and mass transit is subsidized already. The true cost is over twice what they charge. Everyone starts using mass transit and stops paying all those gas taxes......BOOM SHAKA-LAKAH!

Sometimes more than twice, but yeah...
However, you cannot look just at things in isolation. There are benefits provided by mass transit that make it a worthy tax investment. Maintaining mass trasit systems typically cost less (overall) to maintain, but the biggest benefit is providing a ready way for low income people and "average" people to move around and get jobs.
