Re: Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia [25.7.11]
take a 6 month break from CC. by the time you get back it should already be in live play or maybe beta, or at least the next in line for a xml check

Re: Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia [25.7.11]
I'm not going to defend OliverFA, but the slowness has a reason. In fact, with my consent, he has "neglected" his main job here for some days to develope a quicker and safer way to check the xml files. So, he will able to check the files in less time in the next future.
In any case an xml won't sit unchecked (i'm referring to the first check, not to the act of stamp it) for more than a week. (by agreement between OliverFA and myself)

[Adding XML stamp]
After checking the XML file, I am glad to confirm that this time everything in the code seems to be right.

Congratulations natty_dread!

Re: Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia [25.7.11]
The only suggestion I have for this map is the spacing between letters of territory names. (Slovenian Littoral, Varazdin, Baranja, Herzegovina, Dubrovnik, South Morava, Pomoravlje)
The star in Pristina looks a bit different, but maybe it's just this ugly laptop I'm using now.
Not a fan of your mountains, but it's just a personal thing.
Good work natty, it's a nice map.

Re: Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia [25.7.11]
Sadly, GIMP doesn't yet have an option for adjusting the kerning on text... you can adjust tracking (the overall spacing between letters) but not kerning (the space between individual letter pairs).
If the kerning is really a problem, I could adjust them manually... but it's frankly quite a pain in the ass. And I'm lazy
The star in pristina may look different because of the lighting effect. I don't think it should matter, it's not like there's any other stars you could confuse it with...

Open source is the way of the future.
Also, it seems to me that most people just stick up for photoshop because they don't want to admit they got scammed out of several hundred dollars when they could have got equal quality for free...

false. for 2 reasons:
1. photoshop is better. in fact in some areas like professional print jobs gimp doesn't even put up a fight, it just loses right from the start.
2. photoshop can be free if you know a thing or two about some stuff which can't be mentioned

Last Call
The map has passed through rigorous gameplay and graphics examinations and all major concerns have been addressed. If you have any other concerns, please make your voice heard. If after a reasonable amount of time there has not been any objection or protest, the map will be stamped and submitted for the Beta period.
Please, post questions and concerns if any.

Re: Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia [4.9.11]
Meh, I asked a few pages back if people want Tito on the map or not. No one seemed to care much for Tito, so we're going sans Tito for now.
Sure, but you have to remember GIMP's development is a constant process. And being open source, there's a whole world of innovation and resources just waiting to be utilized... I watched a demo this other day about this module one guy had written for GIMP that replaces the linear undo history with a sort of tree-like structure... so you can make an edit on an image, go a few steps back and make another edit, then combine the two undo branches to the same image... it looked cool as hell.
For now, PS may be better for professional applications, but even 5 years from now? Who knows...
thenobodies80 wrote:You know I have both softwares on my laptop. They are both good, but for different things. On the whole GIMP is more open and flexible but PS has some things (some just for copyright reasons) that make it more good for a professional usage, like DiM mentioned here above.

Re: Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia [4.9.11]
- Beta - Quenching
---The Final Forge period has concluded for the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia Map. All objections have had their time. The Foundry and I hereby brand this map with the Foundry Beta Brand. Let it be known that this map is now ready for BETA Play. After an extended period of time in BETA and once all quirks and issues have been resolved, the map will be put into Full Play (barring any Lack vetoes).
Conquer Club, enjoy!

While the map is in BETA Play, there are a couple of administrative tasks that are required of the mapmaker(s) in addition to the initial gameplay testing:
- 1. Please ensure that the first post of the thread contains all the necessary information to help future visitors to the development thread; it's particularly important to ensure the most recent images are there, along with any helpful guides (such as gameplay quirks/nuances or the location/size of any starting neutrals etc.)
2. Finally, it is the responsibility of the mapmaker(s) to ensure that they respond to further feedback in a timely and constructive manner.

Cool! I'm interested to see how the starting positions affect the otherwise basic gameplay scheme.

I'm guessing by the deletion of it, the Portal is old news now?

Is your question related with the map development?
Foundry Discussion.....
Btw...I'm posting here for someone else, let me call him/her "Mr.asdfg":
Mr. asdfg wrote:These map needs, graphically/gameplay speaking, to go far,far ,far better then now. Probably this is caused by the fact that the mapmaker doesn't come from that country and he doesn't know about it. When i see the map I see a lack of knowledge of those places.
Now since I know you very well natty wait some mins to kill this my shy friend, let me say that I've already asked to Mr. asdfg to come here and post what he/she thinks is totally wrong on the map, to give you more details that can help you to improve the map.(I can ensure you that he/she knows what he/she is saying
We will see what happen....
In the same time, what do you think he/she is referring to? My knowledge of that zone is really poor, is there anyone who see huge errors/things not represented on this map and wants to help?
Thanks

Re: Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia [4.9.11]
If Qwert has a problem with the map, he can come right in here and post in the map thread like everyone else. If that's above him, tough.
I've had input from people who live in the area during the development, and apart from a few minor naming errors (which have already been fixed) they had no problem with the gameplay or graphics of the map.
