Ok

Not a gunman. Man who shot him was actually stabbed several times, had the guy with a knife actually been a gunman the shop keep would be dead.

Let's start a debate about this.

Indeed.

We can expand it to "how do you stop crazed people who mean to harm you with any kind of weapon including a gun"

That's where it was logically going. Naturally the only correct answer to the question, "how do you stop a crazed man trying to harm you with a ballpoint pen," is "shoot him in the face."

nah. Risk it. I'm sure the guy with the pen will miss. You wouldn't want the attacker harmed would you?

I want him dead, really. Everyone who intends harm to another person deserves to die, right then and there. Forget trial by jury and due process.

The person being attacked deserves a right to defend themselves.

karate lessons = decent defense
nunchackas n ninja stars = better defense
gun = best defense

In the most expeditious way possible that has a reasonable probability of sucess. And for the purposes of defining reasonable - if you are in an enclosed area and can't get away, yes you rush him...hopefully as a group from muliple sides.

Did I say that?

Did I even mention victims?

Back on track: The person attacking another person deserves the right to arm themselves?

no. I was talking about a victim, and you changed the victims defense to offense, defacto turning the victim into the attacker.

Yes, you did that.

Oooooh we're being petty, sorry mate, my mistake.

In that case you mis-quoted me. I left out your first sentance on purpose (removing any indication that I was talking about the victim).

I didn't change the victims anything, I changed the function of the items.

Well, I'm gonna have to get even more petty on ya!

You can't take out my first sentence which lays out the subject, and then only quote the related statistics and make a different point off that.

I mean, you can, but then you would be just as low as some of the other posters around here.

just curious though, since you are here. How is a crazed gunman stopped?

A couple pages back someone was asking about when an armed civilian had ended a massacre. Another example of that was in 2002 at the Appalachia Law School shooting, where two students heard shots, ran to their vehicles, grabbed firearms, approached the gunman from two directions, forced him to drop his weapon, and then tackled him. However it was very revealing to note "that out of 280 separate news stories (from a computerized Nexis-Lexis search) in the week after the event, just four stories mentioned that the students who stopped the attack had guns." Bias, much?

Oh, and here's a few random stories of DGUs (defensive gun uses) from earlier this year:
Store clerk shoots robber
Homeowner shoots intruder armed with knife
Pizza deliveryman defends against three in ambush

On another side note, our Canadian Conservative government is scrapping our gun registry (a billion-dollar boondoggle) later this fall. It's great!

Ideally?

I've already posted my thoughts on the matter.

He didn't say that at all. He was simply pointing out the opposite side of the coin.

"State Fair Quickdraw Champion" has precisely zero to do with any real-world scenario regarding firearms. But I'm sure you're impressed with yourself.

Gotta loves Mom's! convo I just had

Mom: "8p.m.? Isn't that kind of a bad neighborhood at night?"
Me: "Yeah, but don't worry, there are 4 times as many people going this time than in 2008, and there will be a lot of people carrying guns."
Mom: "Oh, okay. Drive safe and wear your seat belt too!"
