Seriously... be careful (unless it's a revolution... then you should join in).

Nope. But I did have a laugh with my mate that it's a great time to paint a train.

The original riot was caused by a black guy getting shot by the police and the family of the dead man marching to the local police station to get answers. The original police story has fallen apart and the riot just kicked off from there.

All these other riots are young kids taking advantage of mobile technology, to organise themselves to take advantage of a situation, where the police are stretched, to steal stuff and set fire to stuff.

are there any estimates for the potential property damage?

Is this a billion dollar riot?

I have no idea. In some parts of London the shops are being looted for 1 or 2 hours before the police turn up, then they torch the building. there aren't enough police to counter the looters.

This is from the guardian reporter which explains just how lawless things are out there on the streets...

I've just returned from Hackney riots and was ambushed just off Essex Road and had my bike snatched by a group of six masked teenagers waiting on Ecclesbourne Road who were shouting "take the bike, take the bike".

I was forced to swerve away from them but crashed to the ground. Just as one of the thieves grabbed my bike from under me a red van raced screeched around the corner and smashed into a parked car. Two young men then got out and the man in passenger seat then put his hand in his pocket and threatened to pull a on knife on the thieves, accusing them of stealing his bike earlier.

A violent scuffle broke out and the thieves gave up the stolen bikes. Everyone seemed to walk away from the incident, but criminal minded local youths seem to be taking advantage of the lack of police presence due to trouble elsewhere.

The vast majority of the looter are spades btw. Anyone want to give me a forum ban for using the term spades, then go ahead.
These scummy cunts are virtually all black and they are tearing this city apart.
I live above a shop. I've got the bath filled with water and a bucket at the ready, but not exactly sure what good that is if some prick lobs a petrol bomb into the shop below me. I've got to stay up all night to make sure my girlfriend and daughter don't end up in this sort of a situation....

Stay safe Pedro, this is getting WAAAY out of control. It's spread to Liverpool, Birmingham and about 10-13 London boroughs which is amazing.
I stay close to Birmingham, but I won't be anywhere near any potential riots thankfully.

As I said Pedro, stay safe and make sure anyone that comes near your home with the intent of violence gets what's coming to them!

*EDIT*Christ almighty...Manchester now too? It's the 4 biggest cities in England. Note none in Scotland are showing this behaviour...why the hell is that? (I'll no doubt come to regret that statement before this all comes to a close, haha)

What a great time to visit my uncle and be back in islington... This is quite fucking scary stuff tbqh. Ped, gotta say, i've seen an awful lot of white people rioting too.
Sometimes the human race disgusts me, people are destroying others homes and places of work, things that will ruin people's life. And what for? So they can brag to their mates or get a new laptop. Fucking disgusting. I understand the prospect of free things is alluring, but surely anyone with half a brain cell can realise the different between "free" and "stolen" and know that in a recession, you should not waste local resources by smashing shops, stealing things, antagonising police and burning buildings to the ground. I hope anyone who burned a building down has to walk past it everyday and feels fucking guilty for ruining someones life. Cunts.

Seriously, you need blankets, perferably wool or heavy cotton, dry not wet (wet is for smoke, so you can breath a tad, not flame) Not water. Water won't do jack. and, if you think you might get caught by a window, close any door behind you (or you will draw the flames in when you open a window), tie rope, sheets, curtains, whatever.. use slip knots tied around the rope itself (so it cinches).

A lot of people get caught in bathtubs. It is not nice. Honestly, about the worst place you want to be.

But.. if you can get out to someplace safer, do.. though I am sure you would have already.

I was waiting for you to disregard a complex issue completely and reduce it to a cliche.

Never mind the socio-economic reasons behind the hatred of the youth, the reason that they feel disenfranchised enough to start looting and rioting given the opportunity. Never mind that the high unemployment, austerity measures, the education sector, the closing down of youth centers that have led to the youth having no investment what so ever in the status quo. Never mind the interesting reflection of the consumerist culture, that spends billions on convincing the population that its objects are invaluable and now it appears is more than successful. Never mind the police's response, the mindset of whom has led to a murder of 29 year old father of four, whose response has been completely unable to stem the youth. Never mind what this could mean for possible cuts for the police or whether their response has been shaped to highlight to the government that they are invaluable.

The riots and looting are reprehensible but to simply shut off your brain, which does seem to be your default status, and to call them barbarians misses a great deal what these riots have revealed.
