Randomly Generated Map

Post by Aqo »

I was yet to come up with a names for the map and its territories; but mainly, this is a map that was generated with a program I wrote.

Territories: 58
Regions: 9

Note: The most eastern territory includes all little islands around it, including the part that touches two territories.

Obviously I would like to hear comments, about the general form, playability, and whatnot.

Good but pointless

Make a few more with your program it might make some good ones to make a scenario.

The story could be your a warrior but your lost you must fight to gain contol over this place you must hold 10 different countries and you get a bonus of 100,000 and therefore win

I don't see how it's pointless...

I like the map, I think it would be fun to play on

People prefer maps of places they know or heard of or maps that are based on something more than a map

pretty cool - don't like the similarities in color but otherwise this would be a great map to play!

All of the small non-game islands are distracting to the eye.

I think you should random generate 100 maps and then they would just rotate every day.

There needs to be a "random" option which randomly selects one of the maps or a random map, and it randomly generates said random map.

lack should put the random program onto the site. each territory could be named with a number, adn it could randomly place links between the countries.

Interesting idea, but I can't bring myself to play a map which has no theme. I'd just be pushing numbers around...

I am interested in how you generated the map though. You said you wrote the program? What does the program do exactly? Does it specifically generate maps for CC, or maps in general? If it's the former, does it try to balance borders, continent bonuses, and the like? Also, does it output the map as we see it, or a (algebraic) graph with the approximate location of each territory and the number of borders it has?

A properly-balanced, fully-functional random map generator that can be incorporated into the site sounds like quite an undertaking, but boy would it ever make for some crazy fun games.

Gotta say, the program is quite nice, if it made THAT map by itself.

I wouldn't play it though, I am tired of the old ''real'' maps. I like originality. Also need a theme.

But gotta say, it looks quite good.

Unfortunately this is not a program that generates CC maps. It is a project I made a while ago that generates landscapes.
The program is rather inefficient and not made for public release. It takes it half a hour to generate something as the following:

To turn this into an actual risk map, there is some more work to be done.

Anyway, could anyone here explain about XML code?
I read the stuff in the stickies but they didn't make it very clear... exactly how is an XML code for a map should look like?

Taking an enemy on the battlefield is like a hawk taking a bird. Though it enters into the midst of a thousand of them, it pays no attention to any bird other than the one it has first marked.
