise State's final challenge when they host TCU.
I don't see Boise State's strength of schedule getting them into the BCS Title Game
and that's their own doing. They can claim they will play anybody, but until they do
their end of season situation is not going to change. I'd like to see them in the Big 12
Conference, where they could prove their merits on the field.
It's quite possible that Boise State and University of Houston will be the only unblemished
teams when it's all over. If that does occur I don't see them matched up in a Title Game.

I think that the timing of the games is quite important...night games in the Big Ten favor the home team more...don't have stats on it only anecdotal evidence.

Re: College Football 2011
I think Boise State has a chance to get into a BCS Game, simply because they are a big tv and fan draw.
I hope Houston doesn't really make it into a BCS Game...or if they do and Boise State does, that they don't make them play each like TCU-Boise State.

I think both Boise State and Houston have good shots at ending the season
in BCS bowl games, just not the Championship. I'd rather see a one loss
LSU, Alabama, Stanford, Oklahoma/Oklahoma State or Oregon than either
of those teams in the BCS Title Game.

I'm fine with them in BCS, I just don't want to see a cop-out game of them playing each other! More fun overall to see how they match up to Teams that always get lauded.

My sentiments exactly. If they prevail over a powerhouse with a great team in a BCS Bowl
it chums the waters of ranking controversy, like TCU beating Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl.
There is likely never to be another bowl like Boise State slipping past Adrian Peterson
and Oklahoma, but we can always hope. Utah beating Alabama may have surprised a
few football fans, but wasn't quite the same David vs Goliath upset.

Another day for BCS statement games?
#2 Oklahoma State 49 Texas Tech 0 in Lubbock at the half.
South Carolina leads Florida at the half with Auburn/Georgia later
and on the left coast it's Stanford/Oregon tonight.

Re: College Football 2011
Arkansas was jumped by Oregon this week in the BCS Ranks, but that will soon be moot. The Razorback's biggest game of the year is coming November 25th in Baton Rouge.
Oregon plays tonight at Stanford and the Cardinal still has Cal and Notre Dame remaining, while the Ducks will host USC next game. So there's still a lot of football left to be played before anything is truly decided.
West Virginia beat Cincy today and TCU just upset the Broncos 36-35
on the blue turf of Boise, Idaho.
