I love your updates
can you try to find something better for minor bridges
maybe try the legend with black text with white glow
keep going don't loose the faith ;)

When you post an updated map (or repost your map to the last page of the topic) please add the folowing information.

Map version (Quad cities v0.12 or something, name it whatever you want it, but i'd just number them v1 v2 v3 etc.)
What did you change since the last version, in this case i'd be something like:
  • Increased font size on territories
  • Decreased font size on minimap
  • etc.

Yeah I'm really bad about this I know. I'll do that right now.

I still think it's funny how there are 5 cities in the "quad" cities title. But nice graphical update.

Quad Cities v7.01
  • Fixed overshooting line at Rockingham/Credit Island boundary intersection
  • Lessened inner shadow on regions to make the map look less dark
  • Increased territory font size to 7pt
  • Darkened bridge graphic on bottom to stand out a little more
  • Turned off BOLD on text in legend
  • Spread legend regions out a bit more
  • Changed "Vandruff" and "Campbell" text from Strong to Crisp. They looked bolder than the rest of the labels before.
  • Revised terr. labels (Making some 1 line instead of 2, getting rid of abbreviations/hyphens where possible)
  • Fixed border thickness issue on west side of North Davenport
  • Added slight shadowing to the minor bridges to give them depth

I know, I know. If only the term "Quint Cities" would've caught on. I think there was a brief period where they did try to use Quint but folks still referred to it as Quad so it just stuck.

So now Davenport, Bettendorf, Rock Island and Moline are the Quad Cities with East Moline being the oddball "5th Beatle" of the bunch. :)

Can Moline and East Moline be represented in the title with just "Moline" ? Or is that a slur to East Molinians?

No, they are two separate cities. It would be as illogical as merging any of the others together.

perhaps you could just have the word MOLINE, but three letters coloured yellow and the other three coloured sky.

I don't get why you want to change history
ironsij correct me if I'm wrong
quad cities have become five with time
but the name remain
it is contradictory but it is like this in real life ...
you know what I mean REALITY
so in my humble opinion title have to say it

Agreed. I've been to the Quad Cities at least once in my life.

It'd be like doing an accurate map of the USA, and just deciding that West Virginia should just be lumped into Virginia, since it is the smaller one anyways. :D

Or for you folks across the ocean in the UK, maybe like combining Norfolk and Suffolk? :D

there's plenty of 'dead space' where the compass and bridge are where you can write a little history. If you use a nice looking font and a color that doesn't stand out too much (probably a dark color in this case) it will not look bad.

I think adding a little history in that dead space would be awesome. You could also account for the quad/quint cities issue there as well and avoid the loads of questions in the future as to why there are five cities and its called quad cities.

Yeah, I mean you have plenty of room left of the legend, at least in the large. I always like the little blurbs and such that some mapmakers put on their maps to set the mood, explain the setting, etc.

Completely random suggestion about moving things around a bit to make better use of space:

XML Checking

Post by OliverFA »

[XML Checking]

Hi ironsij0287. Hi checked the new version of the XML that was updated due to the graphical revamp. Everything seems to be ok, except for a few minor coordnate issues in the small map:

Taylor Ridge covers its name. Needs to go up.
Elmore covers its name. Needs to go down
Bettendorf covers its name. Needs to go down

You just need to fix those coordinates and the XML will be Ok. ;)

Hey guys. Been busy lately but thought I would check in.

Working on putting a historical blurb on the map as well as getting the small version ready. Then I'll go back through the XML and make sure everything is straight with that.
