Re: Colonial Africa (The Bison King)

Yeah, that sounds familiar. My favorite idea is killer neutral territories in the Red Sea, Atlantic, Med. and Indian Ocean, rather than both the dotted lines and naval Superiority. I think it might make for a better dynamic. And I was thinking... Yes, Africans can't attack from Zululand to Britain... but the British who occupy Zululand can jump from Zululand to Kenya and attack. Maybe the Killer neutral territories would be better.

One of the territory names should be "Tunisia", not "Tunesia".
If you can squeeze in some of the island countries it would be great.

Cape Verde is the only island countries that I noticed were missing.

I'll make an update soon. It'll probably take the form of a brainstorm with several different ways of re-arranging the sea connections.

Maybe, I'm really not sure they would add much though. They're pretty small an un-strategic. I really don't see a reason for them to be included at this point.

Ok here's my solution to the first concern.

There might be a better way of phrasing it in the Legend but the idea is that the amounts below "With colonial power" are added to your total when you have the European territory as well as the mentioned bonus. So for example, if you have South Africa you get +3, if you also posses England you get in an additional +2 so a total of +5.

thoughts?

Ok, that works in concept.

Shouldn't Ottoman Empire have something about holding Egypt as well? Hmm... I'm noticing a few bonuses have yet to be listed... I'm presuming you mocked this up to show what you were thinking? I'd say stick with and finish it off with complete bonuses. We'll work out value accuracy in the GP workshop.

Now, what to do about the naval territories.

Sorry for the slow reply.

Egypt is included into the middle east. It's mentioned in the section below additional bonus that will be label disputed territories.

I'm noticing a few bonuses have yet to be listed

The only ones not listed are Guinea Bissau, Ivory Coast, and Gold coast, and that's because I was thinking that they either only get the +1 and that it is not increased by holding the European power, OR that you ONLY get the +1 when you have the European power and that with out it they aren't worth anything.

Hmm... I kind of think to keep everything uniform and have it keep a bonus being held and a bonus with its metropole.

It just doesn't seem like a single territory should be +2 under any circumstance.

True... if anything then make it +1 with the metropole. You want to encourage the historic empires, right?

I do. We can always debate the merits of other ways once in game play as well.

Eh, unfortunately, you're not trying to impress me anymore, you're trying to impress MrBenn.

Your next step should be to figure out what to do about the seas. I think a four sea connections are in order. South Africa, West Africa, East Africa and Mediterranean. If four is too much for you, drop South Africa and let east and west connect. I mean, Britain has quick access to its colonies but the Imperial Italian Navy can not reach its colonies unless via land.

Well this isn't exactly what you were suggestion but here's another variation on the sea routes that add's another set of 1 way attacks to the Indian ocean coast.

It's better than nothing and it helps balance out the map imo.

What kind of file is this... I want to make more accurate regions but I really don't want to type them out. It might be better, if you were willing, to just send me the file, make the name changes and send it back.

Ok I've made some changes to how the Navies work. Not only can they be attacked by Any Colonial power OR SOUTH AFRICA they can attack any colonial power OR SOUTH AFRICA back. The can still 1 way assualt territories along the African coast as well. I think this will give the map a much greater mobility. Now, you can move from the far south to any European territory with in a couple moves. I think this will go a long way in keeping Europe from being monopolized by a single player since now you would have to defend every single Colonial power instead of just Germany Italy and France.

I made it so that single territory west African territories like Gold, and Ivory coast only reap a +1 bonus with the European power. With out that they aren't worth anything.

I'm also considering making all European powers +1 auto deploys. This would help it so that players don't have to waste all their troops defending their European claims.

To whom ever is in charge of advancing this map:

Could I please see some activity here? This was stickied and now it's not. I've made all the changes that IH had requested, and all those changes have been gameplay concerns any way. I really feel like this should be in gameplay at this point.

Thank you

The unstickyness is probably due to the restructuring of foundry - as you can see, there are no more stickies in the drafting room, at all...

Let's get this thing redded, I say it's been done concept-wise for a while.

One thing is the dashed stripes... they look pasted on, since the shading lines don't go over the dashes like they do on the other colours...
