FF 7.0 Beta?

Post by QoH »

FF is asking me to update to 7.0 beta...

Will this cause my scripts (Map Rank, BOB, Clickables, Clan Rank, Watch This Game) to malfunction?

I'm running FF 7.0 and haven't had any problems with BOB 5.1.5 so far.

Wow, these releases are coming fast and furious. I'm still at 3.6.20 because FF 4 was a bust for the scripts, and the newer ones have come so quickly, I haven't had a chance to catch up.

You know they're speeding up their release cycle, right? Now a release doesn't wait for features to get finished, only the finished items get shipped.
Looks like it's going to be about a release every 2 months, so that'd make around 6 releases per year..

But it doesn't really fit the previous upgrade path (with addons becoming incompatible every major version), so they'll have to improve that. I heard something about automatic updates (similar to chrome's updates I guess).

I don't think the changes between versions of firefox are significant enough to be called by a whole version number for 4,5,6 and probibly 7 as well. Further I would personally prefer if the releases would work right instead of occurring at "regular cycles" as is the new policy.

Considering how bad ff4 was I wouldn't download a beta unless I was a greasemonkey programmer.

I haven't updated FF since it wreaked Pogo for me months ago. Had to load an older version to play on Pogo again.

I already use Nightly version (beta version) for FF and every major script works fine there. Only Speed Turns have some small problems, but this is due to Ubuntu OS and not the add-on itself.

So yeah, rapid development for Mozilla now. Every browser does so now.

I guess I should see what has been added and decide whether to make the great leap forward and keep up with the times, or stay here at 3.6.22 and yell at the kids to stay off my lawn. (Funny, I think I may have 3.6.23 at work. I wonder why I haven't been updated here at home?)

That is 90s behaviour. You better update often because of the security fixes and because no one supports old versions. Unless you have a slow PC that cannot handle new software, but well, not updating is like not changing cars.
