How Do You Stop a Crazed Gunman?
All I have been hearing from a lot of people is that nobody should be able to shoot a person who is committing a massacre. What are some other ways?

It doesn't hurt to ask the gunman nicely to please stop shooting people. You can also remind the gunman that murder is against the law. If that doesn't work, try reminding the gunman that guns are illegal to possess.

We have a group of people whose job it is to shoot the people committing the massacre. In most cases they even get a salary.

This is exactly what happened. The police showed up and arrested him. Unfortunately, 91 people had already died. Is this really the best answer Mets?
Can you carry one of these people around with you on your back? to protect you at all times? How long does it take for these s"salary people" to get to that island? Pretty sure lots of people would die before the cops ever got there, and that's exactly what happened, isn't it?
Police are good at responding to a shooting, but I'm talking about actual prevention (saving lives). How do you stop a crazed gunman Mets?

Put it in the gunman's butt, he'll be so surprised he'll drop the gun and people can escape to safety

Its not that shooting is a bad idea, its that most people who have guns are not capable of doing it. Being well trained in gun use takes a lot more time than most people have. Also, if you live in an area with a lot of guns, then that just gets exacerbated. The talent needed to take out a really trained person is even greater than that needed to take out an untrained person.
The result, in practical terms, is a lot more harm to a lot more people.
This camp shooting was tragic, but giving everyone guns would not have prevented it.

Ask the people in Arizona. Did they stop him with the guns they had on them (it is a fact that one, maybe two other people in that store were armed and did not reach for their gun)?

I base it on the experience of various people who train others to use guns either part-time or for a living.
I am not going to give you other people's names, but I can give you a few titles:
NRA training instructor.
ex Ranger
ex Navy Seal
former Navy Seal marksmanship trainer (or something like that.. not surewhat his exact title was)
Several national Rifle & shotgun competion champions
An olympian.
For that matter, even Wil Hayden had a segment on it in on his show. (he has a TV show, so I feel free to list his name)

I am not myself trained, so I can only give some rough, basic ideas.
But, from what I understand the best thing is to start BEFORE the crazed gunman is around.. you have specific trained people to keep a better watch on those who express unusual or serious ideas of violance.. not to prohibit their speech, but to make sure it stops at speech., etc.
Once the gunman is there, there is little to be done. You can try to overwhelm him with force, but that's nearly impossible when its an automatic and you are not already close.

Re: How Do You Stop a Crazed Gunman?
So how do you make sure it stops at speech? You have people that monitor everybodies messages? Who trains them? What speech are they looking for? Once you have identified that "speech", how do you make sure they don't act on it, without infringing upon their rights? Your suggestion opens a whole can of civil liberty issues? The questions I have asked are just basic ones.
The next problem is that your suggesting we just take on "Oh well" attitude in these kinds of situations and just wait to be shot. I much rather have the option to do something about it and not take it, rather than be just be a helpless victim.

Ok, if I may! First, gp, guns are not a "be all end all" solution to crime. No responsible gun owner would ever portray them to be so. Second, don't you think the CHL's in the crowd showed remarkable restraint by tackling the gunman rather than shooting him, which would have endangered others with the chance of misses and through and through's? And at greater risks to themselves? What would you have done?

You kick him in the balls from behind. When he drops to the ground you keep kicking the balls until the police show up.

What if he's crazed because he has no balls?

Re: How Do You Stop a Crazed Gunman?
Well if I was somewhere and somebody started shooting people, I personally would shoot him. I pack as does my wife, they are to be used as self defense....speech won't work at that point...if you tried to talk him out of it and reminded him that it was a crime, you would probably be the next victim.

Then you knife hand him in the throat from behind. One way or the other, he won't be shooting anymore.

Or just knife him in the throat.
Re: How Do You Stop a Crazed Gunman?
Just one thought -- that "youth camp" in Norway might have benefited from some classes in responsible gun/rifle ownership, hunting, and marksmanship. After all, Isn't shooting still a sanctioned Olympic sport?

I don't get it. Shooting a pistol isn't hard, you line up the sights and pull the trigger. My first time at the range of my first clip about half my shots where an instant fatality on the target, and the others all were on the target. Do you mean that it is too mentally challenging? You might feel differently after someone starts gunning people down with an automatic.

Okay.
Simple PH; you KILL them! Nobody wants to take a life but in this situation, having the laws tweaked to allow concealed carry, maybe the death toll would have been 1; although 1 is too many, but it could have saved many more. I know they're mixed emotions regarding concealed carry whether it be due to untrained persons etc, but a person contemplating a violent crime may think twice knowing that someone out there is armed and could potentially kill or seriouly injure the person, they may think twice; it's a proven deterrent, however, we all know that incidents still occur regardless of any lethal intervention.
So, how do you stop a crazed gunman?
Re: How Do You Stop a Crazed Gunman?
By removing the crazed firing pin, man.
