I know have just got my colours, and I certainly do not want to become a nazi on my first day. However the discussion on torrents and free software isn't really appropriate. I would very much appreciate if we all get back to discussing Tribal War, please.

Here's an idea for the title. How about adding in some tomahawks and arrows like they are embedded into the font? I think it would be pretty cool if you could do that, and also keep with the theme!
Re: Tribal War - Florida v8.0 [23 Aug 2011] pg11
Thanks isaiah, I'm working on a couple of different looks, and that's a great idea if I can pull it off.
On a side note, I happen to be in St Augustine, Florida on business and always love swinging by the old fort. Here are a couple of shots of the Castillo de San Marcos, as indicated on my map, here in the oldest city in the nation.
View of the fort as you cross the Bridge of Lions:

Sorry to bore you, but I've been to this fort 20 times as a kid and it's still really cool.

I'm not much of a helper on this thing, but I say the text is still too small, and maybe some more in the explenation of the icons, I'm probably just an idiot, but I can't tell a chief from a warrior, what is the distinguishing factor, and is that stated somewhere in the legend?

i would increase the small map to 700*667
Is this possible? or would it have to be submitted as a supersized small? No oxymoron intended.

Thanks for the feedback swimmerdude. The text in the next version will be much more clean, especially on the small map. I think this will ultimately eliminate the need to increase the font size, or increase the size of the map. We'll see though. The legend has been reworked a few times, and this really is the best, and most clearly stated version. The nine tribes each have a symbol, the chiefs symbol is the one that's glowing the color of that specific tribe. The warriors do not have a glow.
Crossed off list for next version:
- Reworked all of the slanted text the way natty described and it worked great. Thanks for another great pro tip!
- Also re-worked the canoes and now starting on the legend text.
Still to come:
- Title
- Update small map with new changes to large

it is possible if the reasons are adequate and in this case i think they are. all you need to do is PM a CA and ask him and perhaps even show him the current version compared to a 700*667 version. then you'll get an answer if it is approved or not.
the supersized maps were introduced to avoid cramped maps and hard to read text so it's natural to use them whenever they're needed.

I do not think you would get permission to go larger for the small one. You have loads of space there, it might just be a case of getting the text done and then redraw the fancy boxes to go around. I would try that before going to a CA, at least then you can say it looks like crap done my way.
EDIT: It also might be a case of finding a better font that is easier to read. What size is the small font at?

The font size for the small is 8 and the large is 10. I don't think a new font is the answer though, and I'm pretty well set on this one. I guess one question would be, if there is an actual supersized small map over the standard 630x600, then is it possible just to use the large map, as not only the large map, but also as the supersized small? If we're getting into supersized smalls then ultimately there will need to be some parameters for that, as you could easily get close to the 840x800, and then what is the point of making two? Just a thought.

Re: Tribal War - Florida v8.0 [23 Aug 2011] pg11
the big map must be at least 9%, but no more than 33%, larger than the small.
so an 840*800 large map would allow a 700*667 small one with no problem.

yes of course. that's why i said you should make a 700*667 small map with bigger text, and send it along with the current small map to a CA (or maybe to the FF) and request an approval. if that CA/FF sees both versions he can better realise if such an increase is reasonable or not.

Thanks, working on it now.
I do want to make sure that the problem everyone is mentioning regarding the text is for the SMALL version only, correct? The large version looks right?

Yes the Large map looks GREAT!

CURRENT UPDATE INFO-2011-08-26:
- No major changes to this one except I re-did the small version at 700x667 with a font size of 9. The large is a font size of 10, and the other small is 8.
- I also added the sun to the title on the larger small, just as an effect, but I am still working on a much better overall title.

Seamus76...are you missing a border in Calusa beside the lake between MI4 and TQC?

No, there's a line there, just to the left of the 888's on the small version, in CA-1. But...if you can't see it, it might as well not be there. I'll try moving it up a bit so that it starts on the land color and isn't only on the border color, which seems to be making it hard to see. Thanks.
Re: Tribal War - Florida v8.0 [26 Aug 2011] pg13
Sorry, i can't see any line on either map where i am talking about.
I can see a line above CA1, but i am talking about any line that might exist to the left of Ais that might run to the lake.

Re: Tribal War - Florida v8.0 [26 Aug 2011] pg13
It's there, but again, if you can't see it, and now that you mention it, it's hard to see, then it needs to be changed. I'll work on it.

Yes, the line that is hard to see is not where that little circular cursor is in the zoomed version, but above it, separating TQ-C and MI-4. The borders of that colour are okay on the pale background but disappear in the coloured edge of the Calusa zone. When you cannot see it, you cannot tell whether TQ-C can attack CA-1 (which seems to be what you want) or if perhaps MI-4 could attack TM-4 (which, it would seem, it could not, but without a clear division which resolves the "four corners" problem, it is an issue).
You could move the eastern shore of the lake to the west, so that at least some of the border in question runs across the pale background. Once the eye is set up to see at least part of the line clearly, the mind will help complete it, even when it is not perfectly obvious.
Re: Tribal War - Florida v8.0 [26 Aug 2011] pg13
Correct. The circular cursor was just there from when I took the screen shot, and not to indicate anything. I should have moved the cursor before taking the pic. TQ-C can attack CA-1 and TM-4. MI-4 can not attack TM-4 which is indicated by the border in question. I have already redrawn it so that it starts higher in the pail color and then into the purple. This should fix the problem.

SemiProTip: you don't have to resort to screenshots to get an enlargened view of a partial image. Make a rectangle selection, Crop to selection, then Scale Image with these settings:

And you'll get a zoomed, pixelated image.

I am still not feeling your title. It does not have enough umpth. It is essentially the same as it was before. When I think tribal, I think blood, carnage, barbarism. The current title is to clean, simply you know?

yeah, i'm still very much working on the title. this is by no means close to final. just a place holder.
thanks for another pro tip natty. you should start a "natty's pro tip of the day" section.
