Sandbox for maps in the forge.

Post by mibi »

I think it might be a good idea to have a period of a week or so where a few people can play test a map thats in final forge or quenched to make sure that the game play isn't wacky before it goes live on the site.

I definitely agree. As map makers are starting to be more and more creative with their gameplay designs, the only way to be sure they're properly balanced and don't have any unexpected quirks is to play them. I would say this should be part of the "Final Forge" process, although you would run into problems with the different updated versions of the map and conflicting with test games in progress. This could potentially be a huge hassle for Lack, but if you only allow each map one "test submission," I think it's okay. So you get one shot to see what it's like, you have to base your changes off of that.

Sounds like a great suggestion...

The implementation may cause some issues - but defs a good suggestion.

Aye it's a good idea. There are some maps that should never have made it out of the foundry. For example, everyone seems to hate Circus Maximus and Crossword and the first reports on Chinese Checkers haven't been too promising. Likewise, I don't particularly like U.S. Senate but I'm beginning to warm to it now.

Good Idea it would mean the rubbish maps who got a low rating would not get through leaving maps like the middle east first edition outside and the betterones such as crossword, indochina etc. free to go through

Hem Hem If people have played on it more than once it's a map worth having actually I don't care if rubbish maps go through I hate ancient greece and find it a strategy hell yet other maps are strategically challenging

We could consider it, but it's something a ways down the road for now.
