Re: Battleship [Round 1 - Salvos 11 & 12]

Post by BiggsHancock »

Team Captains nominate a team member (may be the Captains themselves) to play more than one pair of games per salvo in order to make up deficiencies. If a team drops to two players they must play two pairs each per salvo. If any team drops to one player then that remaining player will be forced to play all four pairs of games per salvo (Premium only). In the event that all four members of a team drop out, their opponents get a by to the next round.

So, no more replacements then? Just play 'til someone wins or a whole team drops out? lol I guess that could work.

I've done that quite a few times, including this last time. No one was interested. I guess I could give it one more shot.

In an effort to get this going again and speed up the tournament, I am proposing the following changes.

  • I will do my best to find replacement players for those that drop out, however the tournament will not be hindered by them. Teammates of said players will compensate by playing extra games. Should an entire team drop out, they will forfeit their round. Teams are free to find their own replacement players, as well.
  • Each attack/defense combination will be a single game for 2-4 (up for debate) board locations, rather than a single location. Whoever wins the game wins all corresponding locations.
Hopefully, this will better explain the second point.

Old: MoB Deadly (d5) vs. arno30
New: MoB Deadly (d5, f8, a2) vs. arno30

With the new way, whoever wins that single game wins at all 3 board locations.

What do you guys think? I really want to finish this tournament. I don't like the idea of letting it slip.

ok with me.

And what happen if two teams kill the last boat on the same salvo? I would suggest that we can check out the number of battle win in total.

I would say two things. The board locations would be treated in the order listed. So, whoever won on the earliest board location would win the match. For example let's say team 1 wins (a1, b5, i9) and team 2 wins (b6, h3, d7), both of which sink the last ship of the other team. But let's say h3 was the last ship location for team 2 and i9 was the last ship location for team 1. In this case team 2 would win, because their final location was earlier in the list (position 2 vs. position 3). If both teams win at the same list position, I would suggest a quads game between the two teams.

Or we could just go with the quads game as the only tie breaker. :)

I'm also not opposed to total battle wins. I've been keeping track, so that's an easy thing to check.

[edit]I've decided I like total battle wins. :) If there is still a tie, we'll do a quads game.[/edit]

Okay... so to recap the changes that start now. :)

Players that drop out will not hinder the tournament. Teams are free to find their own replacements and should let me know should they do so. If I have the time, I will try to find replacements, as well. Captains will decide who plays the missing player's games.

Battles will now be for 3 board locations. The winner of the battle will win at all 3 board locations.

In the event that two teams sink their opponent's last ship in the same salvo, the tiebreaker will be the total number of battles won by each team, followed by a single quads game on the same map and settings if there is still a tie.

well being an entertainment contributor , i understand why u would not want to let it go.. as these are just games to me.. I mean i think i swept 2 lost 2 and split 2 if you see my point.. Not much interaction between teammates etc.. But that does not mean i do not want to see this through.. I have no idea what i am looking at when i see the charts , have no idea if my team is even in the lead.. i do know that this is moving painfully slow and can understand why people are dropping out.. I have other commitments here on CC and have no reason to leave..

My thoughts on how to speed this up is simple .. A battleship board has 100 spots to aim for.. thats alot of games especially if you have defeated attacks.. so keeping it simple stupid is the best approach... Win a game in the 7th or by the 7th round and you get 2 shots win after the 7th round you get 1 lose and you have no shots.. Either way i will keep joinging as invited or pmed to do so

lol Thanks for the input, danfrank. :)

With these new changes, we will be aiming at 12 board locations per salvo, which should increase the speed of the tournament significantly. :)

It's extremely tedious to setup that many games, and we'd still have to wait for all of them to complete. This way, we only have to wait for one game to get the result for three locations. Obviously, this places a lot more importance on winning your games, but is that a bad thing? :) I don't think so.

FYI for everyone... [player]Robespierre__[/player] will be replacing moshu.

Okay, the last two games for Salvo 12 are being played. I'll get the boards updated soon and get started on Salvo 13.

If anyone else has objections to the format changes, they need to speak up now. ;)

I'm ok with any solution that will speed
things up; otherwise, we might never finish

Yes, that was my thought as well, especially with the rate people were dropping out. :) Hopefully, this will help.

Okay, the last two games finished, and I updated the boards.

Begin Round 1 Salvo 13

I am quoting the new rules below as a reminder.

MrGlassB wrote:Players that drop out will not hinder the tournament.

The biggest change affecting the beginning of a salvo will be that captains need to list 3 board locations for each player attack. That's a total of 12 locations per salvo - 3 for each of 4 teammates.
