Jigs Battle for South America [Abandoned]

Post by jigger1986 »

[edit -tokle] This tournament has been rescued by Lindax. Updates here: viewtopic.php?f=91&t=144151&start=30#p3638117

Greetings fellow CC tournament goers,

A while ago I played in a tournament with an interesting game flow, and decided I would try one for myself. So here it is......

In Jigs Battle for South America, all participants will be randomly assigned (using random.org) a mainland country in South America. For the purposes of this tournament Brazil (being too big) has been split into 4 regions (each representing a separate country) The idea of the tournament in to attack other countries and eventually the person controlling the entire map will be the winner.
PLEASE READ THE TOURNAMENT DETAILS CAREFULLY!!
-All will be played on the South America map with the settings-auto,sequential,esc,chained,foggy.
-At the start of each round I will show you a map of South America, with the current political borders drawn (these will change as the tournament progresses.
-Players can attack only once per round, regardless of number of countries they own.
-Players can only attack adj countries.
-Players will then have 24 hours to PM me, telling me who they would like to attack.
-Players who do not PM me, will not attack and this if fine, but players can only not attack once in the tournament.
-If you do not attack more than once you will forfeit, so please pay attention and respond to those PMs.
-After the selections are made via PM, I will set up the .
-Depending on who attacks where, a corresponding game will be made (on CC's South America map) to represent the defended and anyone who decided to attack that particular region.

Ex. Player 1 (Peru) decides to attack (Player 2) Bolivia. No other people decided to attack Bolivia, so a 1v1 game will be made, with the winner having control over Bolivia for the next round.
Player 1 (Peru) and 3 other adjacent players decide to attack Player 2 (Bolivia) so a 5 player standard game will be made, with the winner having control over Bolivia for the next round.

Ex. (of the map changes in between rounds)
The borders will change as the tournament progresses bc countries will be gained and lost in each round.

If you look at the map in the thread and imagine yourself as the Red player (Columbia). At the beginning of the round I send you a copy of the map provided int he thread (the default map). In round 1 you successfully attack Venezuela, so at the beginning of round two, I would send u another pm with an updated map to reflect your win in Venezuela (now Columbia and Venez would be red, and Magenta would no longer exist.

When the tournament starts I wil replace the country names on the name with player names to make it less confusing.

Please excuse my crumby map making skills, Im not a map makers, this is just something I threw together in 30 minutes.[bigimg]http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/2231/sar5.jpg[/bigimg]
Here is a reference map to with country names to help you pick your target.
[bigimg]http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/2548/southamer.jpg[/bigimg]

-As I will know the battles before the round starts, I will not be participating in this tournament.
-Players have 48 hours to join games, or will receive a forfeit
-The forfeit can act as your 1 "non-attack" round.
-Because there will only be 2 games max per player per round, fremium players will be able to join (but plz keep 2 games open)
-Due to the nature of this tournament reserves will be used throughout.
-Again due to the nature of this tournament a 97% turn rate will be the only minimum requirement.

To avoid a stalemate I actively encourage diplomacy, but only the legal way. I encourage players to post in this thread regarding overall strategy and alliance making. Please remember that secret diplomacy is a no go, and all alliances etc must be made either in game chat, or (for the overall game flow) in this thread.
The finals- when we are down to two players, if they are within 4 countries of eachother they will play a best of 16 game series. The player with more countries going into the finals will only have to win the number of games equal to his opponents country total.
If the two players in the finals are not within 4 games of eachother the tournament will progress as usual, but if it goes past 16 rounds, a 16 game 1v1 series will be played using the rules above.

Ex.1 Player 1 has 9 countries and player two has 7. Player one would only need to win 7/15 games to be the overall winner.
Ex.2 Player 1 has 10 countries and player two has 6. Player one would only need to win 6/15 games to be the overall winner.
Interesting gameflow indeed.. Game style depends on the number of attacking players, interesting

I am in although I will lose since I suck at standard games :D But it's esc so at least I stand some sort of chance haha

I'll play.

What if Peru says they are attacking Bolivia and Bolivia says they are attacking Peru (and no other players mention either)? Are there two 1v1 games set up for this scenario?
taking a break from cc, will be back sometime in the future.

Pat,

To answer your question, yes in that scenario 2 1v1 games would be played.

One for the battle to control Bolivia and one for the battle to control Peru.

Couple more questions as I've never played in this style before.

1. You say: "-At the start of each round I will show you a map of South America, with the current political borders drawn (these will change as the tournament progresses." - How do these change?

2. It's hinted at in your example but just to confirm, you can only attack a country adjacent to you, correct?

Pat,

Thanks for asking the questions, bc of the unique game style its hard to remember to list everything.

Do you mean every surviving player will only hold ONE integrated country?

No every surviving player will hold as many countries as they have taken over. So basically if u win your first game (and that country)
now yo have 2. In round 2 you would have to lose both defensive battles to be out of the tourney.

I know this may be a bit confusing, but it will make alot more sense when a visual aid is provided. (an example of that aid can be found in the op)
