When I spoke to jj3044 earlier, his power was out as well. He was playing Risk.

I would just like to also point out that it was my wife's idea!

Am I lucky, or what?!?

ANIMAL FLASH NEWS

Tortoises feet aren't like a baby elephant's at all. They are more like a lizard's (scaly skin with small claws).

I found out yesterday when I gave our lodger his freedom alongside a babbling brook in a bamboo grove. They can move quite quickly too when they want to. They've been having us on all these years.

I'm calling bullshit on that John...unless she was still drunk from Saturday night.

Our power went out again last night around 10, but was only out for another hour and a half. Storm is over. Everything is back to normal...except that the first day of the school year is cancelled--no power in that town still.

Yer I know...my baby turtle is a machine when he wants to be. He runs pretty quick for a lil thing. He chases ants around some times when I have him outside.

Sure, Dako! Would you mind making a private game and post it here? I will play another if you don't get enough takers, or even if you do. ;)

Just a heads-up. I'm going to take my lad camping for a couple of days, leaving tomorrow morning (about 10 hours from now) and returning Wednesday night (which will be a little before noon GMT). Dako and Cachejob will cover for me (and Steve, as I'd been covering for him!). I know it's not really important, but thought it worth mentioning to those of you who I'm in Hard On's friendly game with, which starts Wednesday (just in case you wonder why I'm not chatty for the next 42 hours).

Ciao ciao

Come back up here. Plenty of power (and Whiskey and wine) and an extra queen size bed for the two of you.

Thanks Denise. I'm not sure about coming back to Hive....I'm just glad to come back alive. I may as well relate the story I've just posted in our clan forum:

Just to let you know I'm back - a little earlier than anticipated. Would love to say I had a fabulous time, but it turned into quite an adventure and a true test of grit and character.

This is where I went with my lad Toby.....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Tai_Long_Wan_2010.jpg

It's an absolutely gorgeous area of Hong Kong; totally unspoiled scenic beauty, but a real slog to get to (in fact if you look at the pic you can see the mountain trails one has to traverse to get there).

Arrived at the first beach late morning yesterday after a 5 mile hike in 38 degrees and 90% humidity. Killer! No amenities on the beach whatsoever apart from one stand pipe for spring water. Toby and I pitched our tent and opted to hike on to the nearest village to get cold drinks. It took 3 hours over the steepest bloody mountains I've ever traversed. Got to the village, downed about 6 litres of liquids, then had to brace myself for the journey back to camp. We made it back at close to 8pm, so half the journey was done in the pitch dark. This morning one of my dogs simply wouldn't move, and on close inspection I found the pads on his rear paws were totally red raw and blistered - he simply couldn't stand up. So get this.....Toby and I took it in turns (along with all the camping gear, tent etc) to carry the dog all the way back to where I'd parked the car. Over mountains again. The 5 mile trek took almost 3 hours (the dog weighs 35kgs) and I think today is probably the hottest of the year. I'm glad we set out when we did (8am) before the sun reached its zenith as I honestly think we'd have collapsed with heat exhaustion. We ran out of water as it was, as we simply couldn't carry enough for two people and two dogs.

One hell of a trial - but a rewarding sense of achievement to have persevered and got everyone back home safely.

I am now going to take a well-earned nap in an air-conditioned room.

What I love about that story is the total inconsistency of units of measure, miles mixed in with litres and the celsius temp system. :D

haha, it's funny u should mention it as I actually converted the kilometres into miles as I knew this thread had a bigger American audience (although I actually prefer miles myself as a unit of measure, same as I prefer feet and inches to cms, coz how long is 76cms if u have to quickly think of it in your head - whereas 2'6" is easy to conceive). Bloody French (tho I do prefer kgs/litres as they make good common sense, 1l water = 1kg)

If you were going to do a conversion for the american audience, celsius to fahrenheit might've been a better bet. Kilometers and litres and one thing, but I cannot for the life of me make heads or tails of celsius, no matter how many times I try and memorize the conversion rate. It's just something my brain refuses to process, like legalese or the Cricket map.

lol @ the cricket map.

I'm the same mate....i.e. I can't work in Fahrenheit. All I can recall is that if your body temperature is over 100 you're not well, or if the mercury's hit 100 outside it's no day to be carrying dogs over mountains.
