So the pace of life has become faster. That is all there is no change between newspaper, or telegram. or the invention of language other then the fact that it is instant. and this makes the pace faster!!!!! NOTHING NEW HAS HAPPENED HERE THE PASSE of life has just become faster. This is not because of face book this is simple fact of technology. technology improves the way our life runs makes things faster so we have more data and can manage more cause more information is given to us faster. Just the same way the printing press did for language.

not only faster. you are still failing to get my point about third world dilemma.

in countries like Syria and Egypt (during Mubarakola regime), any cop has/had the right to arrest/ violently abuse you under the Emergency Code. in a country like Syria/Iraq, you are not allowed to walk in the street with +2 people after midnight.

FYI, in the said countries, you have no idea who may report you if you even discussed politics. look, I'm not even saying if you insulted the dictator; I'm saying if you just discussed politics.

on facebook, you can talk to guy who doesn't know you, so you can have a space to express a little "banned thoughts" because he ain't gonna report you since he doesn't know who you are.

WRONG you could always do this here are a few examples of what political situations you described that lead to rebellions in history with out the help of facebook.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Algerian_War

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_Revolution

Both had similar political rights as are present in middle east and.

the first link is talking about a different revolution which is invalid here because it's about people who revolted on colonization (international stuff).

the 2nd link deals with an interesting revolution which took place in France in the 18th century. but look, in that time, the government/authorities were amateur and it was one of the first revolutions of that kind. however, governments/authorities are aware now and can oppress any revolution once it starts to rise.

look at this example when a revolution is gonna start and see what happened in syria 30 years ago

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hama_massacre

but notice that this massacre was not committed because a revolution was gonna start. it was committed because an opposition party was gonna start.

get a clue about the fucked up people mate. you can't just sit in you comfortable house at the other part of the world and tell me that a revolution can easily start. or do you still believe that USA came here to free Iraq. if there was oil in syria, USA would have started a war ages ago under the name of freedom.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boston_Massacre
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/September_Massacres

Rising up against a government is hard. I never said it was a walk in the park!!! but it does not matter about facebook or the newspapers. what matters is the people revolting do they have enough courage to die what they believe in? Massacres usually in-cress resistance against the government. Cause so many people where hurt by them. However If they are truly not commuted to die for there cause then guess what nothing will change. It does not matter what technology they have. sooner or latter they have to play em or fold em. That all humans got. So facebook is doing nothing!!!!1

Do you actually 100% agree with that sentiment? Is technology completly benign? I would be cautious when making such a claim

There is no doubt that technology has malicious play. I was referring to the context of my argument in this thread about the positive supports of technology and mediums of communication.

That much is painfully obvious.

I know a friend (not on CC) who has a similar problem to targetman's. He can speak in proper English, but he can't write properly. He struggles with the process between thinking the words and then writing them. It takes him about 10 minutes to properly write what I've just written (total time for me: less than 2 minutes).

I guess targetman doesn't care enough to proofread his work.

facebook doesn't allow people to kill each others. facebook allow people to arrange & start a peaceful protests in a given place, and the dictators attacked & killed the peaceful protesters.

again, you are still failing to see. Alfred Nobel invented dynamite to make the mining easier, then criminals used it for killing others. just another example how people tend to look at any invention from different perspectives.

Now don't get me wrong i disagree with dictators all over the world but if you guys make the case that facebook helped make the revolution possible. and without it there would be no revolution  . But then you must say that facebook kills too!!! or is that humans kill?

in the link above, you are showing some men who carried guns for self-defense when the dictator started using the nation's air fighters and tanks to kill his people. so the weapons which are supposed to protect the nation are fucking up the nation and its people to protect the dictator.

I showed you a link to a massacre committed in 1982 and took place in Hama, Syria. I can show you a lot more. the criminal at that time, Hafez Al-Assad, got away with that massacre because there were no media ways.

our main topic and point here is that newspaper is not the same as facebook for a simple reason. there is no interaction in newspapers because they are an information/notification means, while facebook is a way to communicate and rapidly/easily meet people you don't know. also, they don't know you as well, which makes it easier for you to express/share some of your BANNED views and thoughts with no monitoring.

FYI, the internet users in a tribal country like Libya are a little minority. if there were one million protesters, I'd assume there were 10.000 young people who arranged the protests via technology. of course not all the protesters were involved in the technology. when few people boldly get down to the streets and show their protests, a lot of others will join.

in egypt, the facebook arrangement involved like 5.000 people, and the protesters number escalated till it reached 2 millions in Tahrir Square in Cairo only. and BTW, protesters in egypt were attacked too.

do you know what's the difference between gypt and libya? in egypt, there is a strong opposition party (Muslim brotherhood, whuch sucks btw) who protected the the protests and kept it safe by blocking the roads that lead to the Square, while in libya there is no such a thing.
