Does this count as throwing the game? Player, NeilLock, in an attempt to lose less points wants player, Cooperhawk, to win. Because of this he says that he will sacrifice himself against me so that he loses less points. I'm fine with teaming up as that's normal at this point in this stage. But the thought of him sacrifing himself so he loses less points doesn't sit well with me. Here is the chat log:

I've been in this game for three months. I didn't come this far just to have somebody sacrifice himself so that he loses less points and I lose.

eh Its hard to say because anyone who cares about their points and knows they are not going to win will want the highest ranked player to win so the point reduction is lessened. It may be frowned upon (?) but I haven't heard about it being against the rules.

Deliberately trying to get the highest ranked player to win to lose less points is benefiting from throwing the game.

I would say that if it is indeed impossible for him to win, he isn't throwing the game. However, in a multiplayer game, it generally only becomes impossible to win when there's a clear winner.

Throwing games refers to intentionally giving up a position that has a significant chance of winning. I can't really tell how much it applies here, but if the player in question had no chance of winning, it is not against the rules to decide how he is going to lose once it has already been determined that he will lose.

If

it is a 3-person game

and

one person has the capacity to swing the game in favor of one of the two remaining players

then

neither of those other two players had hegemony

and

that third player had a chance of winning

and

is throwing the game by suiciding on one player

and

has shown intent on suiciding/throwing game/SD in game chat

and

should be disciplined.

I've seen this done a ton of times.
More of a point loss strategy then throwing of a game.

I've always assumed this was regular practice and accepted onsite.

It is still throwing games. Losing on purpose, (not trying to win), is throwing the game. To make it worse, to purposely lose, and to make sure someone else loses. That is the epitome of throwing games. It may be done a lot on the site, but that doesnt mean they are not throwing the games. It is a practice that should be discouraged. It definitely takes away from the game and is against the rules.

I disagree. Throwing games means playing to lose. Look it up. Under no definition that I found, does your interpretation come to light. Also, I disagree with the assumption that he had no chance to win. If an alliance were made with the other weaker player, I am sure a balance could have been achieved.

Simply put, if Throwing games is illegal, which i understand it is, then the accused would be guilty by his own admission.

Does the same thing apply for tournaments?

Say you're in the final round of a 64 game tournament and to win you just need to make sure the 2nd place player doesn't win the final game.
If you throw that final game so the 2nd place player doesn't win does that mean you've broken the rule?

I think this was the case some time ago (don't remember what case it was). Think you should ask the tournament director's

I don't think the TDs should be deciding whether you're breaking site rules or not.
