well, if youve decided to keep the black line on the river make sure it is connected all the way to betuwe. other than that- looks great :)
Do you need an excuse to have a war? I mean, who for? Can't you just say "You got lots of cash and land, but I've got a big sword, so divy up right now, chop chop."

I agree with the above post. Try to soften and blur some of the borders of the various lines on the map, so they aren't so rigid and pixely.

duhh people whine about that a border looks to pixelly while in all current map the blue armies are almost invisible in blue territoy if that aint perfect what are they whining for. it looks so good to so much people, the only people who dont agree are those who are assinged moderator while normal players think it is good!!!!!!!!!

So, here's what the bonus formula comes out to on your regions:

Wadden: 2.08
Noord: 1.83
Midden: 4.58
Holland: 4.83
Utrecht: 2.25
Zeeland: 2.08
Zuid: 3.67

So basically, now that Midden has another territory (making it 7 territories and 4 borders, just like Holland), I think it should be +5.

Both Wadden and Zeeland only have 2 borders and they're in corners, they seem too easy to hold for +3. On the other hand 5 territories with 2 borders seems like it should be worth more than 2 or 3 territories with 2 borders. Not sure what to do here, but I thought I'd mention it.

The bonus formula I use is calculated:

( (Number of territories * 1.5) + (Number of border territories * 4) + (Number of neighboring territories * 0.5) + (Number of neighboring regions * 1) ) / 6

It's a modified version of the formula I totally stole from WM (and for all I know he stole it from someone else). The original multiplies neighboring territories by 1 and neighboring regions by 0.5, but I switched those because I think it's more accurate this way. It tends to compensate for regions being in a corner better, or regions in the middle bordering everyone (but perhaps not necessarily bordering tons of territories).

I think it works pretty good, but it's not the final word or anything. Just something to consider.

Ok thanks Samus. However I think the bonuses are fine as they are because Zuid has three access points while Holland has 4 access points and gameplay wise I think that because of that it deserves to have an extra unit bonus over Zuid.

No, I was thinking Midden should be +5. You're right Zuid is fine at +4.

I just ran that formula on classic and ended up with this:

Code: Select all

o----------o-------o------o
|Continent |Formula|Actual|
o----------o-------o------o
|N. America|   5   |  5   |
|S. America|   2   |  2   |
|Europe    |  5.4  |  5   |
|Africa    |  4.3  |  3   |
|Asia      |  7.5  |  7   |
|Oceania   |  1.9  |  2   |
o----------o-------o------o

If you want an idea of how seriously it should be followed.

Ack! I forgot there's a -1 at the end. It's all done through a spreadsheet so I don't really think about it.

So Classic comes out to:

N. America: 4.00
S. America: 1.83
Europe: 4.67
Africa: 3.42
Asia: 6.67
Oceania: 0.92

Basically the same except N. America and Oceania, which could be argued are too high at +5 and +2. I wouldn't change them, but arguing it isn't crazy talk.

But again, it's not any kind of final authority or anything. It usually helps more when you aren't sure what a bonus should be.

mm interesting but i always think that the bonuses set up the kind of gameplay not designate whether there is good gameplay, within reason. For instance as oceania is theoretically to high it means more people fight over that continent so it makes that interesting. however i understand it is only a guidline
