The problem is that I will be more likely to read a message that invokes "thegreekdog" than a message that invokes "cyan" or "teal." I try to avoid referring to players by color (and I don't always succeed). In any event, when you have 20 or 50 or 100 games going at once, it can get confusing and time consuming to figure out what player people are referring to.
Cool, so when we are an opponent, I will refer to you or another player as a colour, knowing you wont be bothered to try and understand.
And, when I do want you to take notice I will use the players' full username.
Anyway, I don't mind people using 'teal' as long as they know what 'cyan' means. I assumed cyan was right from olden days of 80s computers and teletext where cyan was one of very few colours. Plus, isn't it cyan one of the 3 ink colours for printers?
Not sure where I stand on the 'grey' / 'silver' debate though.

The smart people might have noticed, that the first 3 colours are the primary colours of the RGB (additive) colour system, namely, Red, Green and Blue. While the next 3 colours are the secondary colours of the RGB system - or, the primary colours of the substractive CMY system - namely, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow (although in the wrong order...)
Also, in both colour models, Red and Cyan, Green and Magenta, Blue and Yellow are all pairs of opposite (or, complement) colours.
Cyan is the combination of Green and Blue, and lacks Red.
Magenta is the combination of Red and Blue, and lacks Green.
Yellow is the combination of Red and Green, and lacks Blue.

I consider Cyan and Aquamarine to be closer to equivalents,
Teal is closer to the color of Russia on the World 2.1 map.
Of course everyone here pretty much knows what is meant by Teal,
even if it isn't accurate and the "colour code" labels it with a C.

Maybe we should just call it Ceal. Or Tyan. Or Cight Tlue (since Tight Clue just sounds even more confusing).

My feeling is that when playing a game, the first person to call it either teal or cyan sets the official name for that game. So if it matters a lot to you, its smart to make a comment mentioning cyan/teal right away to establish the precedent. So maybe chime in real fast right off the start and say "GL teal!" or something like that.

Re: Does it bother you when fellow players refer to cyan as
Sorry to have to been offensive to my metro-sexual opponents, however it has come to my attention, that a lot of people are calling teal, cyan? Maybe we could have TFO or another qualified consultant, give a ruling on whether we have been calling pink, what is truly a shade of fuchsia. I'm very proud of the CC community for addressing such a serious infraction. My most sincere regrets for any suicides, or persons committed to a mental health facility, because of my ignorance of such an important fact. The problem may have been, due to the fact that my father having grown up in the great depression, and of Scottish decent, was too cheap to buy me the crayola 64 crayon package, and instead insisted, that the package of 8 primary colors was sufficient. However don't expect me to reform of my evil ways, until i receive at least a formal warning from the CC administration.
Sincerely Yours,
GP

Hm, I like this idea. Color defined on a game by game basis...

Oh goody, can you just imagine the new rash of spurious claims in C&A over this. The accused are suspected of calling the colour teal and I had already and most importantly firstly called that colour cyan. C&A would be issuing bans on mentioning the colour which shalt not be named. The horror, and amusement in it all would be saccharine sweetness with a bitter twist.
Disclaimer
Eddie2, once again this is not about you. Please feel free to start another another spurious C&A report, or maybe just cast more uncalled for bigoted gay slurs against myself and a former clan member next time you see me in live chat. Just what ever helps you feel better about yourself, I'm glad to be here to help. Focus your hatred on me, not yourself. That is a good chap

How the hell has this reached 7 pages? To answer your question, no it doesn't bother me. I couldn't care less. I call it cyan, I also use the player's name, and have on occasion called it light blue. However, I know precisely which colour someone is referring to when they say teal (as do all of you), so where's the problem?

Hrmmm....
....not being able to figure out which colour you are in a game, sounds like a bit of a handicap.

My REAL pet peeve is when, JUST FOR CONVENIENCE, people refer to orange as 'burnt sienna with warm ochre undertones'. Lazy S.O.Bs.

Maybe they should just refer to it as BSWWOU. That is just as long as Orange.

Re: Does it bother you when fellow players refer to cyan as
Fortunately, we're talking HTML here, and there ARE standards, and there IS a right answer:
Cyan = #00FFFF
Teal = #008080
CC uses #0CC, which expands to #00CCCC
So technically, it's not actually cyan, but it's a bit closer to cyan (51 increments of luminosity) than it is to teal (76 increments).
And, oh yeah, what CC calls "silver" definitely isn't. Silver is #C0C0C0, but CC uses #7F7F7F, which is just one increment away from #808080, "gray", but 65 increments from proper "silver". And "slate gray" is #708090, giving it a slight blue-ish hue (like actual slate).
While we're at it, CC "green" (#009a04) isn't really green (#008000).
No freaking wonder everyone's confused!
